SUMMARY:The Dollyrots w/ Gymshorts\, Surly Grrly\, DJ WRRC
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nJames Ballentine “Uptown” VFW Post 246 \n\nDoors 8:00pm\nMusic 8:30pm\n21+\n$20.00 Advance / $25.00 Day Of Show\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nSpring Fling 2024 Tour\nThe Dollyrots\nThe Dollyrots are a Punk Rock band formed in 2000\, composed of wife Kelly Ogden (bass\, lead vocals) and husband Luis Cabezas (guitar\, backing vocals). They have released eight studio albums and are currently under their own label\, Arrested Youth Records. They have also released albums on Panic Button (part of Lookout! Records)\, Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records\, Little Steven’s Wicked Cool Records. \nGymshorts are a sarcastic grin and a pair of bloodshot eyes behind pitch-black Wayfarers in the back row of class\, a best friend and a bad influence all rolled into one. Their sound is ragged and raw and immediately magnetic\, rough and tumble with the kind of lived-in authenticity of a scuffed-up pair of skate shoes. \nSurly Grrly is a MPLS-based queercore protest band that likes to have fun while loudly f*cking the patriarchy. Their live shows are filled with rage\, passion\, and politically-driven lyrics addressing bigotry\, queerness\, and misogyny. With a satisfyingly raw 80’s garage punk sound\, Surly Grrly uses catchy hooks and tempo changes to rile up a crowd\, mixing originals with a variety of bombastic covers. \nDJ WRRC is the Whiskey Rock ‘n’ Roll Club MPLS playing the most prime selections before\, between and after bands. \nDoors at 8pm\, Bands at 8:30\, 9:30\, 10:30

Minneapolis comedian\, writer\, and advocate Sarah McPeck opens the show. 10% of proceeds go to Outfront MN. AND there will be a post show chat with local leaders and representatives. Don’t miss it! \n\n \nIn a time where transgender people are being targeted and further marginalized by expansive overreach of local\, state and national politicians\, Dina Nina brings hope and joy with with the return of “Born Loud” a comedic storytelling of Dina Nina’s life and journey to finding self love. The show is full of humorous anecdotes\, childhood\, and the numerous coming out periods of her journey. Dina Nina Martinez\, the transgender stand-up comedian and actor praised by James Corden\, wows with her blend of sass and charm. She’s been featured in top comedy festivals and venues like LA Pride\, The Comedy Store\, and Zanies Comedy Club. A Huff Post blogger\, she founded Lady Laughs Comedy & Artemis Bow Productions and penned “The Misadventures of Delilah James.” She was honored to be one of “58 Trans Women Actors You Should Know & Also Love\,” by Autostraddle and she earned the title of Madison’s favorite Local Comedian. Dina Nina Martinez is a comedic powerhouse\, spreading laughter and love worldwide. \n\n \n\nGrowing up in rural Wisconsin during the week and Minneapolis on the weekend\, allowed Sarah the perspective that people lived life very differently from one another. This city mouse\, country mouse existence provided a unique lens for commentary and it brought out the natural storyteller in Sarah. A ten-year stint as a blackjack dealer gave Sarah a captive audience to hone her comedy chops. One day she looked at the smoke-filled walls and noisy slot machines and said goodbye. She turned in her apron and decided to bet on herself and become a comedian.  At the same time\, she decided to pursue this dream she also decided to pursue her dream of being a lesbian. Go for broke\, as they say. Sarah is also an advocate for LGBTQ rights\, produces many shows to further queer content and to bring inclusion to the media.

