Join us monthly (Every 4th Thursday) to catch some of your favorites as well as some musicians you may not have seen yet! \nMayyadda is a singer\, songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Minneapolis who aspires to use her music to make people slow down\, find themselves in another perspective\, and feel their way towards individual and collective healing. With an eclectic mix of neo-soul vocals\, folksy guitar\, pop-style piano with trap beats sprinkled in for flavor\, she likes to refer to her genre as\, “BlackGirlMagic.” She has been active as a recording artist since 2015\, releasing four projects since then: most recently\, TRY&REMEMBER\, a sonic journey thru the risks one takes on their way to healing\, which she released in October 2021. \n“Joan” is a 4 piece band established in 2020 featuring a young and talented female singer-songwriter\, Kaity Joan\, backed by skillful musicians playing her energetic and catchy original rock tunes as well as heartful ballads in alternative rock and pop arrangements. Joan has performed at various outdoor stages including Minnehaha Falls Park for the Music at Parks event by the City of Minneapolis as well as Veterans Memorial Amphitheater for an event by the City of St. Louis Park. We also perform at various local venues including Acadia\, The Terminal Bar\, Underground Music Cafe\, and Driftwood Char Bar. The band is currently working on the first album scheduled to be released in the spring of 2022. \nBloodline is a unique creative project that features a blend of North and South American influences as well as a fusion of the three siblings’ (Eliza\, Lukaz and Julia) musical talents. Together they create dreamy and nostalgic R&B/Alt. Pop that resonates with the musician in each one of them.

He also likes to create collaborations by dipping into the vast pool of great musicians here in the Twin Cities. \nNew Primitives was founded in 2003 by Stanley Kipper\, a veteran drummer of the Southern California music scene. Leading up to the formation of the Prims\, Stan had established his presence by playing with such legendary acts as Jay Ferguson\, Joe Walsh\, The Bee Gees\, Randy Meisner\, Minnie Ripperton\, Gypsy and Bill Withers\, as well as acting as producer on many albums. He enlisted long time friend\, collaborator\, Percussion expert\, and former Gypsy bandmate Chico Perez\, who himself had performed with recognizable names like Crow\, Seventh Wave\, and Colla. Sometimes all played at the same time. New Primitive live shows are legendary\, big fun\, hypnotic\, dance filled events where the music is designed to bring the performers and the audiences into greater focus and deep into the groove\, all day or night long! Comprised of some of the most seasoned\, highly respected players in NOLA\, the group called themselves The Unusual Suspects. Featuring performances by Muskellunge\, portal iii (Charlie Parr\, Liz Draper\, and Chris Gray) and Benevolents. With Live Visual Art by True Hallucinations and short films by Chris Mars for a unique evening of Invention and Inspiration. \n\n\n\n\n****DONATE****Socks for the Shelterless donors of (newly purchased) socks will be rewarded with raffle tickets for exciting prizes. \nMutt Mutt Engine Dog Rescue\, founded by Sally and Chris Mars\, works to identify dogs in need and the people who need help helping them. *Donors will be rewarded with raffle tickets for exciting prizes.================= \nMuskellunge\, local Noise Pop masters\, wanted to try something different as a follow up to their sold out record release show at Hook & Ladder last November. After befriending legendary MN folk-blues artist Charlie Parr on Instagram\, Muskellunge’s Reba Fritz discovered Parr’s drone project\, portal iii. Intrigued by the inventiveness of the group\, Fritz asked: Could we put something together? Something … inventive? Through a quick series of communications\, the musicians and The Hook and Ladder “invented” the event. The addition of Live Visual Art by True Hallucinations and short films by Chris Mars (co-founder of Mutt Mutt Engine Rescue) will create a truly immersive event. Additionally\, a Sock Drive for the shelterless and collections for Mutt Mutt Engine Animal Rescue will afford attendees an opportunity to win an exciting array of raffle prizes. \nMuskellunge will perform songs from their recent release In a Mess\, In a State\, and a Second Too Late (which made Racket’s year-end