Coming together from across the Midwest\, Trevor (vox\, guitar)\, Griffin (lead guitar)\, Martin (drums)\, Christian (bass\, backup vox)\, Casey (backup vox)\, and Staurie (keys\, backup vox)\, have dedicated their music careers to helping create a safe space\, which is showcased in their first full-length album\, Mental Space.\n \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n\nSleeping Jesus is the dream pop project started by Nick Elstad in the small river town of Winona\, MN. The now five piece project\, featuring Tyler Steinley\, Andy Bauer\, Seamus St Clair\, and Dante DeGrazia\, is set to release their debut album\, Leave the Party Early\, on July 25; made with friend and producer Mike Noyce. The band began to find their musical voice creating this album\, splitting time during the pandemic between Winona\, Minneapolis\, Milwaukee\, and Nick’s wife’s family farm in Northfield\, Minnesota. Leaving comfortable approaches behind\, Mike helped the group tread into new sonic territory. Melancholy thoughts about leaving your twenties behind and feeling out of place are accompanied with swirling pop landscapes throughout the nine track\, 30 minute listen. This is truly the first brave step of this young band.\n \nhttps://youtu.be/GSbLgOKygJE \n\nBeemer  is an amalgamation of 5 prolific\, young Twin Cities musicians\, in the name of creating tasteful\, tongue-in-cheek\, timid rock. Formed and fronted by Hank Donato (formerly of John Chuck & the Class)\, the band includes local friends and prolific backing musicians Luke Enyeart (formerly of Chastity Brown)\, Cooper Doten (Greycoats)\, Reese Kling (The Orange Goodness) and Caleb Anderson (Aldrich). Their debut album “Jaws” is set to release in early 2023. \n—–The Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2023. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by StarTribune readers.—–The Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2023 season for our guests.Come hungry and enjoy dinner with the show!

SUMMARY:Cariah Brinaé Birthday Bash 2023
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n‘HOOK AFTER DARK’ \n\nDoors 10:00pm \nMusic 10:00pm \n21+\nGA: $12 ADV / $20 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nCariah Brinaé Birthday Bash 2023\nCariah Brinaé Performing with the Kelz Musik Band \nCameo performances by Lewiee Blaze\, Zay Starr\, & Don Wonne Hosted by Kiara Badu  \n  \nContemporary R&B singer/songwriter Cariah Brinaé started singing at the age of 6. Since 2010 she has shared her gift with the world through posting song covers online\, and performing live onstage at open mics and shows in the Minneapolis area. Now a solidified recording artist\, she connects with listeners and takes them on a passionate journey through her musical love tales & stories\, with her memorable brand of retro meeting the alt-R&B of the times.  \nCariah Brinaé has made quite the splash in the true indie music world from the moment she started releasing music. Her first ever 2019 promotional single “Last Time”\, immediately became a hit with grassroots listeners. The Audiomack streaming platform tapped it to trend on their site\, and to date it has amassed over 6\,000 organic\, unique streams worldwide.  \nWith this beginning to her music career\, audiences flocked closer to the Minneapolis singer / songwriter\, whose mezzo-soprano vocals provide a soulful invitation to the ear. Her next single\, “The Space”\, was released commercially in 2019\, and it firmly placed her arrival as one of the future acts in R&B; as it permeated through the underground & made its way to music fans of all kinds. As it grew\, the smash single was featured throughout indie media\, and as it made its rounds Cariah became a press darling. Cariah has been highlighted on music and culture blogs DOPECAUSEWESAID\, MNStandup\, Lizzie Brodie\, and broke2dope\, to name a few. “The Space” has now surpassed 10\,000 organic\, unique streams worldwide.  \nSummer 2020 brought on an active release schedule\, with singles “One & Only” (with Zay Starr) and “Sunday”\, with “Sunday” also being featured by the R&B Hype music blog\, and is approaching the 10\,000 worldwide streams mark. Cariah also featured on the “Make Love” single from Twiss Smith Productions during that time.   \nAt the top of 2021 a positive shift took place when she released the acclaimed acoustic performance version of “The Space” via her YouTube channel\, becoming the next signature song in her catalog. More people took notice in the culture\, and she gained yet even more praise and whispers from\, and around\, successful and well known entertainment & music industry folk. She sat down for a breakthrough interview with media personality Lisa Moy\, and headlined her first ever concert in Minneapolis-her 70’s themed birthday bash in May 2021\, full circle to a packed crowd at the historic Red Sea venue where she got her start in music.  \nShe featured on both Vence Julez’s “Sneaky Link” and TWAIN’s “Joliet” throughout 2021 also. She ended that year inking a new distribution deal with the invite-only platform Sparta Distribution\, powered by Warner Music Group’s 300 Entertainment. Her first Sparta release was the 2021 holiday single “Be My Christmas Love”. A remastered version of “The Space – Acoustic” was released next on January 25\, 2022 to celebrate its one year anniversary. In August\, she was announced as a recipient of the American Composers Forum’s 2022 Minnesota Music Creator Award\, on the heels of releasing her seductive single “Freak Me” (feat. BenSap Grimm).  