VIAL brings their genre-bending cascade of sound into electrifying live performances. Songs that smack you in the face: Rage-written speed runs about running over misogynists (“Roadkill”) are followed by a head bopping\, cheek-blushing queer love songs to tingle your toes (“Violet”); VIAL is powerhouse who knows how to adapt their sound\, and themselves\, allowing them to grow in new ways during 2020’s days of quarantine by creating a wide audience on TikTok and other social media while revving up to release their blossoming debut album\, LOUDMOUTH (2021). This record was highly-anticipated after the success of their debut EP\, “Grow Up\,” which hit streaming sites soon after the group’s formation in 2019. \n \nFollowing the release of LOUDMOUTH\, VIAL has made an explosive return to live music\, playing historic venues across Minnesota\, including First Avenue’s iconic main stage\, and have hit many of their favorite cities while touring with artists such as THICK\, Skating Polly\, and Jhariah. It’s not often that a band has their first tour after three years and two records released\, but VIAL is everything but your typical band.\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThank you to our sponsors\, partners\, & neighbors: \n\nSummit Brewing • DuNord Social Spirits • RKR Ganja Beverages • Nobool Presents • KFAI 90.3FM • Mpls.St.Paul Magazine • The Zen Arcade • Longfellow Rising • Lake Street Council • Minnesota State Arts Board • Moon Palace Books • Arbeiter Brewing\n\n \nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2025. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by Star Tribune readers.\n \nThe Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2025 season for our guests. Come hungry and enjoy dinner with the show!

Front man\, Clay Rose was raised between an outlaw\, truck-driving father in the mountains of Colorado and a country song-writing mama in the sticks outside of Nashville\, Tennessee. Clay’s penchant for open roads and trouble making are the backbone of the Gas Pops’ sound. The rest of the band consists of Don Ambory\, Scott Coulter\, “Bad” Brad Morse\, and Kevin Matthews who all come equipped with music degrees from Chicago\, Boston\, Jacksonville\, and Denver\, respectively. They each add flavors of their own background and heritage\, further diversifying the band’s signature sound.—-Clarence Tilton\, the Omaha-based band known for its sharp storytelling and harmonies to match announces the release of their latest album\, Queen of the Brawl. The record features collaborations with country icon Marty Stuart and Presley Tucker (bandmate and daughter of the legendary Tanya Tucker). It weaves together personal history\, road-worn experiences\, and a love of place into a collection of songs that “blends alt-country grit\, rich\, melodic hooks\, and evocative.” (The Country Note)—-Late-blooming Minnesota singer-songwriter Becky Kapell writes gritty\, no-nonsense songs that come from the crossroads of old-time rock and roll and country. Always walking the line between mischief and heartache\, her music doesn’t shy away from life’s truths and her own shortcomings\, and with over 50 years of life’s ups and downs\, she has plenty of material to draw from. Working with her all-star band The Fat 6\, Kapell has quickly become a fixture in the Twin Cities music scene\, sharing the stage with some of Americana’s biggest acts like Southern Culture on the Skids\, Rosie Flores\, Wayne Hancock and The Cactus Blossoms. Becky released her third album In It to Win It in 2022 which was recorded during the pandemic with partner and bandmate Paul Bergen. The album made several year-end favorite lists and mixes the raw grooves of Lucinda Williams\, the haunting sounds of Emmylou and the classic rock and roll feel of Nick Lowe.

The popular rock/garage group has been on semi-hiatus since member Jim McGuinn moved to Philadelphia for a job at WXPN-FM in 2022. Named after a phrase used in St. Paul when you meet someone new and discover a surprise connection – a mutual friend\, a past lover\, bandmate or neighbor – Saint Small refers to the way everyone and everything seems to be connected. The band surfs between songs that are serious\, and songs that will seriously make you laugh or smile (or cry\, laughing). \n \n\n \n\nThe best of classic guitar-driven rock in one small package\, Little Man (Chris Perricelli) has been described as a cross between George Harrison\, David Bowie\, T. Rex\, and Jack White\, with a familiar rock sound that is somehow all his own while being heavily inspired by spiritual and Zen themes. The Little Man live rock show is not to be missed.  Exuding with passion and a rock-star quality that pulls you into a performance with a classic rock\, psychedelic and garage rock feel that is uniquely their own.  \n \n\nThe unique fuzzpop sound of The Mood Swings developed when guitarist/songwriter Ashley Ackerson joined forces with kindred spirit Sallie Watson in the early 2000s and started cutting some 4-track demos. A little punk here\, a little 60s garage there\, a lot of attitude everywhere – The Mood Swings sound melded all these ingredients into hard hitting tunes prickly with pop hooks\, sharp-witted lyrics and searing guitars. The Mood Swings released three ace albums\, all produced by the late\, great Ed Ackerson. These albums featured catchy tunes with an edge and a bit of psychedelic mayhem thrown in.

