This hot club is an all string jazz ensemble with la pompe rhythm guitar\, upright bass\, and the lively improvisation of a solo guitar and violin. Staying true to the 1930s hot club sound\, MHC also adds a healthy spread of modern twists. During a live set\, you can expect them to play romantic ballads\, American jazz standards\, European folk\, and science fiction theme songs. This troupe is sure to get you swinging with their virtuosic style and expert arrangements. Their latest album\, Swing Cities\, tips its hat to the Twin Cities swing dance scene\, and to the cities around the world who keep the traditions of gypsy jazz and swing alive and vibrant as ever. \n“Mississippi Hot Club has become one of the Midwest’s preeminent string bands. Originally an homage to French Gypsy Jazz\, the quartet’s music has begun to take on a more eclectic\, adventurous persona as other influences have crept into the palette.”-Twin Cities Jazz Fest \nGypsy Mania “Hot Club” Quartet\, a Twin Cities-based swing jazz band\, performs a timeless jazz tradition commonly known as Gypsy Jazz\, a blend of traditional Roma music and swing jazz. Originating in Paris in the early 1930s\, the ‘Hot Club’ jazz tradition brings back happy memories of the swing jazz era\, and for all an opportunity to nod\, tap\, or hit the dance floor. Their music keeps audience members on the edge (or out) of their chairs with the band’s formidable improvisational prowess\, and exceptional stylistic dimension. A group not to be missed! Performing over 16 years\, the ensemble includes the unmistakable mastery of jazz violinist Gary Schulte\, the diverse guitar styling of Glen Helgeson\, the tasty refined work of acoustic bassist Steve Pikal\, and the rhythmic sensibility of jazz drummer Nathan Norman. Their self-titled CD\, Gypsy Mania “Hot Club” Swing Jazz (2009)\, offers spontaneous and vivid performances in the Django Reinhardt tradition and includes savvy originals by guitarist and bandleader Glen Helgeson. \nThe Red Hot Django Peppers bring jazz manouche into the future with their fiery\, unique take on the genre. Consisting of Dr. Ryan Piccone on lead guitar\, Ian Stenlund on rhythm guitar\, Danny Lentz on violin\, and Sean Roderick on Bass. With each member hailing from a different musical background\, this music gets a unique treatment with thrilling surprises at every performance. Bernard is the guitar-slinging\, singer/songwriting son of Luther Allison\, a true legend of Chicago blues history. The album is Number 1 on the Billboard Blues Album Charts.\n \nLike his father\, the Paris-based Allison is an energetic showman\, a prolific recording artist\, and a road warrior who sometimes performs 250 dates a year. His playing style incorporates vintage and modern Chicago and Texas blues\, along with R&B and roots-rock. \n \nWhile still in grade school\, he accompanied his father to blues festivals where he met Muddy Waters\, Hound Dog Taylor\, and Albert King. In addition to honing his skills as a young artist with his father and other legends\, Bernard furthered his chops under the tutelage of Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan. \n\n \nA lifelong musician who soaked up blues traditions during his youth in Chicago\, he later followed his dad to Europe\, became the leader of the Luther Allison Band and eventually made his own way\, creating exciting new sounds for a new generation.\n \nAnyone who’s ever attended a Bernard Allison concert or listened to his recordings knows how much it means to him to keep his father’s musical legacy alive. “I made a promise since day one – to myself and to my mom Fannie Mae Allison – that I’d always include at least one or two of my dad’s songs on every album I record\,” he says. Bernard has delivered on that promise throughout his career\, performing Luther’s songs both at concerts and on record\, while forging a funky and more rock-oriented style that differs from the traditional blues he grew up around. His dad supported him while he was still finding his own musical voice\, openly encouraging him to “play it how you feel it” rather than copy what came before. \n\n \nThus\, on Luther’s Blues\, you’ll hear Luther’s songs reinvented for the 21st century by a member of the blues generation that followed him. They’re not necessarily Luther’s most famous tunes; when putting together any new album\, says Bernard\, he often goes for “songs that were overlooked on each [of my father’s albums] and then put my own twist on them.” \n\n \n“With a devout reverence to his father’s musical genius and legacy\, Bernard Allison captures the original energy and power of his father’s music\, and yet adds his own distinct sound\, making each song wholly new with vibrancy and passion.”   Indie Pulse Music\n  URL:https://noboolpresents.com/event/bernard-allison/ LOCATION:The Hook and Ladder Theater\, 3010 Minnehaha Ave\, Minneapolis\, MN\, 55406\, United States CATEGORIES:Concerts,Hook & Ladder Theater ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://noboolpresents.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/240412-Hook-BernardAllison-2160x1080-Eventbrite.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20240412T200000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20240412T233000 DTSTAMP:20261101T081824 CREATED:20240326T222146Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240326T222146Z UID:2611-1712952000-1712964600@noboolpresents.com SUMMARY:Thirsty River\, Bark Point\, and Ross Thorn DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n \n\n\n \n \n\n \n \nThe mission room at The Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 8:00pm :: Music 8:30pm \n21+ \nGeneral Admission: $10 Advance / $15 Day of Show\n \n\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n \n \n\n \n \nThirsty River\, Bark Point\, and Ross Thorn\n\nA night of folkin around with a bunch of freaks strummin’ and pickin’ bluegrass! \n \n\nThirsty River: A band of 5 funky freaks strummin and pickin on acoustic instruments. \nBark Point: Bluegrass/Folk band from Minneapolis\, Minnesota. \nRoss Thorn: Folkin’ around in Duluth\, MN.  URL:https://noboolpresents.com/event/thirstyriver-barkpoint-rossthorn/ LOCATION:Hook and Ladder Mission Room\, 3010 Minnehaha\, Minneapolis\, MN\, 55406\, United States CATEGORIES:Concerts,Mission Room ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://noboolpresents.