Later that month\, she headlined for the 2nd time ever in her hometown at her An Evening With Cariah Brinaé concert at the James Ballentine “Uptown” VFW.  \nNotable airplay for her music includes Dash Radio\, the Purple Current\, which is the 24 hour stream from Minnesota Public Radio’s The Current 89.3 celebrating Prince’s musical universe of songs\, inspirations\, peers – which they call the “Purple Family Tree”\, and her personal hometown favorite 89.9 KMOJ FM. Also\, Cariah was handpicked for Bree Noble’s award winning Women of Substance Music Podcast\, which features “the best new music by Female Indie Artists”- a highly visible platform celebrating female indie talent since 2007.  \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Subhumans
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nJames Ballentine “Uptown” VFW Post 246 \n\nDoors 7:00pm\nMusic 8:00pm\n21+\nGA*: $20 ADV / $20 DOS\nTickets On Sale Friday March 24 at 10am\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nSubhumans\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWar//Plague\nCop/Out\nSurrogates\n \n\n\nSubhumans are one of the most influential bands from the UK Anarcho-Punk scene of the 80’s\, filed right alongside Crass and Conflict\, and just as relevant today as they were during the darkest days of Thatcher’s Britain. Take your choice in how to label them – Punk\, UK82\, Crusty\, etc\, – there lies the attraction and consequent reason for their popularity\, the band epitomizes non-conformity and connects with people in many different scenes. \n\n—\nForming in 1980\, recording and releasing a series of live and demo cassette tapes on their own Bluurg label\, they continued to release music throughout the 80’s – building a powerhouse of a back catalog that completely stands the test of time. Their debut LP ‘The Day the Country Died’ (1983)\, with its Orwellian influence\, is considered by many to be a classic and has sold in excess of 100\,000 copies. The second album\, ‘From the Cradle to the Grave’\, came swiftly the following year (1984)\, and although the same frenetic pace is in evidence\, this marks a significant musical development for the band. In 1985 Subhumans broke up\, citing the usual musical differences\, although had managed to release a third\, maybe ironically entitled\, LP ‘Worlds Apart.’ A final EP was released posthumously in 1986\, ‘29:29 Split Vision\,’ a further demonstration of how far the band had come musically from their initial leanings. \n\n—\nDick Lucas subsequently joined Culture Shock and then formed political ska-punk band Citizen Fish in 1990\, both bands releasing many albums\, and still playing today. Subhumans had a couple of reunion shows in the nineties\, before a more permanent return for the 21st century\, including 2 major tours of the US\, the first resulting in the ‘Live in a Dive’ LP. The Subhumans then released a further studio album in 2007\, ‘Internal Riot\,’ again on Bluurg Records. The band is still passionate and angry\, illustrated by Dick saying “Being in a band is the source of most of my passion and drive! The live experience of sharing it with people keeps it ongoing\, the release of anger\, frustration and initially negative/destructive states of mind is a release from the downward spiral of keeping it all bottled up and it feels positive/constructive as a result.” \n\n\n—\n\nThe band have recently written ten new songs\, which Pirates Press Records are thrilled to be releasing\, and are embarking on a year of touring in both Europe and North America! First a split with The Restarts before a 12” of their own comes out in October of 2019! The social and political commentary of bands like Subhumans forged a path\, along with their contemporaries\, for punk to change lives and opinions around the world. Sadly the things they sang about forty years ago are largely just as important now\, sometimes more so in an age of Trump and Brexit. We can’t wait to hear more of what they have to say about the current political climate\, the immense imbalance of wealth and power\, and the causes they hold near and dear to their hearts.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkRi_9fKFOs

