To create their distinctive sound\, the band “turns” to the distant past of early American recorded music\, “turns” again to that renaissance of the 1960s and 1970s\, and finally “turns” again to the present looking forward.  Even though Turn Turn Turn was born as a cover band\, the group’s original material – sweetheart alt-country folk-pop – quickly stole the spotlight.\n \nTurn Turn Turn’s Laurel Canyon meets 70’s-Nashville-cosmic soul vibe is layered with three-part harmonies that stitch the band’s musical tapestry together. Members Adam Levy (guitars\, vocals)\, Savannah Smith (guitar\, vocals) and Barb Brynstad (bass\, vocals) are all mainstays of the Minnesota music scene and together craft an infectious\, pop-infused Americana. They each have a distinct voice\, and the combination – a “fourth voice” – is greater than the sum of its parts.\n​​\nAdam Levy is a veteran of the Minnesota rock scene\, best known for leading up the alt-rock band The Honeydogs. As a prolific songwriter and producer\, he has worked across many genres and performed worldwide. Besides writing\, recording\, and performing music\, Adam is a social activist and educator\, teaching high school students social studies and songwriting.\n \nSavannah Smith has worked with such acts as Trampled by Turtles\, William Elliot Whitmore and Laura Stevenson. In 2019\, Savannah released her debut full-length album\, Leo. The follow-up to her EP Leaving Eau Claire\, it was written in a house built by her great-grandfather and was recorded and produced Minneapolis’ Brett Bullion (Low\, Halloween Alaska\, Bad Bad Hats).\n \nBarb Brynstad is an in-demand musician with decades-long roots in the Twin Cities music community. As a singer\, bassist and guitarist\, she has performed with a variety of musicians\, including Chastity Brown\, Tina Schlieske\, and the late-great Willie Murphy. She has also performed with comedian Lizz Winstead (The Daily Show) and contributes her musical talents to a variety of theater and dance projects.\n \n\n\n	\n		\n\n	\n	\n \n\nThe Scarlet Goodbye\, labelled “the most unlikely mash-up in Minnesota Music History”\, is the creative combination of Daniel Murphy and Jeff Arundel.\n \nDaniel D. Murphy was a critical element in the formation of two favorite bands\, Soul Asylum and Golden Smog\, sharing the stage with fellow hitmakers Dave Pirner\, Gary Louris\, and Jeff Tweedy.  After a career at the top\, including the GRAMMY for “Runaway Train” and sharing the biggest stages around the world\, Danny decided he was ready to leave the road\, and\, in 2012\, stepped aside.  \n\nA chance meeting at a 2019 holiday party with Minnesota yacht-rocker Jeff Arundel was the bait. Arundel had released 8 records of original songs\, toured extensively\, and was also active as a producer of various artists including Bryan White\, Keri Noble\, Billy McLaughlin\, and Adrianne Lenker. And\, the most unlikely mash-up in Minnesota music history was formed and off to the races.\n \nWith the first collaboration\, “Paris”\, they realized that they were onto something\, as Murphy shoved Arundel into a swagger\, and Arundel tip-toed Murphy onto revealing some vulnerabilities. Meeting in an attic studio during the Pandemic\, Murphy and Arundel fashioned a collection of songs that producer John Fields\, who was brought in to mix the record\, calls “both timeless and unique\, part Rolling Stones and part Townes Van Zandt”.\n \nIn 2022\, The Scarlet Goodbye released three singles and a video to critical acclaim\, and has performed on stages large and small\, bracing for the 2023 release of their full-length record “Hope’s Eternal”\, on Ingrooves/Universal\, via Nashville’s The Label Group.\n \n \n\n—–The Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2023. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by StarTribune readers.—–The Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2023 season for our guests.Come hungry and enjoy dinner with the show!\n

Pre-party starts at 6:30pm. Showtime at 8pm. \nIra Ford\, from Maryland\, was a lyricist before he followed his passion of comedy. He was always amazed at how a comedian could hold so many people’s attention. Now based in Minneapolis\, he is an open book who talks about life experiences ranging from drugs to family. He unapologetically says what he thinks. His unique and hilarious stories earned him a semifinalist finish at The Funniest Person with a Day Job Contest at Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy\, and had his own wildly popular monthly showcase which he hosted and curates “Laughs and Legends” at Lakes and Legends Brewery in downtown Minneapolis. He is currently a paid regular emcee at the hottest comedy club in Minnesota Acme Comedy Company.\n \n\nMatt Dooyema is a proud pet father of 4 from St Cloud. A bartender by trade\, Matt’s humor has been influenced by the stories from behind the bartop and the soul crushing realization that his mother was most likely right about not finishing college. Irreverent by nature\, Silly by design\, Bitter by circumstance\, Matt is a high energy performer willing to please and host of the Keller Comedy Open Mic & Co host of the Awful Service Podcast. \nAt 19 years old\, Aidan McCluskey gave up on his associate’s degree and began his comedy career. Four months after his first open mic\, he won Acme’s Funniest Person Contest\, becoming the youngest winner in the contest’s history. After taking a short sabbatical to join a pyramid scheme in Las Vegas\, Aidan returned to Minneapolis in 2021 and quickly rose to the top of the local scene. He is now a regular at Acme Comedy Company and The House of Comedy. He’s been a guest on the Adam Friedland Show and hosts his own semi-regular podcast\, Smoke Show. You can find him headlining a random bar in the middle of nowhere. \nGabby Ok was the finalist in The Funniest Person With a Day Job Contest. \nSydni Stephens is the producer of The Gopher Hole Comedy Club and HOC Funniest Person Finalist.

Every Sunday from 6-8pm\, she presents a variety of some of the best music Minnesota has to offer\, as well as interviews some of the most influential voices in the state. Prior to her role at The Current\, Diane worked as the talent booker for the Minneapolis-based venue/restaurant Icehouse. Diane first gained notoriety in her hometown of Fargo-Moorhead. The Fargo South High School and Minnesota State University Moorhead music grad fronts the local hip-hop band D Mills & The Thrills. She served as the editor-in-chief of the local alt weekly High Plains Reader. The “Westies”\, as they soon became known\, started out as an intensely chaotic\, Stooge-y hard rock band\, but later evolved into a hard-to-define amalgam of indie\, rock\, roots\, punk\, and funk\, driven by a ferocious\, lusty energy that infected any audience they came into contact with at one legendary live show after another.