Simpson’s raspy\, dynamic voice is larger than life — but not as large as her uncontainable energy that radiates from the stage.” – Colleen Cowie (Minneapolis Public Radio) \n—\nMae Simpson is known for their high energy and stage presence that speaks for itself. Tight horn and Rhythm section set the tone\, immediately pulling fans to  engage. The band includes Jorgen Wadkins on guitar\,  David Kellerman on bass\, drummer and background vocalist Aaron Silverstein\, and trumpeter Paul Pederson. In 2023 they released Chandelier & Bloom.\n \nFeed the Dog is an eclectic and action-packed\, experimental jam-grass act. The midwest based 4-piece masterfully blends soul-pleasing songwriting rich in imagery and storytelling with a genre bending\, shake-your-hips\, instrumental flair. Krewe Du Nord is about bringing people from across the metro area together in South Minneapolis to celebrate the rebirth of Lake Street.” \nWhether you live here or far away—everyone’s welcome.\n—\nThe Soul Rebels \nBrass sensation The Soul Rebelsstarted with an idea-to expand upon the pop music they loved on the radio and the New Orleans brass tradition they grew up on. They took that tradition and blended funk and soul with elements of hip hop\, jazz and rock all within the style of a modernized and contemporary brass band. \nThe Soul Rebels built a career around an eclectic live show that harnesses the power of horns and drums in a party-like atmosphere. The eight-member collective frequently appear on major record label releases with star artists including Sony Music artist G-Eazy’s single ‘When You’re Gone” featuring Lil Wayne\, Def Jam artist Dave East and Nas’“Godfather 4”\, Big Freedia and Icona Pop’s“Pipe That” and Warner Music Group artist Phony Ppl’s new album. The Man\, Robert Glasper\, Pretty Lights\, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis\, Matisyahu and most notably their new supergroup with the legendary Wu Tang Clan. \nThe Soul Rebels continue to chart new territory and are respected for their ability to combine top notch musicianship with songs that celebrate peace\, love and soul. \n— \n \n\nSt. Paul and The Minneapolis Funk All Stars\nOne of the best musicians to emerge from the Twin Cities\, St. Paul (Paul Peterson) appeared in Purple Rain as a teenage wunderkind\, playing keys with The Time on hits like “Jungle Love” and “The Bird.” He was hand-picked by Prince himself to be lead singer of The Family (best known for “Nothing Compares 2 U”) on Prince’s Paisley Park label. \nIn the tradition of Motown’s Funk Brothers\, St. Paul has assembled the who’s who crew of the Minneapolis Sound with St. Paul & The Minneapolis Funk All Stars\, showcasing those who wrote\, produced\, performed\, or sung on some of the biggest hits from the heyday of electro funk-rock in the Twin Cities. \nThe All-stars can include*: \n\nJellybean Johnson – Drummer for The Time and The Family.\nDr. Fink – Keyboardist for Prince and the Revolution.\nKirk Johnson – Drummer for Prince and the NPG.\nElisa Fiorillo – Singer for Prince and the NPG.\nOliver Leiber – Producer of Paula Abdul and guitarist with Tamara and The Seen.\nJason Peterson DeLaire – Keys and saxophone with Solo and Carmen Electra.\nHorn Heads – Horn section for Prince.\n\n \n\nBrass Solidarity\nBrass Solidarity is a band founded in 2021 in response to the murder of George Floyd and the ongoing fight in the movement for Black lives.
