SUMMARY:Roots\, Rock & Deep Blues Kick-Off: Koch – Marshall Trio
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nunder the canopy at The Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 6:00pm\nMusic 7:00pm\n21+\nRESERVED: $25\nGA*: $15 ADV / $20 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nKoch – Marshall Trio \nwith guests Joe & Vicki Price\n\n\nKoch-Marshall Trio consists of amazing guitarist Greg Koch\, his son Dylan Koch on drums\, and Hammond B3 specialist Toby Lee Marshall. At the heart of this organ trio is a blues sensibility – but Milwaukee native Koch’s compositions are an amalgam of rock\, funk\, jazz and country served up with heavy grooves and dynamic improvisations – delivered with no small dose of humor and occasional wild abandon.\n\nGreg Koch has forged a successful career as “a guitar player’s guitarist.” He’s a fiercely creative player with a whole trick bag of impressive techniques\, ranging from Albert Lee chicken-pickin’ to Albert King string-bending to all-out Hendrixian abandon..\n \n https://www.gregkoch.com\n \n“Greg Koch has been our go-to guy for a dozen years now. We’ve sent him all around the world as Fender’s top ambassador. \nBill Cummiskey\, V.P. Fender Musical Instruments\n \n“Greg Koch is one of those players with chops to spare…..It doesn’t get much better than this.” John Heidt\, Editor – Vintage Guitar Magazine\n \n“I believe Greg Koch is pound for pound the best guitar player in the world today. His\, tone\, feel and style are unrivaled in today’s guitar playing community. He is scary good. It was a true honor to do shows with him.” Joe Bonamassa\n \n \nJoe and Vicki Price\, one of the pre-eminent blues duos in the Midwest\, are both members of the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame and considered blues institutions. Joe’s also a member of the Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and was a finalist in the International Blues Challenge. Their music has been described as a “righteous\, joyful\, foot-stomping jubilee.”\n \nRight from jump-street\, the electrifying sound of Joe Price hits you in all the places you live\, a one-man blues tornado who can pack\, command and wring-out a dance-floor with the authority of an eight-piece show band.  His own deep and varied bag of original music is so formidable that noted Grammy-award nominated singer/songwriter Greg Brown has long referred to Joe as “the Buddha.”\n\n\n \n—–\n\nCome hungry and enjoy dinner with the show! The Hook has committed to having an eclectic variety of food trucks rotating Under the Canopy throughout the 2022 season for our guests. Come join us in fighting global poverty while enjoying live music from our featured local artists: Sky Chime\, Green\, The Christian Moreno Cova Trio\, and Rafe Carlson. Currently\, 736 million people live in extreme poverty. The Borgen Project is an innovative\, national campaign that works tirelessly to make poverty a focus of U.S. foreign policy. The proceeds from this event will help us shape U.S. foreign policy for the betterment of humankind\, deliver justice for the world’s poor\, and work with leaders of the most powerful nation on earth to right the long-preventable wrong of 15\,000 children dying each day from hunger.Sky Chime is a new Minneapolis group specializing in crafting the prettiest slow jams.  The group is fronted by Peony Hildreth\, who combines her lyricism with a gift for vocal melodies\, sometimes delicate\, sometimes soaring.  Her vocals are complemented by guitarist Alex Schnellman’s beautiful chords\, riffs\, and solos\, as well as melodic basslines from Jonah Esty and tasty drum grooves laid down by Tanner Lindahl.  The band blends the sounds of rock\, soul\, R&B\, pop\, and even some prog rock\, with solo sections full of improvisation\, and memorable vocal melodies and flourishes.  Fans of any genre can enjoy this band\, so you won’t want to miss their set!Green\, is a south Minneapolis alternative band heavily influenced by the rock music of the 80’s and 90’s with a modern spin. Although the project came together during the summer of 2021\, all the members have been friends and schoolmates for many years\, and the chemistry is on full display.Christian Moreno Cova is a pianist and composer from St. Paul\, MN. Born in Caracas\, Venezuela\, Moreno Cova has received acclaim for his innovative compositions and arrangements\, bringing traditional Venezuelan influences into the modern jazz idiom. He holds a degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Minnesota\, Duluth. Along with bassist Dan Vopal and drummer Morgan Durfee\, his group is no stranger to the Duluth and Twin Cities jazz scenes. Rafe Carlson grew up in northern Minnesota in a family full of talented musicians and started making a name for himself as a performing artist in the Duluth/Twin Ports area. As he began to play in front of bigger and bigger crowds and playing at venues across the country\, he turned his attention to songwriting. He met his producer in Nashville\, Tennessee in May of 2021\, and has since made dozens of trips down\, writing with world-class Nashville songwriters\, playing shows in the downtown area\, and spending time in the studio recording his highly anticipated debut album. Rafe plays country\, rock\, and folk music while drawing inspiration from Chris Stapleton\, Chris Cornell\, and Bob Seger.  \n\n—– \nCome hungry and enjoy dinner with the show! The Hook has committed to having an eclectic variety of food trucks rotating Under the Canopy throughout the 2022 season for our guests. For well over a decade\, they’ve toured relentlessly for legions of fans from Boston to Boise and Madrid to Melbourne\, playing large festivals\, theaters\, rock clubs\, and coffeehouses. \n“Emotionally raw and riveting.” Boston Globe \nThe group has shared stages with the likes of Lucinda Williams\, Loretta Lynn\, Mavis Staples\, Wanda Jackson\, George Jones\, Emmylou Harris\, and Blind Boys of Alabama. Eilen’s fans have marveled at her warmth and onstage humor alongside her beautiful songs and fiery performances. In addition to six of her own full-length albums\, Jewell has released two albums with her country-gospel side-project\, the Sacred Shakers; a tribute album to Loretta Lynn titled Butcher Holler; and a recent album of rare blues covers\, Down Hearted Blues. \n“Sometimes as darkly damaged as Lucinda Williams\, at others as defiant and teasing as prime Peggy Lee and always authentically Americana in the Gillian Welch tradition … She’s mighty good.” The Los Angeles Daily News \n“At the core of Jewell’s eighth studio album is a set of self-penned cosmic-country songs on which the singer addresses both the personal and the political\, her smoky voice and back in band in killer form throughout.” – MOJO \n\n—– \nCome hungry and enjoy dinner with the show! The Hook has committed to having an eclectic variety of food trucks rotating Under the Canopy throughout the 2022 season for our guests. They find a fourth and start a band. VIAL is a Minneapolis\, MN-based band\, founded in 2019 by four best friends who just wanted to write and play the music they wanted to hear in Minnesota. With keytarist Taylor Kraemer (she/they)\, guitarist KT Branscom (they/them)\, drummer Katie Fischer (she/they)\, and bassist Kate Kanfield (they/them)\, VIAL brings their genre-bending cascade of sound into electrifying live performances. Songs that smack you in the face: Rage-written speed runs about running over misogynists (“Roadkill”) are followed by a head bopping\, cheek-blushing queer love songs to tingle your toes (“Violet”); VIAL is an indie punk powerhouse who knows how to adapt their sound\, and themselves. Adaptability is one of VIAL’s core strengths and this allowed them to grow in new ways during 2020’s days of quarantine by creating a wide audience on TikTok and other social media while revving up to release their blossoming new record.

