Originally based in Halifax\, Nova Scotia\, the band enjoyed international success in the 1970s and 1980s\, releasing more than 20 albums since 1971. \n \nApril Wine’s extensive discography includes numerous gold and platinum selling albums featuring mega-hits like ‘Roller’\, ‘I Like to Rock’\, ‘You Could Have Been a Lady’ and others. Best known for their international top 40 hit ‘Just Between You And Me’\, an iconic power ballad that made them the very first Canadian band on MTV\, April Wine went on to release over twenty albums and have received a combined total of 11 Juno Award nominations in the Group Of the Year\, Album of the Year\, and Best Selling Single categories.  \n \nIn 2009\, April Wine was inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and were honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for being part of Canadian Music History for 40 years\, and in 2010 the band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.   \n———– \nIt all began in 1974 when Derek St. Holmes’ band Scott opened a gig for Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes. Nugent was making a name for himself around the Midwestern portion of the United States\, but thus far had been unable to take his music to the next level.  After seeing\, and hearing\, the young St. Holmes on stage\, he knew what was missing and invited Derek to join his band. Derek brought a strong set of pipes\, solid musicianship and songwriting skills to Nugent’s music\, and in March of 1975 the world was introduced to him via Nugent’s self-titled debut album.  While it was Nugent slinging down the guitar licks\, it was Derek’s voice all over FM radio singing the soon to be classics “Stranglehold\,” “Stormtroopin” and “Just What the Doctor Ordered.” In addition\, Derek wrote\, arranged and sang the classic tune “Hey Baby.” Derek quickly became regarded as one of the best voices on the international rock scene\, all at the tender age of 22 years old.  Nugent and St. Holmes continued their winning combination for three more iconic albums\, Free for All in 1976\, Cat Scratch Fever in 1977 and Double Live Gonzo in 1978.. Derek also continued his on again/off again relationship with Nugent in both the 1980s\, and ‘90s\, co-writing several songs on Ted’s comeback album Spirit of Wild in 1996. \nAfter years of Nugent fans begging Ted for Derek’s return\, St. Holmes was invited by the Motor City Madman in 2011 to once again take his place on the Nugent stage. Derek appeared on Nugent’s 2014 album ShutUp&Jam\, singing. Derek continues to be Nugent’s lead singer on many tours. \n \nFor questions\, email us at medina@medinaentertainment.com or call us at 763-478-6661.Ticket price does not include a facility fee\, sales tax or service fees. All dates\, prices\, times and bands are subject to change.

SUMMARY:The Dollyrots :: The Sugar in the Gas Tank Tour 2025
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nJames Ballentine “Uptown” VFW Post 246 \n\nDoors 8:00pm :: Music 8:30pm :: 21+\nGA: $20 ADV (Box-Office)\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\nTHE SUGAR INTHE GAS TANK TOUR 2025 \n\nThe Dollyrots\nFor over 20 years\, The Dollyrots have been a shining example of how to mix raw punk energy with catchy\, bubblegum melodies\, all while living life entirely on their terms. Fronted by bassist and vocalist Kelly Ogden and guitarist Luis Cabezas\, this power duo has built a legacy of anthemic tunes\, relentless touring\, and an unwavering DIY ethos. But what sets them apart isn’t just their music—it’s their ability to balance the chaos of punk rock with raising kids that are now old enough to take the stage on their own. \nThe band has released eight studio albums and played over two thousand shows since their 2004 debut on legendary punk label Lookout! Records. The next two albums came out through Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records\, followed by several DIY\, fan-funded releases and a current alliance with Wicket Cool Records. Long a staple in rotation on Sirius/XM’s Little Steven’s Underground Garage\, the band’s consistent output perked up the ears of Wicked Cool founder Stevie Van Zandt. “Their songwriting has reached a consistent level of greatness\,” he says. \nThe Dollyrots’ sound stays rooted in the sharp hooks of classic pop punk. Growing up together in Florida\, followed by a decade-long stint in Los Angeles\, the