Featuring guitarist Nick Cassarino\, bassist Nate Edgar and drummer Nikki Glaspie\, the seasoned trio delivers a transcendent blend of soul\, funk\, rock and rhythm and blues. Multi-part vocal harmonies and elevated musicianship inspires audiences to dance\, groove\, make love or just stand there with goose bumps. \nThe Nth Power’s electric live performances have been flooring audiences ever since the group first aligned in New Orleans during Jazz Fest. After the band’s breakout 2013 EP\, Basic Minimum Skills Test\, The Nth Power went on to release two acclaimed studio albums and two live albums – garnering national coverage in Relix\, Modern Drummer\, Huffington Post\, Glide\, Consequence\, Okayplayer\, Paste and Sirius XM Radio.\n \nThe trio’s individual music credentials include collaborating with artists like Beyonce\, Snarky Puppy\, Maceo Parker\, Dumpstaphunk\, Big Daddy Kane and John Brown’s Body. “It’s my dream team\,” said bandleader and drummer Glaspie. “Each one of us is a songwriter\, so when we get together\, everything becomes that much stronger. Formed from University of Minnesota jazz circles\, the band has grown steadily since their 2017 debut EP Morsels\, evolving through constant gigging\, recording\, and deep musical chemistry. With a dual guitar attack\, tight rhythm section\, and standout horn work\, their live shows are built for movement and energy. \n——————The Burroughs have spent the last decade evolving from a soul cover band in Greeley\, Colorado into a powerhouse 9-piece known for their signature “sweaty soul music” and electric live shows. Led by frontman Johnny Burroughs\, whose vocals and stage presence drive the room into a full-on frenzy\, the band delivers tight grooves\, blazing horns\, and a rhythm section built to move bodies. ——————The BZ3 Organ Trio stands as a high-octane powerhouse that injects a modern\, edgy funk aesthetic into the classic organ trio format. Together\, they defy simple categorization\, seamlessly fusing jazz\, deep funk\, soul\, and R&B with a commitment to dynamic\, spirited improvisation. Known for their impassioned live performances and a focus on collective chemistry—a “symbiotic whole”—BZ3 has been aptly described as “Two Parts Elegant\, One Part Savage\,” delivering sophisticated musical journeys punctuated by undeniable\, feel-good grooves that honor the legacy of the genre while driving it toward an exciting future.——————Hipshaker MPLS | Heavy Funk & Rare Soul Dance Party with DJs Brian Engel\, Greg Waletski\, George Rodriguez spinning Original Vinyl 45s!\n\n———\n\nThank you to our sponsors\, partners\, & neighbors: \nSummit Brewing • RKR Ganja Beverages • Nobool Presents • KFAI 90.3FM • Mpls.St.Paul Magazine • The Zen Arcade • Longfellow Rising • Firehouse Perfroming Arts Center • Lake Street Council • Moon Palace Books • Arbeiter Brewing\n\n \nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2025.\n \nThe Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2026 season for our guests. Known for their legendary residency at Lee’s Liquor Lounge and their infectious\, good-time energy\, the band has earned a reputation as Minnesota’s premier honky tonk outfit. Over the years they’ve racked up multiple Minnesota Music Awards\, released six albums\, appeared in films\, and become the soundtrack to countless dance floors\, celebrations\, and late-night barroom memories across the Midwest.\n \n\nJack Knife & The Sharps\, led by the exceptional vintage guitar playing of Rick Hollister\, is one of the leading rockabilly bands playing in Minnesota today. Formed in 1984\, Hollister is joined by long-time producer and engineer\, Jeff Bjork on drums and Scotty Christianson on upright bass. Rockabilly and roots music fans enjoy Rick Hollister’s precise\, deep-toned guitar sounds and right-on-the-money vocals and find the relentless rhythms from the bass and drums to be irresistible. Jack Knife & The Sharps’ primary musical style is rockabilly\, although they blend different musical styles with ease and artistry. The Combo will be performing a FULL night of music from these two iconic funk artists. \nWorld renowned Dr. Mambo’s Combo has been performing weekly at Bunkers Music Bar & Grill since 1987 — one of the longest running weekly residencies anywhere in America. The band quickly became Prince’s favorite — playing soul\, rock\, and r&b music with unmatched passion and fire – and audiences have flocked to their weekly performances ever since. In addition to Prince\, many national touring artists often stop by to sit in with the band after their own show —including John Mayer\, Sheila E\, Questlove\, Stokley\, Larry Graham\, and Bonnie Raitt. \nDr. Mambo’s Combo’s ‘Let Me Have it All’ features a diverse collection of songs across the many eras and styles of these amazing trendsetting artists. Sly Stone rose to popularity with Woodstock era hits ‘Everyday People’ & ‘I Want to Take You Higher’\, and took a surprise turn in the early 70’s with the genre defining funk of ‘Family Affair’ and ‘If You Want Me to Stay’. \nRufus and Chaka Khan were one of the most popular and influential funk bands of the 1970s\, with four consecutive number-one R&B albums\, ten top 40 pop hits and five number-one R&B singles including ‘Tell Me Something Good’\, ‘Sweet Thing’ and ‘Ain’t Nobody’. \nThe current band lineup features Julius Collins and Margaret Cox on lead vocals\, Sonny Thompson on bass\, Brian Ziemniak on keys\, Geoff LeCrone on guitar and Peter Suttman on drums. Joining the band for this special performance are The Bangbang Horns (Peter Vircks & Riley Helgeson). \n========================= \nAFTER-PARTY – 10PM Inside Theater(Included with Ticket)=========================BLACKFISH MOVEMENT
