SUMMARY:The Way Down Wanderers with Cassandra Cole
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:30pm :: Music 8:00pm \n\n21+ \n\nGENERAL ADMISSION $12 ADV / $15 DOS \n\n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nNobool Presents \nThe Way Down Wanderers\nwith Cassandra Cole\n—- \n\nThe Way Down Wanderers are often referred to by fans as one of the hardest-working\, hardest-touring bands on the circuit today\, the 5-piece Illinois-based act not only proves that classification with their jam-packed tour schedule but also on stage every night\, with youthful exuberance and a lively stage show\, as reliable as it is infectious. High energy percussion\, mandolin\, guitar\, bass\, banjo and fiddle weave seamlessly together to create an experience for fans that has sold out shows across the UK and the United States\, filling the front rows with fans not just singing along to one tune\, but singing along to all of them. “Everybody says it. We’d be nothing without our supporters. Yeah\, they buy tickets and of course we love that\, but when we’ve been on the road for 10 hours and walk onto a stage road weary and we see familiar faces singing along\, it’s hard to describe. It’s everything\, really. There’s a whole lot of love there.”\n \nMusic enthusiasts are not the only ones taking note. Critics and tastemakers alike have awarded the young artists an impressive number of accolades ranging from official showcases at AmericanaFest (2018) and International Bluegrass Music Association (2016) to Whitstable UK Session of the Year (2017)\, a BBC Scotland Session (2017) as well as Finalist\, International Song Writing Competition (2015 & 2016)\, Chicago’s Best Emerging Artist\, Deli Magazine (2014) and Songpickr’s Best Songs Spotify Playlist (2016) among others. The young men are no strangers to the festival circuit either\, having played major National and Regional Festivals such as Merlefest\, Summer Camp\, Red Wing Roots Music Festival and Saskatchewan Jazz Fest all across the United States\, Canada and the UK. The band has also graced the stage of coveted venues such as Bluegrass Underground (TN)\, The Fox Theater (CO)\, Park West (IL)\, The Vogue (IN) The Station Inn (TN) The Gramercy Theater (NYC)\, and countless others.\n

SUMMARY:IV and The Strange Band | Possessed By Paul James | Fire & Pine
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nUptown vfw \n\nDoors 7:30pm\nMusic 8:00pm\n21+\nGA: $15 ADV / $20 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n\nIV and The Strange Band | Possessed By Paul James | Fire & Pine\n\n \n\nAs the great-grandson of Hank Williams Sr.\, grandson of Hank Williams Jr.\, and only son of Hank 3\, Coleman Williams spent years waging an internal battle with the expectations thrust upon him by his own lineage. He represented the fourth generation of country music’s most legendary family — hence his nickname\, “IV” — and the pressure to launch his own career was enormous. Although Coleman would eventually make his mark with Southern Circus — the genre-bending debut from his band\, IV and The Strange Band\, combining southern storytelling and country textures with 100-watt guitar amps and DIY attitude — he needed to break free first and discover his own musical approach along the way. Southern Circus is his homecoming: an album that finds him not falling into a legacy\, but earning it. \nKonrad Wert is a man of many voices. As a special education teacher\, he is articulate and intentional. As an advocate for justice in education\, he is passionate. But as an artist and musician\, better known by his stage name Possessed By Paul James\, his voice is expressive\, holding rest and action in tandem. In truth\, “Paul James” is a fiction\, a combination of the names of Wert’s father and grandfather. Those who have seen him perform\, however\, would agree he seems possessed by something. Wert has still been able to release 5 full length albums\, two of which topped Bluegrass Billboard charts in 2013 & 2020. Possessed by Paul James’s upcoming 6th album\, titled Fighting For Our Own Survival\, set to release “sooner than later”. \nPine & Fire is a D.I.Y. folk music duo from the north woods of Minnesota. They blend traditional roots music influences with a modern punk sentiment\, creating a unique and driving sound. Together they sing original songs woven with themes of love\, escapism\, home\, and growth.