band emerged from the L.A. punk scene with a style that blends humor\, heart\, and high-energy. Their anthem “Because I’m Awesome” has enjoyed over 2.6 million streams on Spotify while becoming a rallying cry for sarcastic self-confidence. Whether they’re singing about awkward crushes or the everyday chaos of life\, their songs always deliver a sense of fun and relatability\, reminding listeners not to take life—or themselves—too seriously. \nThe band is no stranger to success\, hitting the Billboard Heatseekers and Independent Albums charts several times and featured in movies and TV shows including “Nimona”\, “Billions”\, “The Price Is Right” along with classics such as “Easy A” and “CSI:NY”. Their most recent album\, Night Owls\, is co-Produced by longtime collaborator John Fields (Jimmy Eat World\, All Time Low\, Meet Me At the Altar) and features multiple tracks receiving heavy rotation on Sirius/XM and featured on NPRs New Music Friday and Spotify’s New In Punk Playlists\, along with many more. \nKelly and Luis aren’t just bandmates; they’re life partners who’ve taken their shared love of music and turned it into a family affair. Their two kids\, River and Daisy\, have grown up on the road\, trading playgrounds for green rooms and bedtime stories for soundchecks. Instead of seeing family life as a limitation\, Kelly and Luis have woven it into the fabric of their music and lifestyle. Their kids often make mid-show cameos on stage and can sometimes be spotted at the merch table helping fans pick out t-shirts\, or popping up in behind-the-scenes tour videos. The family vibe is infectious\, making Dollyrots shows feel less like a concert and more like a reunion with your fun\, rock n roll cousins. \nThis unconventional lifestyle has added a unique layer to The Dollyrots’ identity. They’ve become a symbol of what it means to balance ambition and creativity with family life. Their fans—many of whom are now parents themselves—find inspiration in how Kelly and Luis have stayed true to their punk roots while embracing parenthood with open arms. \nThe band’s influence has also extended to the radio\, where Kelly has held down the position of morning show DJ since 2019 on Sirius/XM Channel 21 The Underground Garage. The Kelly Ogden Program plays the best of garage\, punk\, and rock\, airing every weekday morning with a bonus Friday night show. She can also be heard on their sister station Sirius 721\, and shares a side project with Bowling For Soup frontman Jaret Reddick called Jaret and Kelly. \nAlways active on the live circuit\, the band is gearing up for extensive 2025 tour plans including both U.S. and overseas runs. This will coincide with a new release coming in the Spring just on the heels of deluxe vinyl reissues of their seminal LPs “Eat My Heart Out” and “Barefoot & Pregnant” in February through Wicked Cool/The Orchard. \nThough their lives have evolved\, The Dollyrots’ music remains as vibrant and youthful as ever. Their DIY approach has also allowed them to stay connected to their audience and build a loyal community that feels more like an extended family. Their fans have watched them grow from scrappy up-and-comers to seasoned musicians and parents\, and that connection makes their music hit even harder. They show that you don’t have to give up your passions or your identity to raise a family and prove that punk rock isn’t just about rebellion—it’s about creating your own path and sticking to it\, no matter what. With a little bubblegum and mischief on the side.—Cindy Lawson began her rock and roll career in Minneapolis in 1985 with her all-female rock band\, The Clams. Over the years\, she has played in several bands in Minneapolis and New York City. Currently she’s backed by longtime collaborator and inventive guitarist Jerry Lefkowitz (of The Young Nashvillians\, Something Fierce\, Whoops Kitty\, and Fauna\, among others)\, bassist and multi-instrumentalist Dave Randall\, whose rock bonafides include The Spectors\, The Boot R&B\, The Silent Treatment\, Kinda Kinky\, and many more\, and on the drums is Mark Devaraj\, who’s kept the beat going in bands High on Stress\, Whiskey Rock and Roll Club\, The Heavy Sixers\, as well as dozens of other Minneapolis bands.