SUMMARY:Jake LaBotz
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe mission room at The Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:30pm\nMusic 8:00pm\n21+\nGA: $12 EARLY / $15 ADV / $20 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nJake LaBotz \n“Hair On Fire” Album Release \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us as Jake La Botz brings his world-wide tour to The Hook for the Twin Cities party celebrating the release of his new album Hair On Fire. \n \nBorn and raised in Chicago\, La Botz spent his early days studying under the last of the city’s pre-war era bluesmen. He began releasing his own albums of roots-drenched music in 2000 and would go on to spend the next two decades amassing a litany of critical acclaim as he worked his way up from playing street corners and tattoo parlors to sharing bills with luminaries like Ray Charles\, Etta James\, Dr. John\, and Mavis Staples. When he’s not on the road\, La Botz can be often be found onscreen (he’s appeared in everything from True Detective to On The Road and even starred in the stage musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County\, written by Stephen King and John Mellencamp) or teaching meditation in prisons\, Buddhist Centers\, and living rooms around the country. \n \nBalancing the wisdom and patience of two decades of Buddhist training with the grit and vigor of a rough and tumble Chicago upbringing\, Jake La Botz’s captivating new album\, Hair On Fire\, is at once unabashedly vintage and decidedly present. The writing is raw and direct\, cutting straight to the heart of things with honesty and urgency\, and the performances are similarly unvarnished\, fueled by lean\, spacious arrangements centered around La Botz’s well-worn vocals. Add it all up and you’ve got a spiritually enlightening dose of American roots-noir from a master of the craft\, an alternatingly dark and hopeful collection that wears its soul on its sleeve as it ruminates on compassion and vulnerability\, strength and surrender\, growth and redemption. \n \nOver the years\, Jake’s work has been praised by Rolling Stone\, World Cafe\, No Depression\, Folk Alley\, Atwood Magazine\, American Songwriter\, PopMatters\, Glide\, Bluegrass Situation\, and many more.\nhttps://www.jakelabotz.comhttps://www.facebook.com/jakelabotzfanpagehttps://twitter.com/reeljakelabotzhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxJvxE7SY4VjN-e-EZ7khww/videoshttps://www.instagram.com/jakelabotz/\n\n\n\n\n

Cindy herself has regrouped with a new band and recently released a smoking’ new EP.   https://www.facebook.com/cindy.lawson.545\n \nThe 99ers have been pumping out melodic punk/pop rock for over a decade. As well as playing live shows across and beyond the Twin Cities\, The 99ers have released five albums on Spinout Records. They love playing live because “punks just wanna have fun”. They have 3 rules as a band: KEEP IT SHORT !!  BANG IT OUT !!  NO MESSING ABOUT !!   https://www.facebook.com/The99ers\n \n \nFor the last 10 years\, The Silverteens have thrived by combining ’60s-influenced Garage Rock with their own hard-charging brand of Punk/Power Pop. The band members — mainstays on the local scene since the 1980s — include Terry Isachsen (Flamin’ Oh’s)\, Steve Olson (Laughing Stock)\, Jerry Johnson (MezzoFist)\, and Mark Engebretson (The Whole Lotta Loves). https://www.facebook.com/TheSilverteens\n\n\n\n \n\n\n

And if he’s not actively crafting new music\, he’s certainly thinking about it. “It’s a constant challenge to try to keep making better and better records\, write better and better songs. I still always feel like I’m a developing artist\,” he says. This may be a surprising sentiment from a man who’s won two Grammys\, released 34 full-length albums\, and taken home the Americana Music Association’s coveted Wagonmaster Award. But his forthcoming album Game Changer is convincing evidence that the North Carolina native is only continuing to hone his craft. \n \nOperating under his own label\, Sky Crunch Records\, for the first time since 2016\, Lauderdale recorded Game Changer at the renowned Blackbird Studios in Nashville\, co-producing the release with Jay Weaver and pulling from songs he’d written over the last several years. “There’s a mixture on this record of uplifting songs and\, at the same time\, songs of heartbreak and despair—because that’s part of life as well\,” he says. “In the country song world especially\, that’s always been part of it. That’s real life.” \n \nLauderdale would know: He’s been a vital part of the country music ecosystem since 1991\, when he released his debut album and began penning songs for an impressively long roster of country music greats. “When I was a teenager wanting to be a bluegrass banjo player\, I never would have imagined that I would get to work with people like Ralph Stanley and Robert Hunter and George Jones and Elvis Costello and John Oates\,” he muses. “Getting to work with them inspires me greatly to this day\, and I know it always will.” \n \nFrom rollicking guitar riffs on “That Kind of Life (That Kind of Day)” to the slow\, sweet harmonies of “I’ll Keep My Heart Open For You\,” Game Changer shows off Lauderdale’s ingenuity as a singer\, songwriter\, and producer—while reestablishing him as one of Americana’s most steadfast champions.  “Country music is constantly evolving\, but I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for steel guitar and a Telecaster\,” he says. “I have done my job on this record if people who love classic country feel like they can put it on\, or have it in their collection\, and it would fit right in.”\n \nRespecting the past doesn’t mean he’s not breaking new ground. “We’re All We’ve Got\,” a co-write with Mary Gauthier and Jaimee Harris\, offers a timely message about healing torn relationships at home and across the world. And “Friends Again\,” a grinning number about rekindling a friendship\, is fresh and forward-looking. At every turn\, Lauderdale’s collaborative spirit and genuine love for the creative process reveal themselves in thoughtful\, well-crafted songs sure to stand the test of time. “When everything works right\, it’s just magical to be able to hear them back\,” he says. “You feel\, at least for those three-and-a-half minutes\, like life makes sense.”\n\n\n\n \n\n\n