Multiple artists. Get tickets NOW! Presented by ‘The Hook\, MSP Sound\, and KFAI.org.—Atim Opoka (They/She) is a Ugandan-American songwriter\, vocalist\, composer\, producer\, and teaching artist who fuses Afro-pop and alternative beats while embracing the power of transformative storytelling. \nJillian Rae is a fiercely unique spirit— a singer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist who cares more about making authentic music than about fitting into a tidy box. A classically trained violinist\, she has become a commanding international presence\, heading up her own critically acclaimed rock/pop band and creating powerful\, genre-bending songs. She also performs regularly with her traditional folk band Corpse Reviver and has toured extensively\, backing up Grammy-winning acts like The Okee Dokee Brothers. Lauded as a “triple threat on vocals\, fiddle\, and composition” (Star Tribune)\, Jillian Rae has become known for her soaring pop orchestrations and is an in-demand producer and session player. Along with her partner/co-producer Eric Martin\, she runs a home studio in Minneapolis. During the pandemic\, the studio became the hub for her weekly livestream performances and a space for her to write and record tracks for her next album. Never one to back down or give up\, Rae is a natural-born performer who has always found a way to make music. \nMAYDA“Her R&B-infused pop is undeniably fresh\, as she swings between pared-down acoustic struts\, full-band funkadelic blasts\, and electronic drumbeats and synth flourishes that would make the Purple One proud…. this prolific young soul singer is just beginning her journey\, but it’s hard not to anticipate big things from the petite yet larger-than-life pop songstress.” -Andrea Swensson \nMayda’s music has been featured locally as well as internationally. Numerous of Mayda’s songs have been on Rachael Ray show\, Good Morning America\, KFC youtube\, Reebok Seoul commercials\, Jersey Shore\, and cable networks such as Showtime and MTV. \nNasimiyu: One-woman-band\, Nasimiyu\, embodies black girl magic. Her rich and uplifting production style is genre-fluid\, but when asked to be more specific she’ll tell you that her sonic palette is a mix of organic\, eclectic\, ethnic\, and worldly. That it draws from the ancestral. Having been a member of widely varied music projects in New York and New Orleans\, from fronting trap-pop duo Baeb Rxxth on vocals and keys\, to touring as drummer for the experimental Kalbells and punk trio Sharkmuffin\, to working as a teaching artist for Carnegie Hall\, Nasimiyu has saved her most personal deep dives for her solo work. \nLaura Hugo is an Indigenous singer/songwriter from Teec Nos Pos\, AZ located in the Navajo Nation. She moved to Minnesota in 2010 to pursue her music and has since played all over the Twin Cities and around the Midwest. She has used her experiences with grief\, mental health and general confusion about her place in the world to write honest and relatable songs.

They have released eight studio albums and are currently under their own label\, Arrested Youth Records. They have also released albums on Panic Button (part of Lookout! Records)\, Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records\, Little Steven’s Wicked Cool Records. \nGymshorts are a sarcastic grin and a pair of bloodshot eyes behind pitch-black Wayfarers in the back row of class\, a best friend and a bad influence all rolled into one. Their sound is ragged and raw and immediately magnetic\, rough and tumble with the kind of lived-in authenticity of a scuffed-up pair of skate shoes. \nSurly Grrly is a MPLS-based queercore protest band that likes to have fun while loudly f*cking the patriarchy. Their live shows are filled with rage\, passion\, and politically-driven lyrics addressing bigotry\, queerness\, and misogyny. With a satisfyingly raw 80’s garage punk sound\, Surly Grrly uses catchy hooks and tempo changes to rile up a crowd\, mixing originals with a variety of bombastic covers. \nDJ WRRC is the Whiskey Rock ‘n’ Roll Club MPLS playing the most prime selections before\, between and after bands. \nDoors at 8pm\, Bands at 8:30\, 9:30\, 10:30