—Cheap Bouquet has hit the ground running in Minneapolis and aren’t looking back. The trio is carving out a new path in the pop punk scene\, through unapologetic authenticity and drawing influence from icons across the rock and alternative spectrum. Fronted by long time listener\, first time frontman Sam Awad\, with Twin City scene vets Chelsea Oxborough and Brandon Evilla on guitars\, Cheap Bouquet is the amalgamation of a broad range of individual experience. The band has found their footing with a dynamic sound\, candid storytelling\, and\, more than anything else\, a genuine joy to be sharing their music.—DJ WRRC is the Whiskey Rock ‘n’ Roll Club MPLS playing the most prime selections before\, between and after bands.—Doors at 8pm\, Bands at 8:30\, 9:30\, 10:30 \n\nBOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available at Uptown VFW Box-Office (Open During Shows) & The Zen Arcade (Open During Hours of Operation.) Forming in 2000\, the Chicago natives achieved nationwide attention with their first two label-backed records\, 2006’s Knuckles Up and 2007’s Jungle of the Midwest Sea. These releases built on a heavy dose of previously established regional notoriety\, helping the band gain steam early on.—Something To Do is a long running\, great smelling rock & roll & ska band from Milwaukee\, WI! \nFounded in the cold-ass Minnesota winter of 2017\, Loss leader is the new project from three working-class dudes from Minneapolis\, MN; Tim Schumann (guitar/vocals)\, Andy Slater (drums)\, and Brandon Stein (bass). With deep roots in the Minneapolis and broader Midwest punk and indie scenes (former The Damn Choir\, Mpls Henrys\, Mad Dogs of Glory\, current The Jeffertons) Loss Leaders’ brand of earnest\, hard charging\, melodic midwest punk has earned them a dedicated and steadily growing fan base in Minneapolis and the region. \n—Formed in summer 2003\, the Virgin Whores are a punk rock band based out of the twin cities. Soxxx (lead vox)\, Tyler Bourbon (bass)\, Darnell Jenkins (rhythm guitar)\, Boogie (lead guitar)\, Rye (drums). \n— \nBOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available in The Zen Arcade During Hours of Operation. Releasing their first couple of efforts ‘True Burden’ and ‘Palm/Acquired Taste’ they aimed to make their sonic stamp on the post-punk genre\, but it was with the full-length debut ‘Underneath\, Beside Me’ where they truly held the subject of dreamy post-punk with an unrecognizable face. Building off the block of anticipation and maturation they released their second full-length titled ‘HEEL TURN’ in spring of 2024; an album that displayed elevation of differences and new possibilities\, not only through the group’s signature gloomy sound\, but through the world they were birthed into. Lesser Care is crafted by hands that bring some of the most energetic and emotional songwriting of this generation.\n—\nBOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available in The Zen Arcade During Hours of Operation. All tickets purchased will be honored on the new date. ***\nAn Evening with Shannon McNally\nGrammy nominee Shannon McNally’s live music career began on the jam band circuit of the 1990s with bands like Derek Trucks and Railroad Earth. Since then\, her catalog has grown to span the whole of the Americana music spectrum\, both writing original songs as well as interpreting the songs of others. She brings a soul-stirring musicality to her craft. Her honest and\, at times\, elegant voice immediately grabs one by the heartstrings. Not to mention as it turns out\, she is also an exceptional electric guitar player.\n \nMcNally has fourteen albums to her name and a string of single self-releases on her personal label\, Queen Maeve Records. Her latest album\, “Live At Dee’s\,” is a career retrospective song list captured over four nights in September of 2022 with a revolving band of Nashville musicians. Showcasing McNally’s wonderful storytelling and sense of wry humor\, the 18-song disc captures her at her most relaxed in her natural habitat of neighborhood Honky Tonk. \n \nFor those who have followed McNally’s twenty-plus-year career\, the thing that sticks with listeners the most about her is the timeless effortlessness she brings to all she does. With an impressive catalog and extensive list of collaborators with whom she has written\, recorded\, and toured; McNally continues to turn out great music across wide-flung ends of the spectrum\, defying genre-fication. At home on any stage\, from Lincoln Center to the juke joints of Mississippi—she always brings the house down.