Are we going to love\, or are we going to hate? We have a finite amount of time\, each of us on this Earth. So probably want to make the best out of it instead of wasting time.”  \n\n“Dig A Hole” is the lead track on Be Right Here and sets the tone for another expansive set of rock ‘n’ roll from Blackberry Smoke. As always\, the Georgia-based band—Starr\, Still\, guitarist/vocalist Paul Jackson\, bassist/vocalist Richard Turner and drummer Brit Turner—draw inspiration from Southern rock\, blues-leaning classic rock and rootsy vintage country. \n \nBut on Be Right Here\, Blackberry Smoke sound even more self-assured\, from the strength of their songwriting to their musical execution. \n\n \nOver the past two decades\, Blackberry Smoke has developed this confidence and amassed a loyal fanbase\, leading their last five full-length albums to achieve great chart success\, including 2021’s You Hear Georgia\, which reached #1 on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart.  \n\n \nThe band wrote and recorded You Hear Georgia during the most intense periods of the pandemic but held off on releasing it until they could go tour again. Starr says Blackberry Smoke took the same deliberate approach with Be Right Here\, which was recorded in late 2022 and early 2023\, around the same time drummer Brit Turner was diagnosed with a type of brain tumor known as Glioblastoma. “We didn’t feel a whole lot of pressure to go in and make this one quickly\,” Starr shares. Today\, Turner continues to receive treatment while remaining an active and steadfast force in the band.  \n\n \nWorking once again with Grammy-Award winning producer Dave Cobb\, Blackberry Smoke has crafted music that’s raw and immediate-sounding. They tracked the album live in the same space; an approach Cobb also prefers as it lends itself to a looser vibe. “I remember different times I would say\, ‘I think we should redo that\,’ and he’s like\, ‘No\, leave it that way. That way it’s magical\,” Starr remembers. “It’s just as natural and real as possible.”  \n\n \nLocation also factored into Be Right Here’s sound as they recorded most of the album at Nashville’s beloved RCA Studio A\, and then polished it off in Cobb’s studio in Savannah\, Georgia. “It’s down in the low country and beautiful\,” Starr says of the space\, called Georgia Mae. “This album has a swagger to it\, a deep in the pocket kind of feel. Those surroundings helped give the record that feel.” \n\n \nBe Right Here’s lyrics are particularly literary\, full of vivid and relatable characters that ensure the songs often resemble rich short stories. For example\, “Whatcha Know Good\,” a co-write with Brent Cobb\, is a “feel-good song” driven by an amiable narrator who gets along with everybody and dislikes negativity. “There’s plenty of bad news when you turn on the television\,” Starr says. “The dude in this song\, he doesn’t want to hear it anymore. He wants to go to fishing and talk about good news. We were giggling the whole time because we know that guy. Maybe we are that guy.”  \n\n \nA laid-back\, Stones-like guitar lick from former Buckcherry guitarist Keith Nelson inspired “Like It Was Yesterday\,” helping Starr conjure another very specific character: an earnest young guy who doesn’t have much life experience\, but knows what he likes and is grateful for good times. “I picture him laying on the hood of his car with his girl\, staring up at the moon and the stars\,” Starr says. “It’s the idea of holding onto that fleeting moment\, because it can slip away from you.”  \n\n \nOther Be Right Here highlights include “Azalea” and “Little Bit Crazy\,” both co-written with Starr’s frequent songwriting collaborator Travis Meadows. The latter song\, which begins with a chorus of soulful gospel singers before blooming into a languid Southern rocker\, features a narrator who’s embroiled in a relationship that’s fun\, but not necessarily healthy.  \n\n \nMeanwhile\, the lovely\, elegiac folk ballad “Azalea” is centered on someone who seems emotionally bereft and spiritually lost\, but is working hard to find their way home. “It’s a heavy song. It’s not a happy song\, per se\,” Starr says. However\, “Azalea” has a distinct streak of optimism near the end\, which Starr says is intentional: “There’s some hope in there\, too. It comes with both Travis and I being fathers. Hold on to your kids as tight as you can without smothering them.”  \n\n \nThe delicate balance of familial protection also permeates the easygoing “Other Side of the Light\,” a co-write with Levi Lowrey. Written from the perspective of a young boy on an obstacle-filled road trip\, the tune stresses that he’ll find shelter and safety with his mom. In contrast\, the stomping “Hammer and the Nail\,” which Starr wrote with Nelson\, takes another approach to family ties—in this case\, a son who needs to decide if he’s going to give into his wild side and take after his rebellious father. Fittingly\, lively acoustic guitar gives way to an explosive chorus with freewheeling bar-blues piano and raucous electric riffs.  \n\n \nBe Right Here ends on a confident note\, the organ-driven power ballad\, “Barefoot Angel.” Starr says he doesn’t write many love songs\, but made an exception here. “It’s either me singing about my wife or some guy singing about his wife that’s in the same situation\, which is\, I wouldn’t be able to do anything without her. When I’m worried and feeling bad\, she makes it better.”  \n\n \nFor Blackberry Smoke\, embracing the light and finding the silver lining are once again at the heart of what they do best. \n\n