Don’t miss it! \n\n \nIn a time where transgender people are being targeted and further marginalized by expansive overreach of local\, state and national politicians\, Dina Nina brings hope and joy with with the return of “Born Loud” a comedic storytelling of Dina Nina’s life and journey to finding self love. The show is full of humorous anecdotes\, childhood\, and the numerous coming out periods of her journey. Dina Nina Martinez\, the transgender stand-up comedian and actor praised by James Corden\, wows with her blend of sass and charm. She’s been featured in top comedy festivals and venues like LA Pride\, The Comedy Store\, and Zanies Comedy Club. A Huff Post blogger\, she founded Lady Laughs Comedy & Artemis Bow Productions and penned “The Misadventures of Delilah James.” She was honored to be one of “58 Trans Women Actors You Should Know & Also Love\,” by Autostraddle and she earned the title of Madison’s favorite Local Comedian. Dina Nina Martinez is a comedic powerhouse\, spreading laughter and love worldwide. \n\n \n\nGrowing up in rural Wisconsin during the week and Minneapolis on the weekend\, allowed Sarah the perspective that people lived life very differently from one another. This city mouse\, country mouse existence provided a unique lens for commentary and it brought out the natural storyteller in Sarah. A ten-year stint as a blackjack dealer gave Sarah a captive audience to hone her comedy chops. One day she looked at the smoke-filled walls and noisy slot machines and said goodbye. She turned in her apron and decided to bet on herself and become a comedian.  At the same time\, she decided to pursue this dream she also decided to pursue her dream of being a lesbian. Go for broke\, as they say. Sarah is also an advocate for LGBTQ rights\, produces many shows to further queer content and to bring inclusion to the media.

Are we going to love\, or are we going to hate? We have a finite amount of time\, each of us on this Earth. So probably want to make the best out of it instead of wasting time.”  \n\n“Dig A Hole” is the lead track on Be Right Here and sets the tone for another expansive set of rock ‘n’ roll from Blackberry Smoke. As always\, the Georgia-based band—Starr\, Still\, guitarist/vocalist Paul Jackson\, bassist/vocalist Richard Turner and drummer Brit Turner—draw inspiration from Southern rock\, blues-leaning classic rock and rootsy vintage country. \n \nBut on Be Right Here\, Blackberry Smoke sound even more self-assured\, from the strength of their songwriting to their musical execution. \n\n \nOver the past two decades\, Blackberry Smoke has developed this confidence and amassed a loyal fanbase\, leading their last five full-length albums to achieve great chart success\, including 2021’s You Hear Georgia\, which reached #1 on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart.  \n\n \nThe band wrote and recorded You Hear Georgia during the most intense periods of the pandemic but held off on releasing it until they could go tour again. Starr says Blackberry Smoke took the same deliberate approach with Be Right Here\, which was recorded in late 2022 and early 2023\, around the same time drummer Brit Turner was diagnosed with a type of brain tumor known as Glioblastoma. “We didn’t feel a whole lot of pressure to go in and make this one quickly\,” Starr shares. Today\, Turner continues to receive treatment while remaining an active and steadfast force in the band.  \n\n \nWorking once again with Grammy-Award winning producer Dave Cobb\, Blackberry Smoke has crafted music that’s raw and immediate-sounding. They tracked the album live in the same space; an approach Cobb also prefers as it lends itself to a looser vibe. “I remember different times I would say\, ‘I think we should redo that\,’ and he’s like\, ‘No\, leave it that way. That way it’s magical\,” Starr remembers. “It’s just as natural and real as possible.”  \n\n \nLocation also factored into Be Right Here’s sound as they recorded most of the album at Nashville’s beloved RCA Studio A\, and then polished it off in Cobb’s studio in Savannah\, Georgia. “It’s down in the low country and beautiful\,” Starr says of the space\, called Georgia Mae. “This album has a swagger to it\, a deep in the pocket kind of feel. Those surroundings helped give the record that feel.” \n\n \nBe Right Here’s lyrics are particularly literary\, full of vivid and relatable characters that ensure the songs often resemble rich short stories. For example\, “Whatcha Know Good\,” a co-write with Brent Cobb\, is a “feel-good song” driven by an amiable narrator who gets along with everybody and dislikes negativity. “There’s plenty of bad news when you turn on the television\,” Starr says. “The dude in this song\, he doesn’t want to hear it anymore. He wants to go to fishing and talk about good news. We were giggling the whole time because we know that guy. Maybe we are that guy.”  \n\n \nA laid-back\, Stones-like guitar lick from former Buckcherry guitarist Keith Nelson inspired “Like It Was Yesterday\,” helping Starr conjure another very specific character: an earnest young guy who doesn’t have much life experience\, but knows what he likes and is grateful for good times. “I picture him laying on the hood of his car with his girl\, staring up at the moon and the stars\,” Starr says. “It’s the idea of holding onto that fleeting moment\, because it can slip away from you.”  \n\n \nOther Be Right Here highlights include “Azalea” and “Little Bit Crazy\,” both co-written with Starr’s frequent songwriting collaborator Travis Meadows. The latter song\, which begins with a chorus of soulful gospel singers before blooming into a languid Southern rocker\, features a narrator who’s embroiled in a relationship that’s fun\, but not necessarily healthy.  \n\n \nMeanwhile\, the lovely\, elegiac folk ballad “Azalea” is centered on someone who seems emotionally bereft and spiritually lost\, but is working hard to find their way home. “It’s a heavy song. It’s not a happy song\, per se\,” Starr says. However\, “Azalea” has a distinct streak of optimism near the end\, which Starr says is intentional: “There’s some hope in there\, too. It comes with both Travis and I being fathers. Hold on to your kids as tight as you can without smothering them.”  \n\n \nThe delicate balance of familial protection also permeates the easygoing “Other Side of the Light\,” a co-write with Levi Lowrey. Written from the perspective of a young boy on an obstacle-filled road trip\, the tune stresses that he’ll find shelter and safety with his mom. In contrast\, the stomping “Hammer and the Nail\,” which Starr wrote with Nelson\, takes another approach to family ties—in this case\, a son who needs to decide if he’s going to give into his wild side and take after his rebellious father. Fittingly\, lively acoustic guitar gives way to an explosive chorus with freewheeling bar-blues piano and raucous electric riffs.  \n\n \nBe Right Here ends on a confident note\, the organ-driven power ballad\, “Barefoot Angel.” Starr says he doesn’t write many love songs\, but made an exception here. “It’s either me singing about my wife or some guy singing about his wife that’s in the same situation\, which is\, I wouldn’t be able to do anything without her. When I’m worried and feeling bad\, she makes it better.”  \n\n \nFor Blackberry Smoke\, embracing the light and finding the silver lining are once again at the heart of what they do best. \n\n

