Claire will be joined by Sarah Green\, Michael Prior\, Su Hwang\, Elizabeth Tannen\, and Chris Santiago who will read their own work and their favorite selections from Meltwater.\n\n\n \nOrder your copy of Meltwater  here.\n \nPraise for Meltwater\n“Despite the inherent sorrow that accompanies our necropastoral landscape\, this collection nevertheless remains tender and beautiful as it ruminates on ongoing loss.”—Marissa Ahmadkhan\, West Review \n“Wahmanholm most certainly writes the body and land electric—and I am charged\, crackling\, and grateful for these stunning poems. Meltwater makes a wholly original music of land\, loss\, and motherhood. A must for anyone wanting to read the hard beauty and fragility of the environment anew.”—Aimee Nezhukumatathil\n“When we call a poet visionary\, we usually mean that the poet in question shows us impalpable abstractions in realms far removed from our own. But Claire Wahmanholm is a visionary of the concrete\, the stippled and slippery textures of the precarious present\, and the unthinkably imminent. The patterns she reveals to us are the fractal geometries of fear as our surroundings\, our loves\, and our very selves are pulled into the spiraling inevitabilities of ecological collapse. These poems are devastating\, even in their heartrending tenderness. Wahmanholm is a poet of singular and essential power.”—Monica Youn\n“In Claire Wahmanholm’s Meltwater\, ‘the world’ means entanglement. In these poems\, things pour through one another; even thinkings pour through one another\, via the melting form of the erasure. There is no outside to the book’s ecology\, and nothing to be considered in isolation: alphabets and glaciers; human love and human loss\, human folly and human violence; animal continuity and species devastation; hairdryers and zygotes. We are inescapably permeated by the everything that is ‘us’: water\, ice; land; animal\, mineral\, vegetable beings and their ways of making meaning; human beings and human ways of making meaning. When Wahmanholm writes\, with others before her\, that ‘you are grass\,’ I know it.”—Éireann Lorsung

People Magazine agrees\, stating that “Toby Lightman continues to shine a light on her knack for making rich\, soulful pop”. In the 15 years since signing with a major label\, Toby has developed and mastered her own sophisticated and unique urban pop sound.\nClassically trained on the violin and self-taught on the guitar\, Lightman was unaware of her vocal talent until high school. Her first solo appearance was singing Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” at her high school graduation to 2\,000 friends and family who were unaware that she harbored such talent. The overwhelming reaction from the crowd was what propelled her to buy a guitar and begin her journey as a recording artist. Lightman moved to New York City after graduating from the University of Wisconsin and signed a record deal with Jason Flom (Matchbox 20\, Lorde\, Jesse J)\, president of Lava Records with only 3 songs written.\n\nThrust into the spotlight\, her debut album Little Things appeared on the “Billboard Top 100” in its first week and gave way to comparisons to sultry songstresses like Lauryn Hill\, Sheryl Crow and Norah Jones. Darling to the normally-harsh critics\, Lightman received high praise from magazines like Rolling Stone\, People\, Billboard and others\, which led to appearances on Letterman\, Carson Daly\, Conan\, CBS Morning Show and more. Her second record\, Bird on a Wire (2006)\, helped lead Lightman to enormous success in the film and TV industry with the single “My Sweet Song” being featured in the movie PS I Love You\, starring Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler. She began and has continued to tour extensively\, both solo and sharing the bill with renowned artists such as Rob Thomas\, Jewel\, James Blunt\, Gavin DeGraw\, Train\, Marc Cohn\, and one special evening opening for the legendary Prince\, an artist that Toby grew up idolizing. Prince happened to be watching the night Toby appeared on Conanand was so impressed with her performance he invited her to open for him.\n\nSince breaking away from the politics and constraints of corporate record companies\, Lightman launched her independent record career with her self-released album\, Let Go\, in 2008. The title track was picked up by Home Shopping Network for use in the network’s marketing campaign\, with promos featuring the song airing on dozens of television channels for six months. She was then asked to sing the theme song and appear in the opening video for NASCAR on Fox\, as well as a string of other collaborations including a brief stint on Broadway. “Being an independent artist in today’s music business can be a scary and daunting thing” says Toby\, “but getting constant positive feedback that people are into what you’re doing inspires you and keeps you going. I’ve been lucky to get that feedback and it’s encouraged me to take more chances.” To that point\, Toby has enjoyed tremendous success licensing her music for placement in film and TV\, with credits including commercials for Microsoft and KMART\, as well as her songs placed on episodes of Desperate Housewives\, One Tree Hill\, Vampire Diaries\, 90210\, The Fosters\, and many more. \n\nToby’s newest album\, After All\, released November 2022 was produced entirely on her own\, playing many of the instruments as well. She was inspired to do this by the passing of one of her idols and direct mentors\, Prince. Toby’s first single “Spaces”\, is the first track that Toby has self-produced. “Spaces” is the beginning of a journey into a more personal time for Toby\, written about the desire to fill the space between one and one’s goals; whether that be a love\, a dream or just to stay strong in hard times and get to the other side. These songs represent and were inspired by Toby’s \nstruggle to get pregnant and journey into motherhood.\n\nToby Lightman’s story is still being told\, and she will be touring in support of new\, deeply personal music in the months and years to come.