They’ve released eight albums of jazz including their newest\, Minneapolis Bump\, featuring all originals in the traditional style. \n—– \nMiss Myra & The Moonshiners \nMiss Myra and The Moonshiners are a formidable 5-piece swing band from Minneapolis\, MN with a fresh sound grounded in early jazz and blues. Playing original music amid a broad repertoire of classics from the ‘20s and ‘30s\, they have developed a singular style that delights audiences and dance halls with the spirit of a musical tradition at its centennial. The group has made appearances at Bayfront Blues Festival\, Fargo Blues Fest\, Sioux Falls Jazz Festival\, among others. \n—– \nSpruce Top Duo \nSpruce Top Duo is made up of Miss Myra Myra and Fitzgerald Palmer\, two guitar players on the twin cities scene with a heart for swing guitar from the 20s and 30s. From their debut performance at the Lowertown Guitar Festival in August of 2021\, Miss Myra and Fitzgerald Palmer have become a vintage guitar sensation\, playing for block parties\, composing music for silent film\, and have even been featured in a promotional video for the famed Carter Vintage Guitars in Nashville. \n—– \nTrevin Roming\n \nTrevin Roming is a local San Antonio musician who plays with a variety of bands in town; most prominently with the Dirty River Jazz Band\, and his own group The Trad Police. He developed a love for jazz and ragtime at an early age\, and majored in music at UTSA. He specializes in the music of Jelly Roll Morton\, Louis Armstrong\, and (of course) Fats Waller. His high energy playing and mastery of stride piano will keep you on your toes!\n—– \nThe Beaujolais Sisters \nSinger\, choral composer/arranger\, and choir director Randi Grundahl Rexroth took the deep dive into figuring out the amazing intricacies of the harmonies of the Boswell Sisters upon the first moment she heard one of their records fifteen years ago. She formed the Beaujolais Sisters\, and in their hands the music of the “Bozzies” comes to life. \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Over the years\, their style and sound has constantly evolved without changing the core value of their performance ability. With musical influences ranging from every which way\, Timisarocker prides itself in not sounding like anyone or anything else. As a band\, Timisarocker creates music that crosses many different genres in hopes to get their songs stuck in your head. They are all about breaking down barriers and advocating for those who suffer from mental illnesses\, hoping that their music brings them peace of mind and reassures them that they are not alone. \nGrrrlstomp (formerly known as Riotgrrrldarko) is a 24-year-old self-announced Lady Rager. Born and raised in Minneapolis\, Minnesota\, Darko pushes boundaries bringing a fresh grunge and gritty sound with explicit lyrics to match. The artist proclaims the genre as Grime Core music; often consisting of frenetic trap drums and 808s combined with a hypnotic synth stab to create most instrumentals. Clever verses resolve undeniably catchy hooks\, putting a whole new spin on the classic ’90s “Riot Grrrl” movement. Riotgrrrldarko proves that women don’t always have to be perfect and poised to get the attention they deserve! \nObiora Obikwelu\, otherwise known as Obi Original\, is a Nigerian producer & artist. Being surrounded by music all his life\, he finds inspiration from all genres\, yet fiercely believes that Africa is the home of music\, causing him to form Ozone Creations. The thought of creating a home for Afro-Fusion within the United States has been a dream for him and he is ecstatic to show the world what he and others are capable of creating. \nGhost Kitchen is a cool indie band from Minneapolis\, MN.

The station went on the air in 1978 with studios located in Walker Church and has been the voice of the community ever since. KFAI is curating an evening of music and fun for this birthday bash.\n \n\nThe Muatas (Ayanna and Cam Muata) are a duo that writes\, produces\, and performs their own music. Their style is a mix of post-punk\, trip hop\, dark wave\, shoe gaze\, and electronic with a mixed sound of sampled and programmed beats\, layered with synthesizer\, guitar and bass guitar\, ambient strings\, and vocals that often range between the melodic and spoken.\n \nThe Real Chuck NORAD is a Minneapolis based musical group providing a soundtrack to a dystopian future we deserve. They try on the music of bands they like because it’s fun. They also like playing songs for the future that they  write on their own spaceship. Band members include Chris Hepola drums\, Paul Perez percussion\, Josh Granowski bass\, Albert Perez guitar\, Matty Harris tenor\, Nathan Berry trumpet/trombone\, and Jenna Wyse vocals.\n \nMad Mojo Jett is an All-Star party-rock\, garage-trash\, doom-pop quartet from Minneapolis. The band features Mady and Monet from The Toxenes\, Joe from Low Rats\, and Eric from JettKick. \n\n=======The Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2023. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by StarTribune readers.—–The Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2023 season for our guests.Come hungry and enjoy dinner with the show!\n

He represented the fourth generation of country music’s most legendary family — hence his nickname\, “IV” — and the pressure to launch his own career was enormous. Although Coleman would eventually make his mark with Southern Circus — the genre-bending debut from his band\, IV and The Strange Band\, combining southern storytelling and country textures with 100-watt guitar amps and DIY attitude — he needed to break free first and discover his own musical approach along the way. Southern Circus is his homecoming: an album that finds him not falling into a legacy\, but earning it. \nDJ Dan Lansing is a curator\, promoter and rock n roll DJ who has gone mental and lived to tell the tales. \nThis show is brought to you in part by REAL PUNK RADIO