A Kaleidoscopic Collision of Rock\, Funk and Soul \nFrom gutsy to raw\, to smooth and enticing\, Blackfish lays down lyrics with finesse and vocal soul. This rockin’ quartet is considered one of the torch bearers of American roots music. \n \nSince forming in 1988 in Southern California\, Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys have become one of the world’s most beloved Americana/Roots acts\, drawing from the deep musical waters that flow just beneath the surface of Rock & Roll’s fertile soil. A childhood passion for Country\, Doo-Wop\, and Rhythm & Blues 45s led Sandy (born Robert Williams) to pursue a singing career as a teenager\, beginning a life in music that continues decades later. And as his personal record collection continues to grow (75\,000 and counting)\, so does the depth of the musical influences that stream through his songwriting and singing style. A critically acclaimed tribute to Tex-Mex hero Freddy Fender\, released at the beginning of the 2020 lockdown\, points the way forward for Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys as they continue on a path of musical growth. After nearly 35 years on the road\, and more than two dozen releases to their credit\, they remain key figures on the ever-changing Americana circuit\, both on record and in live appearances.\n \nExcerpt: – \nSouthern California legends Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys roll into town and return to the Hook for a swingin’ evening!  The authentic Rockabilly Hall of Fame band always delivers the goods.

The band’s name came to Hinnefeld in a dream\, before their first gig\, reflecting the cosmic\, boundary-breaking sound they’d soon deliver. Later joined by Jake Evatt on keys/vocals and Justin Clark on drums\, the Bloomington-based quartet has since evolved into one of the country’s premiere touring acts. \n\n \nCritics have called Dizgo “one of the most operative names in the jam band scene” and “Indiana’s psychedelic powerhouse\,” blending the adventurous spirit of jamtronica with the deep-pocket pulse of funk\, the warmth of soul\, explosive guitar\, and the kaleidoscopic textures of psychedelic rock. Their live shows are immersive journeys – a dance party and mind-trip rolled into one. Interweaving soulful vocals\, analog synths\, and searing guitar complete with intricate compositions and extended improvisation. The result is something both danceable and introspective: a dance floor where heads and hearts move in equal measure. \n\n \nDizgo’s touring resume reads like a true music lover’s bucket list – standout sets at Peach Music Festival\, Summer Camp\, Secret Dreams\, Domefest and Sonic Bloom\, alongside club and amphitheater performances supporting Goose\, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic\, lespecial\, Dogs in a Pile\, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong\, and more. Their 2024 studio album “Melt” crystallized their ethos: when everything locks in\, the band and the fans “melt into one collective unit\,” channeling energy between themselves and the crowd in a feedback loop of groove. \n\n \n\n\n\n\nFrom your local venue to the biggest festival stage\, Dizgo creates a communal experience – one where genre is merely a suggestion\, the band and the fans are a living organism\, and every note is a step further down the rabbit hole.—Hot Like Mars are Chicago’s funkiest\, most soulful rock band – a jam-funk quintet built on airtight grooves\, fearless improvisation\, and songs that stay with you long after the house lights come up. Fronted by vocalist/keyboardist A.P. (Anthony Perry) alongside guitarists Pat Walsh and Frankie “Lightning” Minella\, bassist Lamontè Norwood\, and drummer Wes Julien\, the band has carved out a fast-rising lane of their own\, blending classic soul and R&B textures with modern jam-band firepower and a deeply collaborative vocal sound.\n\nSince launching in late 2023\, Hot Like Mars have evolved from a buzzy hometown secret into a national touring act\, pairing online virality with a surging ticket footprint. Early Chicago milestones – a packed residency that moved more than 1\,000 tickets\, and supporting sold-out headlines at The Metro and Park West for Andy Frasco and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong – laid the foundation for an ambitious run of touring across the Midwest\, Rockies\, and East Coast. Their 2025 campaign included a breakout set at Northlands Music & Arts Festival\, a multi-date Colorado swing\, and a first-ever East Coast run capped by a sold-out night at Charleston’s Pour House\, underscoring their reputation as one of the most exciting young live bands in the jam and funk worlds.
