SUMMARY:Davina & the Vagabonds
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nunder the canopy at The Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 6:00pm\nMusic 7:00pm\n21+\n\nReserved Seats: $40 ADV / $50 DOS\n\nGA*: $25 ADV / $30 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nDavina & the Vagabonds\nw/ guest Lucy Michelle\n\nDAVINA & THE VAGABONDS have created a stir on the national music scene with their high-energy live shows\, level A musicianship\, sharp-dressed professionalism\, and Sowers’ commanding stage presence. With influences ranging from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits\, the band is converting audiences one show at a time\, from Vancouver to Miami and across Europe. In 2011 Davina released her first full length\, all original album Black Cloud . It was named one of the 10 best releases of the year by the Minneapolis Star & Tribune and awarded 4 ½ stars from Downbeat Magazine. Their next release in 2014\, Sunshine\, hit number 13 in the Billboard Blues Chart and led them to be a musical feature on the hit BBC show\, Later with Jools Holland. \nDATV’s shows are filled with New Orleans charm\, Memphis soul swagger\, dark theatrical moments that evoke Kurt Weill\, and tender gospel passages. Davina’s voice and stage presence defy category in a different way. Davina has been compared to Etta James\, Amy Winehouse\, Janis Joplin\, Billie Holiday and Betty Boop\, but comparisons don’t suffice: Sowers is a true original. \n\nLucy Michelle is a songwriter as serious as they come. Twin Cities natives will know her as frontwoman of gypsy-pop outfit Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles\, a raucous and eclectic six-piece. At home and on the road\, Lucy has stood boldly amidst that chugging whirlwind of cello and accordion\, stomping her foot and singing out fiercely over the top of it all. It’s a collaboration five years strong whose catalogue reveals an artist developing not only her craft\, but also personally. Through songs of adventure\, love and reflection Lucy has shared an evolving understanding of herself and her values. It’s a process that in 2012 led Lucy\, after becoming happily married\, to write a batch of songs more deeply personal than any she’d written before. The result is Attack of the Heart\, Lucy Michelle’s first ever solo album. Enlisting the help of local greats John Munson and Chan Polling\, Lucy set out to create an American pop gem. It’s a hard-earned hallelujah at times reminiscent of Dylan’s contented spirit on ‘Nashville Skyline’ but with a strut all her own. “Heart Race”\, the album’s opener\, rolls in as gentle as a weekend sunrise upon a Minnesota lake. \n—– \nCome hungry and enjoy dinner with the show! The Hook has committed to having an eclectic variety of food trucks rotating Under the Canopy throughout the 2022 season for our guests. Please feel free to tell us anyone you’d like to see serving food UTC this spring! \n—– \nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with it’s uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of south Minneapolis in 2022.*Voted Best in MN 2021 by Star Tribune readers. \n—– \n$2 OFF An Arbeiter Brewing Pint!Come enjoy a brew or two before or after any Under The Canopy Concert. Just show your purchased wristband and receive $2 off a pint! SUMMARY:Self-Evident\, Traindodge\, & Dead History
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 9:00pm\nMusic 9:30pm\n21+\nGA*: $10 ADV / $15 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nSelf-Evident (25 Year Anniversary)
Traindodge (From OKC)
Dead History (LP Release)\nSelf-Evident can’t be easily categorized. Sure\, the Minneapolis trio’s music includes aspects of punk\, indie rock\, and post-rock\, but the sum of their parts is something more interesting and uncommon. While the band’s career spans over two decades\, it’s this combination of influences that has gotten them noticed of late\, and has made their upcoming new album\, Lost Inside The Machinery\, one of 2019’s first much-anticipated releases. \n-Kerrang! \n\nTraindodge is a band formed in Oklahoma City\, Oklahoma. Born in 1996. Seven full length albums\, four EPs and several compilation credits to date. Over 600 shows played covering 38 states and 2 continents.\nDead History Minneapolis-based post-hardcore + shoegaze + emo + space rock quintet featuring members of Gratitude\, Align\, Picturesque\, Reach\, BNLX\, Story of the Sea\, Rad Owl\, The Book of Dead Names\, Floodplain\, etc. Debut album out now via Landland Colportage.

He’s christened his brand of American roots “Ameripolitan” to differentiate it from current crop of Nashville-based pop country. The Alabama-born\, Texas-raised Watson may be the hardest working entertainer today and is rapidly approaching legendary status. \nDubbed “the silver pompadoured\, baritone beltin’\, Lone Star beer drinkin’\, honky-tonk hellraiser” by The Austin Chronicle\, Watson sat in with Jimmy Kimmel’s house band as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC) from SXSW 2015. Watson’s profile has risen considerably via appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS)\, Austin City Limits and The Sun Sessions (PBS) and as a guest on NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me. A veteran touring artist and consummate entertainer\, he is on the road more than 300 days a year. \n“I’m one of Dale’s biggest fans”– Willie Nelson