Forming in 2000\, the Chicago natives achieved nationwide attention with their first two label-backed records\, 2006’s Knuckles Up and 2007’s Jungle of the Midwest Sea. These releases built on a heavy dose of previously established regional notoriety\, helping the band gain steam early on.\n \n\nThe groundwork for what has become the relentlessly-touring sonic assault known as The Koffin Kats was laid near Detroit\, Michigan when Vic Victor (Lead Vocalist\, Upright Bass) joined forces with long-time friend Tommy Koffin (Guitar). After adding Damian Detroit (Drums) the band kicked off in June 2003\, stopping for nothing. Now\, with over ten years of touring internationally and over two thousand live shows\, the touring trio’s current home is out on the open road. \nSupportive Parents is a punk band formed by people in 2014. Those people played in other bands before Supportive Parents too though. Their music has been described as “Billy Joel screaming ’til he feels he’s going to barf.” By them. Supportive Parents wants your money. And they want it now. \nFounded in the cold-ass Minnesota winter of 2017\, Loss leader is the new project from three working-class dudes from Minneapolis\, MN; Tim Schumann (guitar/vocals)\, Andy Slater (drums)\, and Brandon Stein (bass). With deep roots in the Minneapolis and broader Midwest punk and indie scenes (former The Damn Choir\, Mpls Henrys\, Mad Dogs of Glory\, current The Jeffertons) Loss Leaders’ brand of earnest\, hard charging\, melodic midwest punk has earned them a dedicated and steadily growing fan base in Minneapolis and the region.

Based in Minnesota\, Áit Ait (pronounced “ahh-tch eye-tch”) is Aja McCullough (song) and Patrick Maun (sound). The two set out to explore the living tradition that is Irish folk music – ever evolving and always changing\, a solid footing set in the past but looking towards the future.\n \n\nS U P E R I O R  S I R E N  is an eerie folk project from Duluth\, Minnesota. On her new album\, Not Over This Yet\, Mahal is ready to confront the past with brutal honesty and tender consideration. The ten tracks play out like thumbing through a photo album\, some snapshots burnt at the edges\, blurry and overexposed\, others are intricately framed\, capturing first impressions of what has grown into a golden-light love. Her latest singles have earned her placements on both Apple Music and Amazon playlists\, and the album has garnered attention from the likes of Under The Radar and Consequence of Sound\, who wrote\, “it feels as though she’s stepped into some of her own power.” \n\n \nPoolboy is an indie rock band from Minneapolis. They formed in 2015 and released their self-produced EP in February of 2016\, which Andrea Swenson of The Current called\, “An impressive debut.” In 2017\, they were named City Pages’ Best New Band.\nTheir newest five song EP\, Good Orchard\, was released in 2021 and represents a course change for the group that explores themes of existential fatigue\, intimacy\, and personal growth through dynamic lyricism placed within a vibrant and melodic soundscape.\nGood Orchard was engineered\, produced\, and mixed by Con Davison (Wingman\, Bad Bad Hats) and mastered by Huntley Miller (Bon Iver\, Sylvan Esso). \n\n