Forming in 2000\, the Chicago natives achieved nationwide attention with their first two label-backed records\, 2006’s Knuckles Up and 2007’s Jungle of the Midwest Sea. These releases built on a heavy dose of previously established regional notoriety\, helping the band gain steam early on.\n \n\nThe groundwork for what has become the relentlessly-touring sonic assault known as The Koffin Kats was laid near Detroit\, Michigan when Vic Victor (Lead Vocalist\, Upright Bass) joined forces with long-time friend Tommy Koffin (Guitar). After adding Damian Detroit (Drums) the band kicked off in June 2003\, stopping for nothing. Now\, with over ten years of touring internationally and over two thousand live shows\, the touring trio’s current home is out on the open road. \nSupportive Parents is a punk band formed by people in 2014. Those people played in other bands before Supportive Parents too though. Their music has been described as “Billy Joel screaming ’til he feels he’s going to barf.” By them. Supportive Parents wants your money. And they want it now. \nFounded in the cold-ass Minnesota winter of 2017\, Loss leader is the new project from three working-class dudes from Minneapolis\, MN; Tim Schumann (guitar/vocals)\, Andy Slater (drums)\, and Brandon Stein (bass). With deep roots in the Minneapolis and broader Midwest punk and indie scenes (former The Damn Choir\, Mpls Henrys\, Mad Dogs of Glory\, current The Jeffertons) Loss Leaders’ brand of earnest\, hard charging\, melodic midwest punk has earned them a dedicated and steadily growing fan base in Minneapolis and the region.

Based in Minnesota\, Áit Ait (pronounced “ahh-tch eye-tch”) is Aja McCullough (song) and Patrick Maun (sound). The two set out to explore the living tradition that is Irish folk music – ever evolving and always changing\, a solid footing set in the past but looking towards the future.\n \n\nS U P E R I O R  S I R E N  is an eerie folk project from Duluth\, Minnesota.