list top 10 releases)\, and will collaborate with portal iii on a song or two. Look for new material\, as well. \n“The band acts like they’re driving head-on into pop territory\, then take an exit into sonic experimentation at the last possible second\, swerving to avoid anything too predictable. Crozier’s angular riffs and Boyd’s bouncy basslines provide the perfect platform for Fritz’s gently sardonic vocals.” Keith Harris\, Racket \nCharlie Parr and portal iii will perform adapted songs from his recent release Last of the Better Days Ahead and portal iii’s self-titled release\, before joining forces with Muskellunge for some drone collaborations. \n“Famed composer Pauline Oliveros\, originator of the “deep listening” concept said “Listening is a lifetime of practice\, listening can be focused on detail or open to the entire field of sound. Listening is a mysterious experience that is not the same for everyone.” portal iii invites the listener to become immersed and transported to the edge of consciousness.” \nThis event marks the public debut of Benevolents. The quartet’s compact ballads and sultry rock owe both a debt to Tom Waits and David Bowie while having a theater all their own. With drumming by twin cities’ Chris Hepalo (House on Fire Band)\, guitarist\, Albert Perez (Poor Nobodys)\, Bassist\, Eric Struve\, and Tim Foss’s heart-on-the-sleeve-vocals you’re in for a good fitted flannel in cold times. \nTrue Hallucinations collaborates with stage performers to create Live Visual Art Shows with on and off stage CRT Walls\, Liquid Light and VHSynthesis. \nChris Mars is a fine artist\, painter\, film-maker and musician. His short films have screened at prestigious festivals and museums including Sundance Film Festival and MoMA(NY). \n\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

When they’re not touring the world as valued longtime members of Steve Earle’s band the Dukes\, the musical and marital twosome make inspired albums of their own emotionally vivid\, deeply humanistic songs. The duo’s fourth set of original compositions is the appropriately titled No Time for Love Songs.\n\nThe Mastersons\, who now call Los Angeles home after stints in Austin\, Brooklyn and Terlingua\, Texas; recorded No Time for Love Songs at L.A.’s legendary Sunset Sound Recorders with Shooter Jennings; the album was engineered and mixed by five-time Grammy Award-winning engineer\, Ryan Freeland. Shooter had recruited The Mastersons to play on his albums Family Man (2012) and The Other Life (2013)\, and they’d recently reunited to work on Tanya Tucker’s acclaimed comeback album While I’m Livin’\, which Jennings co-produced with Brandi Carlile.\n\n“I’ve known Chris and Eleanor since about 2010\, and they’re unbelievable musicians and lifetime friends\,” states longtime admirer Jennings. “They were perfect for Tanya’s record\, and right after that\, they asked me to produce No Time for Love Songs. Their take on music and singing and instrumentation is so original\, and I knew that I’d be getting something great out of the experience\, just by being there. They both bring so much to the table as musicians\, and they sing so beautifully together\, and they write these intricate\, beautiful songs. I just love working with them.”\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n\n\n“We were reminded of what a great musician and collaborator he was\,” Eleanor notes. “After recording with Shooter at Sunset Sound on Tanya’s album\, we decided that that’s exactly where we needed to make this record.” \n\n\n“I do think geography comes into play when making records\, and I think this record does have a Southern California feel to it\,” Chris adds. “I don’t know if that’s because we move a little slower than when we lived on the east coast\, or if it’s just where we are in our lives. It also doesn’t hurt to live in a city where so many talented people live. We have an amazing community of friends and collaborators that helped shape this album.” \n\nThose collaborators include Eleanor’s sister Bonnie Whitmore\, a notable songwriter and recording artist in her own right\, who sang and played bass on the No Time for Love Songs sessions\, with bassist/keyboardist Tyler Chester (Andrew Bird\, Sara Watkins\, Madison Cunningham) and drummer Mark Stepro (Butch Walker\, Ben Kweller\, Jakob Dylan) rounding out the studio band. Longtime friend Aaron Lee Tasjan added background vocals on two songs.