Orchestra \n\nOnce again Hook and Ladder Theater welcomes listeners and dancers to revel in the sounds of the Jazz Age! Year four of the festival kicks off with Davenport’s most famous son\, Bix Beiderbecke\, the cornetist whose genius continues to influence jazz musicians nearly a century after his death. You’ll also indulge in the hothouse music of Lee Wiley’s Cole Porter songbook. In the late 1930s\, she became the first singer to make records of all one composer. And finally\, a septet bringing you the rollicking small band sounds of Duke Ellington’s first two decades on the scene. —Southside Aces Your magnanimous Jazz Age Rumpus hosts\, Southside Aces\, are a Twin Cities institution. They’ve been performing the music of Jazz Age greats such as Louis Armstrong\, Duke Ellington\, and Fats Waller\, just to name a few\, since 2003. They’ve played for clubs\, dancers\, and festivals in the Twin Cities and throughout the midwest\, including the 50th Anniversary Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Festival in the summer of 2021. They’ve released eight albums of jazz including 2022’s Minneapolis Bump\, featuring all originals in the traditional style. \n“Some 1500 miles from New Orleans and the Mardi Gras\, and what do you think? It’s bouncing around the Mississippi River up here close to the Northern Star.” Leigh Kamman—The Jazz Image  —Maud Hixson and her Town Talkers Hailed as “gently virtuosic” (All About Jazz)\, Maud Hixson is a devoted exponent of great songs\, ranging from the classic Great American Songbook to the often unsung or forgotten compositions awaiting rediscovery. Based in Saint Paul\, Minnesota\, Maud teamed with Sir Richard Rodney Bennett in 2012 for the long-running Midtown Jazz at Midday concert series at Saint Peter’s in New York City\, and debuted her show\, Skyscraper Wits\, in London and New York in 2015. She has made three appearances at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall for the New York Cabaret Convention\, presented by the Mabel Mercer Foundation. Her newest recording is devoted to the music of her mentor\, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett\, which earned a 2024 Bistro Award. Pianist Rick Carlson is the instigator of the Town Talkers accompaniment in presenting the Lee Wiley Cole Porter songbook. —Tony Balluff and The Four A.M. The band is led by clarinetist Tony Balluff\, with the piano bench occupied by the inimitable Rick Carlson. The rest of the Four A.M. Orchestra: Dan Eikmeier—trumpet Eric Johnson—trombone Brad Holden—alto saxophone Dave Michael—drums Steve Pikal—string bass.—Rick Carlson taught himself to play the piano by studying the vast works of Count Basie and Duke Ellington and capitalizing on a long string of happy accidents. Singing or performing on-stage and in the studio at an early age\, she became disenchanted at the thought of a musical career during high school. Shunning music\, she decided to study drama at Montreal’s Concordia University instead.\n \n\nSoon after starting her studies\, however\, she began composing her own material and performing in clubs and coffeehouses around Montreal. She also began touring with her older brother\, Rufus Wainwright\, as a backing vocalist and musician. Moving from Montreal to New York\, Martha was cast in a stage musical called Largo.  She also released a self-titled EP\, as well as a four-song EP. In February 2005\, Wainwright issued another EP called Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole (said to be inspired by her sometimes rocky relationship with her dad)\, followed by the self-titled Martha Wainwright\, her full-length debut album. \nMartha Wainwright’s role as an artist has always been to embrace her wildness and sketch out her raw depth. This edge is what makes Wainwright uncompromisingly herself and continues to draw in an audience two decades on. \n \nOver a career that spans three decades\, Brad Barr has cultivated a uniquely visceral\, disarmingly intimate approach to the guitar. If you’re already a fan of the Montreal-based Barr Brothers\, or the legendary improv-rock trio The Slip\, then you already know — it’s futile to try and categorize his ongoing experiments in sound and songwriting.\n \nHis musical journeys\, almost always in lockstep with sibling drummer Andrew Barr\, have taken them on chimerical paths: from all-night sets at jam festivals to the main stages of Newport Folk and Montreal Jazz; from tightly focused avant-rock collaborations to atmospheric reverb-laced folk ballads. Starting in the mid-90s\, their trio The Slip built a global cult following for their wide-ranging compositions and deeply improvisational sets.\n \nWhen the two brothers moved to Montreal in 2005\, they started a new chapter with experimental harpist Sarah Pagé and formed the Barr Brothers. The ensuing three albums have each been nominated for a Juno award\, and they have shared the bill with such artists as My Morning Jacket\, Calexico\, Bela Fleck\, The War on Drugs\, Tinariwen\, Built to Spill\, The Prodigy\, Emmylou Harris\, and others.\n.— \n\n\n\nBOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available in The Zen Arcade During Hours of Operation.