SUMMARY:Missy Raines & Allegheny Album Release w/ The Lake Monsters
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe mission room at The Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:00pm :: Music 7:30pm \n21+\nGA Seating: $25 (First Come First Serve Basis) \nGeneral Admission: $18 Advance / $25 Day of Show\n \n\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nMissy Raines & Allegheny Album Release Party\n\n\nw/ The Lake Monsters\n \n\nGRAMMY® nominated Missy Raines was named 2021 International Bluegrass Music Association Bass Player of the Year\, for the 10th time\, more than any other bass player in the history of the organization. Missy Raines has proven herself without doubt as an iconic bluegrass instrumentalist. But with the success of her latest release\, Royal Traveller\, Raines has stepped into the spotlight as a songwriter and singer as well. Royal Traveller was nominated for a GRAMMY® in 2020 and was produced by Compass Records co-founder and renowned banjoist\, Alison Brown. \n \nCurrently\, Missy is touring with her own band\, Missy Raines & Allegheny\, a bluegrass ensemble featuring banjo\, fiddle\, mandolin\, guitar\, and bass. With more than a nod to her deep bluegrass roots\, Allegheny offers Missy fertile ground to bring a together a lifetime of traditional inspiration along with her unique approach to string band music. \n \nAn experienced teacher\, Missy has been teaching bass at workshops and music camps all over the world since 1998 and also heads the ArtistsWorks Academy of Bluegrass School of Bluegrass Bass\, an online learning platform that features its’ trademarked Video Exchange technology.\n \nIn 1998\, Raines became the first woman to win IBMA’s Bass Player of the Year award. Her album\, Royal Traveller\, highlights this particular piece of Raines’ history with the stand out track “Swept Away”\, which features the first 5 women to win IBMA instrumentalist awards – Raines\, Brown\, Sierra Hull\, Becky Buller\, and Molly Tuttle. “Swept Away” was named 2018 IBMA Recorded Event of the Year.\nMissy’s version of the iconic Flatt & Scruggs “Darlin Pal(s) of Mine”\, (from the same album)\, was named 2019 Instrumental Recording of the Year by the IBMA. The tune features Alison Brown on banjo\, Todd Phillips on bass and Mike Bub on bass. \n \nIn 2020\, Missy received the IBMA Song of the Year award along with co-writers\, Becky Buller and Alison Brown for “Chicago Barn Dance”\, a song written specifically for the Chicago-based band\, Special Consensus. \n—\n\nThe Lake Monsters are friends from many bluegrass and other acoustic music bands in the area that got together for a house gig in the summer of 2023. At the end of the summer they were having so much fun they decided to keep it going. “The idea is simple\, straight ahead classic bluegrass – songs we all know and play together when we’re just jamming and doing it just for the fun of it.” It is more the rule than the exception that at any time\, any number of the best players from the top bluegrass acts in the area either sub in or make a guest appearance. In that respect it is more of a “collective” of bluegrass musicians. \n \nJohn Bodle – is a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist and bluegrass historian. He has played in numerous Twin Cities area bands including Ivory Bridge\, The Mark Kreitzer Band\, and LaPlant Road. \n \nBrent Fuqua – is originally from Kansas City and is a lifelong practitioner and student of Americana\, Folk and Bluegrass. He has been working as a mandolin player in the Minneapolis area for the last 10 years. Among the acts has worked with are Mother Banjo\, Blue Groove\, The Tony Rook Band\, Mashtun\, The Fisheads\, and Derek Johnson & Hardgrass. \n\n \nMarty Marrone – is originally from the Chicago area and toured for years as a member of national bluegrass band Special Consensus. Since moving to Minneapolis he had his own band Tangled Roots\, and spent years as the lead singer and guitarist in The High 48’s. He also plays in The Pale Ales Bluegrass Band. \n \nRina Rossi is a stalwart in the Old Time Music and square dance scene in the area. She and her husband AJ Srubas have a popular band Steam Machine and formerly were founding members of Back Up & Push.\n \n\nTom Schaefer is ubiquitous. If there’s a fiddle needed in any situation it’s likely him. Some of Tom’s more recent acts are Honky Tonk Jump\, Mashtun\, The Mark Kreitzer Band. He also appears with many national acts that come through town.

Those are the qualities that have steered Zito’s career since the beginning and continue to define every effort he’s offered since.\n \nZito recorded the new album last September at Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood\, California\, with Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith producing. Both Bonamassa and Smith were also involved in the production of Blood Brothers\, the critically-acclaimed album Zito recorded with fellow label guitarist Albert Castiglia\, which topped both the Billboard and iTunes blues charts after its release in March\, 2023. \n \n“Life Is Hard is a complete work of art for me\,” says Mike Zito about the new disc. “I believe this is the best album I’ve ever made in my life. My wife Laura and I planned this idea of pouring my heart out in music after her death from cancer. Joe\, Josh and the incredible musicians were fully aware of the task at hand. They brought a lot of emotion to the music. I am so proud of this album and I know Laura would be proud as well.”\n \nThe even-dozen tracks on Life Is Hard include not only several Mike Zito originals\, but also his takes on a wide variety of blues songs written by such contemporaries as Tinsley Ellis\, Walter Trout\, Tab Benoit and Fred James. Sprinkled in are covers from a diverse assortment of blues/roots music icons\, including Little Milton (“Lonely Man”)\, Stevie Wonder(“Have a Talk with God”) and Reverend Gary Davis (“Death Don’t Have No Mercy”)\, plus the outside-the-box blues-worthy rendering of the Guess Who classic\, “These Eyes.”

You can wish the band good luck tonight at the Hook!\n \nThe Belfast Cowboys are a nine-piece\, horn-driven band from Minneapolis that specializes in the music of Van Morrison – mixing rock\, blues\, roots and soul sounds. Led by veteran songwriter and guitarist Terry Walsh and powered by a four-piece horn section\, the Cowboys have flourished in the renowned Minnesota music scene\, and have consistently packed houses and wowed crowds since 2002.\n \nThe band has expanded their content over the years to include rock and soul covers along with Terry’s own originals\, which have become fan favorites. Now a beloved staple in Minnesota\, the 9-piece Belfast Cowboys averaged over 120 shows a year before the pandemic. The bar-tested troubadours are known for playing epic sets at their weekly Minneapolis gigs and drawing large crowds to outdoor festivals. Occasionally they’ll venture beyond the Midwest to play Ireland\, Phoenix\, New York’s Times Square\, and once opened for the band Chicago in front of 15\,000 people.