You stick your hand deep into that tub\, you know it’s gonna be cold\, and you know it’s gonna be beer\, but\, dang\, if it ain’t always a kick how surprisingly JUST RIGHT it is. Slingin’ Rhythm is just right\, a finely honed\, day-in-the-life brand of juke joint rhythm sitting in the sweet spot of American music invention between country\, hillbilly\, jazz and western swing.  \n \nAnd while “The Train” is indeed a throwback\, the funny thing is\, the more retro he gets\, the fresher he sounds. His songs about the everyday and the everyman\, with their driving pulse and live-in-the-moment vibe\, have a character and passion that go beyond a particular time.\n“The only other guy who has more Hank Williams in him than me is Wayne ‘The Train’ Hancock…Very few people can be real purists\, but Wayne is a purist all the way.” — Hank Williams III Late-blooming Minnesota singer-songwriter Becky Kapell writes gritty\, no-nonsense songs that come from the crossroads of old-time rock and roll and country\, delivered with a wistful croon and a wry smile. Always walking the line between mischief and heartache\, her music doesn’t shy away from life’s truths and her own shortcomings\, and with over 50 years of life’s ups and downs\, she has plenty of material to draw from. Working with her all-star band The Fat 6\, Kapell has quickly become a fixture in the Twin Cities music scene\, sharing the stage with some of Americana’s biggest acts like Southern Culture on the Skids\, Rosie Flores and Erik Koskinen. Having just released her third album In It to Win Itin 2022\, Becky Kapell is poised to become Minnesota’s next big Americana export. Recorded during the pandemic with partner and bandmate Paul Bergen\, it mixes the raw grooves of Lucinda Williams\, the haunting sounds of Emmylou and the classic rock and roll feel of Nick Lowe. \n\n—–\n\nCome hungry and enjoy dinner with the show! The Hook has committed to having an eclectic variety of food trucks rotating Under the Canopy throughout the 2022 season for our guests. DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook AND LADDER THEATER \n\nDoors: 6:30pm \nMusic: 7:00pm\n21+\nGA*: $10 ADV / $15 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nMinnesota Music Coalition & The Hook and Ladder Presents:\nThe Minnesota Musicians Concert Series\nw/ Landon Conrath\, Blue Swans\, & Foe (Pride Event) — featuring Lauren Roseberry + She Rock She Rock \n\nHook & Ladder Theater and Minnesota Music Coalition come together to feature amazing Minnesota talent across a variety of genres. Join us monthly (Every 4th Thursday) to catch some of your favorites as well as some musicians you may not have seen yet!\n \nMinneapolis musician Landon Conrath found his voice almost by accident. A drummer by trade\, Conrath spent his formative years keeping the beat in bands rather than fronting them. It wasn’t until he opened up to a friend at a pool party with a new composition\, he was encouraged to hone in his sound. \nConrath immersed himself in the recording process with reckless abandon. Since making his debut in 2020\, Conrath’s distinctive brand of hook-laden indie-pop has seen him become a viral sensation on Spotify landing on influential playlists virtually overnight. His authentic\, off-the-cuff style has resonated with listeners around the world amassing millions of streams. “I never wanted to make anything that was based on a trend. It’s exciting to have the freedom to really choose who I want to be and what I want to say. My goal is to make music that people can connect with.” \nThere’s a palpable energy on singles “Papercuts\,” “lowercase\,” and “2AM\,” as honest lyrics reflect on the perils of youth and “letting your heart do all the thinking.” Conrath’s uptempo groove full of glistening guitar licks and late-night revelations have been praised by the likes of Early Rising\, The Current\, and more. \n\nBlue Swans is a queer person fronted pop project based out of Minneapolis\, MN. We make pop music that highlights queer love\, loss and the journey to self acceptance. As a band\, we strive to create an experience that is uplifting and dance friendly. For the record\, we can’t dance\, but we will do our best in hopes that you’ll dance along with us.\n \nFoe takes influence from the 2000’s alt-rock surge and fuses it with their love for video-game soundtracks and audioscapes. Creating tracks that span from hard-hitting rock to atmospheric synth-wave\, Foe produces expressive and experimental audio that still maintains a hypnotic\, melodic catchiness.\n
