Jay Ernest\, the driving force propelling Minneapolis-based Church of Cash\, has both in spades. With his bandmates\, Ernest brings the iconic Man in Black to life every time he takes the concert platform\n \nThe award-winning Church of Cash is a premier Johnny Cash tribute show band with the attitude and the chops. In 2019\, Church of Cash received “Best Tribute Act 2019” honors from the Midwest Country Music Organization. In 2021\, Jay Ernest and by extension the Church of Cash\, was inducted to the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame.  \nSince forming in 2009 in Honolulu\, Hawaii\, Church of Cash has steadily forged a reputation for excellence. The band\, which relocated to Minneapolis a year later\, made it clear early on that channeling Johnny Cash was anything but a vehicle to gain instant notoriety. Cash\, choirs\, and rock ‘n’ roll reign supreme. So\, when Jay Ernest steps in front of a microphone he embodies the true artistic spirit of the man he reveres. \n\nThe Church of Cash is true to the music of Johnny Cash\, and singer Jay’s deep baritone voice sings like a prairie breeze and stomps like a boot heel. Church of Cash is not a country band. Church of Cash is a tribute band with the express purpose of honoring the indelible legacy of Johnny Cash. Road-tested and always road-ready\, The Church of Cash is celebrating the soul of American music.\n \nWhether you are an ‘ol timer that grew up listening to Mr. Cash in your tractor or a young soldier driving your tank across the deserts of the Middle East with the Man in Black in your headphones\, the Church of Cash will bring his music\, with style and energy to fans everywhere.\n \nWhat the Church of Cash has that no one else can match is their loyalty to the song and the message that Johnny left to all of us. The band merely keeps this word alive with a youthful spirit that has entertained audiences completely.\n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n\nSaint Paul-based Mary Cutrufello has been hailed as a Texas honky-tonk heroine and a fiery Midwestern heartland rocker.  Connecticut-raised and Yale-educated\, Mary Cutrufello spent the 1990’s in Texas\, where her hard-driving honky-tonk style won her a loyal following\, as well as kudos from the local media and such Texas legends as Willie Nelson\, Billy Joe Shaver\, Joe Ely.  She also made 2 appearances on “Austin City Limits”\, a spot on “The Tonight Show”\, and toured with the Allman Brothers and Gov’t Mule\, among others.  \n—–The Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2023. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by StarTribune readers.—–The Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2023 season for our guests.Come hungry and enjoy dinner with the show!\n

Come spend a summer evening with the Twin Cities second best musical tribute to Jeff Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra! \nELnO has a fever! And the only prescription is\, yep\, you guessed it…MORE COWBELL! But wait\, ELnO only has five cowbells. Where do you go from there? BRING YOUR OWN COWBELL night! That’s where! \n\nFor only the second time in ELnO’s rich history\, we’re actually doing it! BYOC made its maiden voyage several years ago in the old Lee’s days and everything went exactly as planned. Well\, OK. In truth\, it was a bit of a sh*t show. But it sure was fun! And pretty hilarious! The rules are simple: \n\n1.       Bring a cowbell. Preferably one meant for percussive use and not for hanging around a cow’s neck. But bring whatever you got.\n2.       Play on the downbeats. No salsa beats\, Tito Puente.\n3.       Don’t play cowbell on Telephone Line. Or any ballad for that matter. Just watch Jeff Lynne #1 for guidance. \n\nIt’s that easy! We’ve cooked up a particularly cowbell-centric set full of all the Electric Light Orchestra bangers as well as a few other cowbell classics. There might even be a special cowbell intense medley specially prepared just for this event! \n\nOf course\, you don’t HAVE to bring a cowbell. But it would be a lot cooler if you did! So\, break out your fanciest pair of jorts and join us Under the Canopy at The Hook and Ladder Theater for this twice in a lifetime event! Ya gotta have more cowbell!\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n—–The Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2023. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by StarTribune readers.—–The Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2023 season for our guests.Come hungry and enjoy dinner with the show!\n