Sam Cassidy opens.\n \nLittle Fevers is an indie-pop group from Minneapolis made up of the remaining members of the folk pop orchestra Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles who in 2014\, traded their acoustic instruments for electric guitars and synthesizers. Reflecting their new sound\, they adopted a new name\, Little Fevers and released their debut record Field Trip\, which blended their electric indie sound with new wave influences. Field Trip was followed by their 7 inch Singles released in 2017 featuring Chris Koza (Rogue Valley) on  guitar.  Two years later\, Little Fevers enlisted guitarist Paul Puleo (Knife World and Southside Desire) and completed work on their second full length record Strangers. \n“This Minneapolis quartet could slot neatly in amongst a Mates of State record\, a Pavement full-length and Vampire Weekend’s first album.” – Noisey \n\n \nMinneapolis roots-rock songwriter Sam Cassidy is known for his spirited live shows that showcase his stirring vocals and deft guitar work. Named Best Acoustic Performer by City Pages in 2017\, Cassidy composes hard-luck ballads with a distinct Midwestern twang. He draws on the life of ordinary people as well as his own experiences to paint vivid pictures of struggle and joy\, hard work\, and taking it easy. Pulling on influences from classics like Springsteen and Petty\, as well as contemporaries like Laura Marling and Waxahatchee\, his songs explore the grey area between right and wrong and try to examine what brings people to do the things they do.  Backed by the most handsome band in Minneapolis- The All Night Canyons\, the live show is not to be missed.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n

Come out and riot with your local grrrl gang. \n \nSurly Grrly is a MPLS-based queercore protest band that likes to have fun while loudly fucking the patriarchy. Their live shows are filled with rage\, passion\, and politically-driven lyrics addressing bigotry\, queerness\, and misogyny. With a satisfyingly raw 80’s garage punk sound\, Surly Grrly uses catchy hooks and tempo changes to rile up a crowd\, mixing originals with a variety of bombastic covers. Vocalist Medbh McNamara and guitarist Eloïse Boigenzahn\, both multi-instrumentalists\, are joined by a rotating cast of band members on bass and drums (most recently\, bassist Lou Levy and drummer Kat Hansberry).RiGBY is a DIY punk band out of St.Paul\, MN. The 4 piece group got their start in April of 2019 and consists of Fay Dunkel(guitar)\, Kean Wilwerding (drums)\, Maude Lorr (Bass and vocals)\, and Hana Mahli (Bass and vocals). \nThe band is best defined by their loud\, stage shaking performance that combines riot grrl style screams and vocal harmonies. RiGBY blurs specific genre lines while leaving everything out on stage. \nThey recorded their debut album\, We’re Dying\, alongside Minnesota-based artist and producer\, Benny Cole. We’re Dying can be streamed anywhere you listen to music. \nRiotgrrrldarko is a 24-year-old self-announced Lady Rager. Born and raised in Minneapolis\, Minnesota\, Darko pushes boundaries bringing a fresh grunge and gritty sound with explicit lyrics to match. The artist proclaims the genre as Grime Core music; often consisting of frenetic trap drums and 808s combined with a hypnotic synth stab to create most instrumentals. Clever verses resolve undeniably catchy hooks\, putting a whole new spin on the classic ’90s “Riot Grrrl” movement. Riotgrrrldarko proves that women don’t always have to be perfect and poised to get the attention they deserve!