\n“I think on our fourth record we’re pretty comfortable with who we are\, and we tend to not sweat the little things so much\,” observes Chris\, adding\, “We loved working with Shooter and the band. Basically we’d turn up to the studio\, huddle around the piano and show everyone a song\, then we’d track it. The whole process moved pretty quickly\, resulting in a completed album in about three weeks. The quick turnaround was a bit stressful\, but overall I think it makes for an honest documentation of these songs and a snapshot of a moment in time.”\n\nNo Time for Love Songs explores the emotional challenges of a morally compromised era\, and reflects the experiences that the pair has accumulated in their travels. Those experiences helped to inspire the big-hearted songcraft of such compelling new tunes as “Spellbound\,” “Circle the Sun\,” “Eyes Open Wide\,” “The Silver Line\,” “There Is A Song to Sing” and the album’s poignant title track\, which showcase the Mastersons’ organic harmonies\, stirring melodies and insightful lyrics\, which consistently offer clear-eyed optimism in the face of loss and discouragement.\n\n“We’ve had a lot to write about over the past three years\,” says Eleanor. “After the 2016 election\, we felt a profound sense of loss\, not only for our loved ones but for our country. We felt a shift away from decency and kindness\, towards ugliness. We’ve traded truth\, reason\, justice\, journalism\, facts and revering the Constitution for utter chaos.” \n\n“As our country becomes more divided\,” Chris observes\, “it makes it harder to connect with loved ones and friends that disagree. Fundamentally we all want the same things\, but we’re pitted against each other by extreme rhetoric on both sides. If we can lead with kindness and empathy\, there is a way out.”\nChris and Eleanor’s new songs are also partially influenced by the loss of several people close to them\, including Chris’ father\, who passed away just after the release of the Mastersons’ 2014 album Good Luck Charm; friend and fellow musician Chris Porter; Austin musician and producer George Reiff\, who played extensively with the Mastersons and produced their 2017 album Transient Lullaby. The pair also recently lost Dukes bassist Kelley Looney\, with whom they toured and recorded for the past decade.\n“The changes in our country and in the world make us long for the people we’ve lost along the way\,” adds Chris. “Only by cataloging and acknowledging loss and grief can we move forward with gratitude for what we have.”\n\nWith No Time for Love Songs\, the duo also celebrates the tenth anniversary of their partnership and continue their creative journey\, crafting a collection of songs that could easily serve as the soundtrack to our lives—or at least one version of it.\n\nPrior to launching their recording partnership\, Chris played with Son Volt\, Jack Ingram and others\, while Eleanor lent her talents to projects by Regina Spektor and Angus & Julia Stone. In 2008\, Chris stepped out with his self-released solo album The Late Great Chris Masterson\, while Eleanor made her solo move with the D.I.Y. effort Airplanes. In 2012\, they released their first collaborative effort\, Birds Fly South. That album won widespread critical acclaim\, with Esquire designating the Mastersons as one of the “Bands You Need To Know Right Now.” Two years later\, they followed up their debut with Good Luck Charm\, which the Austin Chronicle praised for the duo’s “spunky wit and rare emotional maturity.” Good Luck Charm earned the Mastersons slots on NPR’s Mountain Stage and at high-profile festivals around the world. 2017’s Transient Lullaby explored new musical and lyrical territory\, demonstrating how much the pair’s songwriting and performing skills had evolved with time\, travel and experience.\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

For decades\, Trailer Trash’s Trashy Little Xmas Show has been a seasonal stand-out\, selling out venues around the state and providing the perfect accompaniment to the holiday hoopla with a cheerful blend of irreverent holiday music. \nNow in its twenty-sixth year\, the band has turned generations of music lovers on to its brand of American roots\, country\, swing and rockabilly. Their contagious enthusiasm and obvious enjoyment onstage have earned Trailer Trash the reputation of being Minnesota’s premier honky tonk band. \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