To create their distinctive sound\, the band “turns” to the distant past of early American recorded music\, “turns” again to that renaissance of the 1960s and 1970s\, and finally “turns” again to the present looking forward.  Even though Turn Turn Turn was born as a cover band\, the group’s original material – sweetheart alt-country folk-pop – quickly stole the spotlight.\n \nTurn Turn Turn’s Laurel Canyon meets 70’s-Nashville-cosmic soul vibe is layered with three-part harmonies that stitch the band’s musical tapestry together. Members Adam Levy (guitars\, vocals)\, Savannah Smith (guitar\, vocals) and Barb Brynstad (bass\, vocals) are all mainstays of the Minnesota music scene and together craft an infectious\, pop-infused Americana. They each have a distinct voice\, and the combination – a “fourth voice” – is greater than the sum of its parts.\n\nAdam Levy is a veteran of the Minnesota rock scene\, best known for leading up the alt-rock band The Honeydogs. As a prolific songwriter and producer\, he has worked across many genres and performed worldwide. Besides writing\, recording\, and performing music\, Adam is a social activist and educator\, teaching high school students social studies and songwriting.\n \nSavannah Smith has worked with such acts as Trampled by Turtles\, William Elliot Whitmore and Laura Stevenson. In 2019\, Savannah released her debut full-length album\, Leo. The follow-up to her EP Leaving Eau Claire\, it was written in a house built by her great-grandfather and was recorded and produced Minneapolis’ Brett Bullion (Low\, Halloween Alaska\, Bad Bad Hats).\n \nBarb Brynstad is an in-demand musician with decades-long roots in the Twin Cities music community. As a singer\, bassist and guitarist\, she has performed with a variety of musicians\, including Chastity Brown\, Tina Schlieske\, and the late-great Willie Murphy. She has also performed with comedian Lizz Winstead (The Daily Show) and contributes her musical talents to a variety of theater and dance projects.\n \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAKjo4WVT1E&t=87s \n\nThe Scarlet Goodbye\, labelled “the most unlikely mash-up in Minnesota Music History”\, is the creative combination of Daniel Murphy and Jeff Arundel.\n \nDaniel D. Murphy was a critical element in the formation of two favorite bands\, Soul Asylum and Golden Smog\, sharing the stage with fellow hitmakers Dave Pirner\, Gary Louris\, and Jeff Tweedy.  After a career at the top\, including the GRAMMY for “Runaway Train” and sharing the biggest stages around the world\, Danny decided he was ready to leave the road\, and\, in 2012\, stepped aside.  \n\nA chance meeting at a 2019 holiday party with Minnesota yacht-rocker Jeff Arundel was the bait. Arundel had released 8 records of original songs\, toured extensively\, and was also active as a producer of various artists including Bryan White\, Keri Noble\, Billy McLaughlin\, and Adrianne Lenker. And\, the most unlikely mash-up in Minnesota music history was formed and off to the races.\n \nWith the first collaboration\, “Paris”\, they realized that they were onto something\, as Murphy shoved Arundel into a swagger\, and Arundel tip-toed Murphy onto revealing some vulnerabilities. Meeting in an attic studio during the Pandemic\, Murphy and Arundel fashioned a collection of songs that producer John Fields\, who was brought in to mix the record\, calls “both timeless and unique\, part Rolling Stones and part Townes Van Zandt”.\n \nIn 2022\, The Scarlet Goodbye released three singles and a video to critical acclaim\, and has performed on stages large and small\, bracing for the 2023 release of their full-length record “Hope’s Eternal”\, on Ingrooves/Universal\, via Nashville’s The Label Group.\n \n \n\n—–The Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2023. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by StarTribune readers.—–The Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2023 season for our guests.Come hungry and enjoy dinner with the show!\n