Join The April Fools & special guests The Urge as they celebrate retirements & birthdays of band members & spouses.\n \n\nThe April Fools are a killer combo of Minneapolis and Dallas\, Tx. music scene veterans. Hot off the heels of the release of their highly-acclaimed album Wonderland\, they’ll take you on a journey of imagination\, heartbreak\, loss\, and pandemic voodoo with a blend of classic rock meets Americana – all delivered in a style unique unto themselves. \nCombining 90’s indie Rock\, 60’s psychedelic rock\, outlaw country and a sprinkling of jazz\, The April Fools create a mind-bending soundscape that defies easy classification. \n\nThe Urge (including current April Fool Terri Owens) was one of Eau Claire’s premier 70’s-80’s new wave/punk bands. In the early 1980’s they opened for The Ramones on their US tour. A recent reunion resulted in a sold out show and long lines of fans disappointed to be turned away. As one fan remarked\, “The Urge has more raw power than the ground water under Three Mile Island.”

The safe and intimate room with great sound gives the audience an opportunity to immerse into the stories and craft of the song. \n\nDave Simonett has spent almost two decades as the lead singer\, guitar player and songwriter for the widely popular and beloved roots band\, Tramped By Turtles. He also fronts Dead Man Winter\, a bull-bodied\, emotionally resonant brand of Americana-infused indie rock band. He now boldly steps forward with a shining collection of new solo material for the first time under his own name called Red Tail. \n\nWhile Dead Man Winter’s Furnace was a much-needed cathartic experience for Simonett during a dark time\, he is not connecting these songs on Red Tail to his own life as he prefers to allow listeners to develop their own interpretations. The conversational and poetic style in which Simonett writes lends itself to this perfectly\, inspired by the spacious and stark Northern woods of Minnesota\, where he’s from. Drawing from the outdoors\, Simonett uses light\, weather and imagery to paint introspective\, cinematic scenes that are easy to lose yourself in.\nPlease Note: In an effort to create the listening room environment\, we ask all guests in the main room to limit conversation during the performance.

Following full-bodied rock forebears Tom Petty\, George Harrison\, and Roy Orbison\, Erelli’s songwriting explores the unknown glories of this planet and love’s transformational power.  \n\nOver his two decade-long career\, the singer-songwriter-sideman-producer-writer has proven himself equally at home in a multitude of roles: producing albums for artists like GRAMMY-winner Lori McKenna; serving as a sideman guitarist for artists like Paula Cole\, Marc Cohn\, and Josh Ritter; writing and producing his own material\, like 2018’s “By Degrees\,” for which he was nominated for Song of the Year at the Americana Honors and Awards; and most recently\, becoming an advocate for low-vision artists and working with venues to make their spaces more accessible. Written in the wake of his diagnosis with a degenerative retinal disease\, Erelli’s upcoming 2023 album Lay Your Darkness Downis the next step on his journey\, following up on 2020’s Blindsided\, which garnered praise from Rolling Stone Country\,the Associated Press\, NPR\, The Boston Globe\, and more.\n \n  \n\nJeff Ray is an avant-garde resonator slide-guitarist and songwriter based in St Paul\, MN. His music is rooted in the traditions of acoustic blues and American fingerstyle guitar\, but Ray quickly departs from tradition: his songs integrate flavors of Indian classical music and West-African guitar under the guise of cryptic alternate guitar tunings.