The frenetic “All Roads Lead To Los Angeles” is the first song from the album they have shared\, which hints at the breakbeats of Louis Cole as it reflects the constant barrage of stimuli that define our modern lives. \nHigh Pulp’s music is both vintage and futuristic all at once\, hinting at times to everything from Miles Davis and Duke Ellington to Aphex Twin and My Bloody Valentine. The songs on ‘Pursuit of Ends’ balance meticulous composition with visceral spontaneity\, and the performances are nothing short of virtuosic\, fueled by raw\, ecstatic horn runs ducking and weaving their way around thick bass lines and dizzying percussion. \n“Hosono and Cornelius and Panda Bear had a love child and his name was Jared Mattson” is what new touring bandmate and collaborator Tony Peppers said of Jared Mattson’s demo tapes for his forthcoming 2022 solo release\, Peanut. As the pandemic wrecking ball drama loomed over the music industry\, amidst the covid lockdowns and consumed jaunt as a twin assemblage Mattson 2\, Jared took to developing his own solo compositions in his casita in the hills of San Diego with drum machines\, synths\, a P-Bass\, and his Stratocaster inspired by the newfound domestic solitude and necessity to keep busy at his work in order to stay alive. What resulted is a tape-saturated\, bizarre blend of psychedelic guitar\, reggae induced city pop.

Being a founding member of the Runaways\, one of the first girl groups who unexpectedly broke down barriers in the punk era as well as the male-dominated world of rock music\, causing a stir with their six rebellious releases. \n\nJack Russell’s Great White represents the next phase of a legacy. Rather than look backwards and merely attempt to relive the multi-platinum hard rock entity’s storied origins\, Jack Russell set his sights on the future. In December 2011\, Jack Russell’s Great White first bared its teeth. Since its inception\, the frontman welcomed back longtime bassist and friend Tony Montana—this time as a guitar player and keyboardist—lead guitarist Robby Lochner\, and drummer Dicki Fliszar. Now\, this group has a sharp\, soaring\, and slick new album on the horizon for 2014 boasting the bluesy hard rock stomp that made Russell and Montana icons in the first place.

Special guests Leslie Rich & The Rocket Soul Choir open. \nHailing from the great Northwoods of Minnesota\, Rich Mattson and Germaine Gemberling have been writing\, recording\, and performing together since 2010. The latest incarnation of the Northstars (with longtime drummer and cohort Keely Lane and bassist Kyle Westrick) released their 5th album “Skylights” in February of 2021 to rave reviews and high praise from the indie rock/americana/jangle-core crowd. With influences ranging from the Byrds\, Neil Young\, Petty\, X\, and Link Wray\, the group’s original “cosmic folk” has cycled back to a more roots-rocking sound in recent years. \nThe Northstars perform all around Minnesota and beyond and have been invited to share the stage with such notable acts as the Minus 5\, the Jayhawks\, and Trampled By Turtles. Somewhat of a Minnesota music staple\, Mattson is well known for his songwriting and outstanding showmanship as well as his work with literally thousands of artists at his Sparta Sound recording studio. Another Rich Mattson and the Northstars album is due for Fall 2022 featuring new keyboardist Dan Anderson. \nLeslie Rich & the Rocket Soul Choir release The Butcher Boy\, the long-awaited follow-up to their lauded EP Kidder’s Son. Drawing comparisons to America’s most revered rock songwriters like Tom Petty and John Mellencamp\, Belfast-born Leslie Rich writes songs that are immediate and timeless\, whether singing about unrequited love\, hitting rock bottom or just finding the will to keep going in the face of extreme hardship. Together with his Minnesota-based trio\, he makes perfectly crafted pop songs that showcase the band’s tight groove and Americana-inspired harmonies\, delivering joy and optimism at a time when we need it most.

Local favorites Jeff Ray and Hurricane Harold open. \nDustin Arbuckle and Matt Woods were nominated for a 2021 Blues Music Award ~ Best Acoustic Blues Album for their debut\, self-titled release! Both have each been hard at work on the blues and roots music scene for nearly two decades. \nDustin Arbuckle was a founding member of the critically acclaimed progressive roots rock/blues act Moreland & Arbuckle\, with whom he toured internationally and released 7 albums over 15 years before the band parted ways in 2017. \nMatt Woods has been a fixture of the midwestern music community\, averaging over 100 shows per year and recording 3 albums as a solo artist and 2 with his former band\, The Thunderbolts. \nThe two have developed a strong musical chemistry based on their mutual passion for old-school blues\, especially the traditional rural styles of Mississippi and the electric Chicago blues sounds of the 1940s and 50s. Their music combines these influences with elements of gospel\, country music\, and more\, while Woods’ fiery voice and tenacious guitar playing blend perfectly with Arbuckle’s more subtly soulful singing and harmonica style to give the duo the ability to deliver it all with power and authenticity. \nAcoustic duo Jeff Ray and Hurricane Harold have been described as “Delta meets Dead with a little Zen thrown in.” They take risks with their music\, sounding both old and new at the same time.