SUMMARY:Toby Lightman
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nTHE MISSION ROOM AT The Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:30pm \nMusic 8:00pm \n21+\n\nGeneral Seating: $25 (Limited & Available On First-Come First-Served Basis)\n\n\nStanding Room Only: $18 Advance  / $25  Day of Show\n \n \n\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nToby Lightman  \n“The whole project oozes spirituality\, if not outright womanly sensuality…” -BILLBOARD \n“Lightman’s dusky vocals and earthy\, groovy vibe invite comparisons to Joan Osborne and Sheryl Crow.” -USA TODAY \nIn a crowded social media driven marketplace\, Toby Lightman’s pure and soulful voice connects with listeners emotionally and cuts through the noise. People Magazine agrees\, stating that “Toby Lightman continues to shine a light on her knack for making rich\, soulful pop”. In the 15 years since signing with a major label\, Toby has developed and mastered her own sophisticated and unique urban pop sound.\nClassically trained on the violin and self-taught on the guitar\, Lightman was unaware of her vocal talent until high school. Her first solo appearance was singing Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” at her high school graduation to 2\,000 friends and family who were unaware that she harbored such talent. The overwhelming reaction from the crowd was what propelled her to buy a guitar and begin her journey as a recording artist. Lightman moved to New York City after graduating from the University of Wisconsin and signed a record deal with Jason Flom (Matchbox 20\, Lorde\, Jesse J)\, president of Lava Records with only 3 songs written.\n\nThrust into the spotlight\, her debut album Little Things appeared on the “Billboard Top 100” in its first week and gave way to comparisons to sultry songstresses like Lauryn Hill\, Sheryl Crow and Norah Jones. Darling to the normally-harsh critics\, Lightman received high praise from magazines like Rolling Stone\, People\, Billboard and others\, which led to appearances on Letterman\, Carson Daly\, Conan\, CBS Morning Show and more. Her second record\, Bird on a Wire (2006)\, helped lead Lightman to enormous success in the film and TV industry with the single “My Sweet Song” being featured in the movie PS I Love You\, starring Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler. She began and has continued to tour extensively\, both solo and sharing the bill with renowned artists such as Rob Thomas\, Jewel\, James Blunt\, Gavin DeGraw\, Train\, Marc Cohn\, and one special evening opening for the legendary Prince\, an artist that Toby grew up idolizing. Prince happened to be watching the night Toby appeared on Conanand was so impressed with her performance he invited her to open for him.\n\nSince breaking away from the politics and constraints of corporate record companies\, Lightman launched her independent record career with her self-released album\, Let Go\, in 2008. The title track was picked up by Home Shopping Network for use in the network’s marketing campaign\, with promos featuring the song airing on dozens of television channels for six months. She was then asked to sing the theme song and appear in the opening video for NASCAR on Fox\, as well as a string of other collaborations including a brief stint on Broadway. “Being an independent artist in today’s music business can be a scary and daunting thing” says Toby\, “but getting constant positive feedback that people are into what you’re doing inspires you and keeps you going. I’ve been lucky to get that feedback and it’s encouraged me to take more chances.” To that point\, Toby has enjoyed tremendous success licensing her music for placement in film and TV\, with credits including commercials for Microsoft and KMART\, as well as her songs placed on episodes of Desperate Housewives\, One Tree Hill\, Vampire Diaries\, 90210\, The Fosters\, and many more. \n\nToby’s newest album\, After All\, released November 2022 was produced entirely on her own\, playing many of the instruments as well. She was inspired to do this by the passing of one of her idols and direct mentors\, Prince. Toby’s first single “Spaces”\, is the first track that Toby has self-produced. “Spaces” is the beginning of a journey into a more personal time for Toby\, written about the desire to fill the space between one and one’s goals; whether that be a love\, a dream or just to stay strong in hard times and get to the other side. These songs represent and were inspired by Toby’s \nstruggle to get pregnant and journey into motherhood.\n\nToby Lightman’s story is still being told\, and she will be touring in support of new\, deeply personal music in the months and years to come.

Join The April Fools & special guests The Urge as they celebrate retirements & birthdays of band members & spouses.\n \n\nThe April Fools are a killer combo of Minneapolis and Dallas\, Tx. music scene veterans. Hot off the heels of the release of their highly-acclaimed album Wonderland\, they’ll take you on a journey of imagination\, heartbreak\, loss\, and pandemic voodoo with a blend of classic rock meets Americana – all delivered in a style unique unto themselves. \nCombining 90’s indie Rock\, 60’s psychedelic rock\, outlaw country and a sprinkling of jazz\, The April Fools create a mind-bending soundscape that defies easy classification. \n\nThe Urge (including current April Fool Terri Owens) was one of Eau Claire’s premier 70’s-80’s new wave/punk bands. In the early 1980’s they opened for The Ramones on their US tour. A recent reunion resulted in a sold out show and long lines of fans disappointed to be turned away. As one fan remarked\, “The Urge has more raw power than the ground water under Three Mile Island.”

Following full-bodied rock forebears Tom Petty\, George Harrison\, and Roy Orbison\, Erelli’s songwriting explores the unknown glories of this planet and love’s transformational power.  \n\nOver his two decade-long career\, the singer-songwriter-sideman-producer-writer has proven himself equally at home in a multitude of roles: producing albums for artists like GRAMMY-winner Lori McKenna; serving as a sideman guitarist for artists like Paula Cole\, Marc Cohn\, and Josh Ritter; writing and producing his own material\, like 2018’s “By Degrees\,” for which he was nominated for Song of the Year at the Americana Honors and Awards; and most recently\, becoming an advocate for low-vision artists and working with venues to make their spaces more accessible. Written in the wake of his diagnosis with a degenerative retinal disease\, Erelli’s upcoming 2023 album Lay Your Darkness Downis the next step on his journey\, following up on 2020’s Blindsided\, which garnered praise from Rolling Stone Country\,the Associated Press\, NPR\, The Boston Globe\, and more.\n \n  \n\nJeff Ray is an avant-garde resonator slide-guitarist and songwriter based in St Paul\, MN. His music is rooted in the traditions of acoustic blues and American fingerstyle guitar\, but Ray quickly departs from tradition: his songs integrate flavors of Indian classical music and West-African guitar under the guise of cryptic alternate guitar tunings.