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/TTR_BP_4.12_COVER.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20240412T210000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20240413T010000 DTSTAMP:20261101T081824 CREATED:20240306T191153Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240306T191153Z UID:2536-1712955600-1712970000@noboolpresents.com SUMMARY:Chango and 7L (Minneapolis debut) | Aboy M80 and Abyss DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n \n \n\n \n \nUptown vfw \n\nDoors 9:00pm\nMusic 9:00pm\n21+\nGA: $20 ADV / $25 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n\nChango and 7L (Minneapolis debut) | Aboy M80 and Abyss\n\n \nJoin us in welcoming Chango and 7L to Minneapolis! Kung Fu can refer to any discipline or skill achieved through hard work and practice\, not necessarily martial arts. These double drum hippies have been playing across the Midwest since 2001! \nLolo’s Ghost \nFor over ten years\, the music of Lolo’s Ghost has been heard on countless stages in the Twin Cities area. The leader and songwriter of this band of gypsies is James Loney\, a Twin Cities musician for over 30 years who’s recorded at Paisley Park Studios and even had Hollywood knock on his door. Their live show is the heart and soul that makes them a great band. James has surrounded himself with the cream of the crop musicians. Members in the band also belong to other top bands in the area like the Flamin’ Ohs\, Run Westy Run\, Curtis A\, The Steeles…. \nTom Freund \nOver the course of his career\, singer/songwriter and Americana artist Tom Freund has released more than a dozen records\, collaborated with legends such as Elvis Costello and Jackson Browne\, pulled a half-decade stint on bass for alt-country pioneers The Silos\, and has shared bills with everyone from Matthew Sweet to Guided by Voices. \n“Tom Freund is indeed one of the great singer- songwriters. He constructs a unique world\, defines it\, and then burns it to the ground. Truly unique and absolutely brilliant.” –All Music Guide \nIt’s the ease with which he delivers conversational lyrics and honeyed melodies\, a natural magic that is the soul of Tom Freund’s music. Though he’s widely-traveled in a variety of genres– from hearftelt folk to buoyant pop to boho jazz to straightforward rock ’n’ roll\, and beyond –Freund is\, simply put\, a singer-songwriter with a defined and captivating presence. \nMark Joseph \nAmerican Soul is a fitting brand for Mark Joseph; since his 2017 album by that title\, he has charted a relentless and soulful course through America\, and Americana\, from blues to country to psychedelic rock and everything in between. On his newest offering\, “Palisade Peach\,” Joseph’s fourth full-length album\, he continues this journey\, from his soul\, straight to your heart. It is a “blues” album in the truest sense of the word\, with familiar 12 bar strains that echo the march of American music from the rural southern US up the Mississippi\, to cities like Minneapolis and Chicago where it found a wider urban audience; it is the blues that has given rise to “rhythm and blues\,” to “soul” and to “rock and roll.” You find it all on “Palisade Peach.” \n  URL:https://noboolpresents.com/event/bens-foodshelfdrive-celebration/ LOCATION:The Hook and Ladder Theater\, 3010 Minnehaha Ave\, Minneapolis\, MN\, 55406\, United States CATEGORIES:Benefit,Concerts,Food Shelf,Hook & Ladder Theater ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://noboolpresents.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/240426-Hook-BEN-KFH-LOLO-2160x1080-Eventbrite-2.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20240426T220000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20240427T013000 DTSTAMP:20261101T081824 CREATED:20240408T221809Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240408T221809Z UID:2630-1714168800-1714181400@noboolpresents.com SUMMARY:BIZARRE Dance Party DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n \n\n\n \n \n\n \n \nJames Ballentine “Uptown” VFW Post 246 \n\nDoors 10:00pm\nMusic 10:00pm\n21+\n$5 Advance  / $10 Day of Show\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n \n \n\n \n \nBIZARRE Dance Party\nDJs: D.frequency\, Jim Frick\, & DJ Girl Blunt\n—— \n\nBIZARRE at the Uptown VFW is a unique dance party that brings together house music and techno\, creating an unconventional and energetic atmosphere for attendees to enjoy. Regardless of what ended up happening between Strung Out’sprevious record—2019’s Songs Of Armor And Devotion—and this new collection of songs\, it was always the band’s intention to step away from themselves a little bit with it. Although Dead Rebellion—the band’s 10th album of their remarkable 35 year career—was written during the height of the pandemic and is\, as all Strung Out albums have been\, a reaction to the world at large and their own personal experiences within it\, the band had already decided to end that chapter before Covid. A new beginning had long been in the works.—-New York City based street punk band The Casualties originally formed in 1990. Since then the band has released a number of EP’s & LP’s on various labels. In 1996 the Casualties became the first American band to appear at the “Holidays in the Sun” Festival in London. 1997 saw the release of the band’s debut album For the Punx. In 2017\, it was announced that original frontman Jorge Herrera had officially retired from touring. As of 2022\, the band consists of members Jake Kolatis (guitarist)\, Marc Meggers (drums)\, Doug Wellmon (bass)\, and David Rodriguez (vocals).\n—-Whether you’re looking for the slick hardcore punk musicianship of shredding guitars\, pounding bass and thunderous drums or the oft-inspiring message of a band capable of bringing generations of punk rockers together the Venomous Pinks are very much what the present and future look like. These ladies will rock your world in every room of the house\, clear out to the parking lot. While their energetic stage performance exhibits a “work hard and play harder” mentality\, this tight\, punchy three-piece’s unapologetic style will ravage your ears with their mix of punk and hardcore.
