EVENT DESCRIPTION
A Tribute to Jazz Rock Fusion of the 1970’s and Today
—–
A blend of great classics by Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham, Carlos Santana, Pat Metheny and other legends of the golden era of jazz/rock/fusion, plus new original music by members of Global Jazz Collegium.
—
Global Jazz Collegium is an assembly of local and international musicians founded by the Twin Cities based guitarist and composer Pavel Jany. While focusing on creating new original music, the group also honors the body of music created by Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorius, Billy Cobham, Carlos Santana, Pat Metheny and other legends of jazz/rock/fusion.
Global Jazz Collegium has released two albums and performed at the Selby Jazz Festival, Twin Cities Jazz Festival, MN State Fair and at many local jazz venues and concert series.
About the founder of Global Jazz Collegium:
Pavel Jany’s diversity and eclecticism in his guitar playing and composing have no boundaries, and his long musical journey encompasses many various styles. His classical guitar and compositional backgrounds were enriched by influences from East European Romani music of his native Czechoslovakia, to the works of jazz fusion guitarists Al Di Meola, Pat Metheny, Ralph Towner, Biréli Lagrène, and many Brazilian guitar masters. His three year stay in West Africa and his travels to Brazil and other South American countries deepened his interest in Afro-Brazilian and Latin music.
Pavel Jany has founded several international jazz projects on the Twin Cities’ music scene, including Brazilian jazz ensemble “Ticket To Brasil”, instrumental trio “Talking Strings”, and jazz/fusion group “Global Jazz Collegium”. He is a co-founder of Duo CORDA and he occasionally performs and records with other local and international artists.
