Pianist Ari Nahum has been collaborating with bassist Jim Pacala for the past 17 years and will be joined by the sensitive\, prominent Twin Cities drummer Ken Goldman.\n—The Jazzologists are a jazz ensemble born in the halls of Regions Hospital in Saint Paul\, Minnesota\, where five physicians first came together to play music in the lobby during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the hospital eerily quiet amid shutdowns\, Stephen Jackson (trumpet)\, Ashish Mahajan (saxophone)\, Ari Nahum (piano)\, Judson Pollock (bass)\, and Scott Loewenstein (drums) discovered that playing together offered a creative outlet they sorely needed. What began as informal sessions to fill the silence has since evolved into a serious musical collaboration\, with the group deepening their commitment to the craft. The Jazzologists bring the same precision\, listening\, and trust that define their work in medicine to every note they play together\n\n\n—– \n\nThe Zen Arcade\nCheap Drinks\, Tasty Food & NO to Low CoverCover only applies to the live performance area. Patrons always welcome to enjoy the patio and lounge. *With ID \nThe Zen Arcade Music Lounge is inside The Hook and Ladder Theater. Blending classic rock\, indie\, and alternative influences\, they play a mix of covers and original material\, focusing on strong live energy and evolving songwriting. \n\n \nSince starting to perform in January\, they’ve played venues across Minneapolis and St. Paul\, quickly building a growing local following. The band plans to record their first demos this summer\, including original tracks like Juicy Lucyand Minnesota Lakes\, which lean into symbolic and metaphorical storytelling. \n\n \nStill early in their run\, Tainted Canyon is focused on developing their sound and establishing themselves in the local scene.\n\n\n—YES WE ARE is a genre-blending band creating songs that embrace the full spectrum of the human experience. The band is fronted by vocalist Dylan Bode and multi-instrumentalist Reed Knutsen\, who work hand in hand to write and compose the music and lyrics. \n\n \nThe music they create channels different perspectives and emotions\, acknowledging all that we are as individuals – yes we are kind\, yes we are mean\, yes we are happy\, yes we are sad\, we can be helpful\, and we can also hurt each other. \n\n \nTheir debut EP\, Into This Garden\, released on November 14\, 2025. It’s an initial statement from the band that their music creates a place where everybody is welcome. The album uses the metaphors of garden themes to take the listener along a path of important personal moments to reach a place of belonging.

With influences ranging from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits\, the band is converting audiences one show at a time\, from Vancouver to Miami and across Europe.\n \nMuch like the music\, the story spurns era\, expectation\, and classification. The often unbelievable\, sometimes harrowing\, and wholly inspiring journey of Davina Sowers gave birth to her eponymous band Davina and The Vagabonds in 2004. As the tale goes\, she grew up in the economically depressed Allegheny town of Altoona\, PA\, which she now describes as “awesome in the industrial era\, but horrible for high school.” She was adopted by her much older stepfather when he was in his 80s; he passed away when she was just 13. Through him and his Edison phonograph\, she first heard The Ink Spots\, Sidney Bechet\, Louis Armstrong and Louis Prima\, Sister Rosetta Tharpe\, and many others. “Great man. He was my angel and still is\,” she says.\n \nOn her own\, she vividly recalls hours in front of the record player where she religiously spun Led Zeppelin\, Black Sabbath\, and Simon and Garfunkel records belonging to her folk singer mom.\n \nTo this day\, Davina still refers to music as “my first and eternal love.” Despite early dalliances with classical piano and guitar\, she developed a heavy drug habit in high school\, which morphed into heroin dependency\, left her homeless\, sent her in and out of jail\, and brought on all manner of trouble. Kicking dope on the streets\, she “got clean\, started the band\, and worked [her] ass off every day since.”\n \nDavina and the Vagabonds shine every time they play. To date\, they’ve performed in forty-five states\, twelve European countries\, and two Canadian provinces. Not to mention\, they’ve earned feverish acclaim from the Chicago Tribune\, NPR\, and more in addition to performing on BBC’s international favorite late-night program Later… With Jools Holland and appearing on PBS’s Bluegrass Underground.\n \n“Davina and the Vagabonds combat heartache with sugar and sass.”  DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE\n\n \n\nThank you to our sponsors\, partners\, & neighbors: \n\n\nSummit Brewing • RKR Ganja Beverages  • Tito’s Handmade Vodka • Jameson Irish Whiskey  • High Noon • Lucky One Lemonade • Nobool Presents • The Zen Arcade  • Longfellow Rising • Lake Street Council • KFAI 90.3FM • Firehouse Perfroming Arts Center • Moon Palace Books • Arbeiter Brewing   \n\nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2025.\n \nThe Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2026 season for our guests. Tom ‘Bones’ Malone and The Northside Horns \n\nSTEALING DAN ~ The Music of Steely Dan \n\n—\n\nAmerican Soul is a fitting brand for Mark Joseph; since his 2017 album by that title\, he has charted a relentless and soulful course through America\, and Americana\, from blues to country to psychedelic rock and everything in between. On his newest offering\, Palisade Peach\, Joseph’s fourth full-length album\, he continues this journey\, from his soul\, straight to your heart. It is a “blues” album in the truest sense of the word\, with familiar 12-bar strains that echo the march of American music from the rural southern US up the Mississippi\, to cities like Minneapolis and Chicago where it found a wider urban audience; it is the blues that has given rise to “rhythm and blues\,” to “soul” and to “rock and roll.” 2025 will see the release of his 5th full-length LP\, Baddest Man in Georgia.\n \n\nMark has also been a full-time member of legendary MN Jam act The Big WU for 14 years and is a founding member of The Dire Wolves and Momentary Lapse of Floyd. \nTom ‘Bones’ Malone is a legendary horn player best known for his role in The Blues Brothers band\, appearing in both the original band lineup and the iconic films. A true multi-instrumentalist\, Malone has performed on trombone\, trumpet\, saxophone\, tuba\, flute\, and more\, bringing his powerhouse brass sound to decades of recordings\, television\, and live performances alongside some of music’s biggest names.\nSteeling Dan has been a fixture on the Minneapolis music scene since 2002. Specializing in the music of Steely Dan and Donald Fagen\, this 13-piece band spans the complete range from flawless execution to unique reinvention. For any true music fan\, the music of Steely Dan needs no introduction. Renowned for their impossibly perfect production value\, complex and cynical songwriting style\, and a who’s-who of A-list session musicians coloring their albums\, the brainchild of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker has set a high standard in the oeuvre of modern music.\n\n\n \n\nThank you to our sponsors\, partners\, & neighbors: \n\n\nSummit Brewing • RKR Ganja Beverages  • Tito’s Handmade Vodka • Jameson Irish Whiskey  • High Noon • Lucky One Lemonade • Nobool Presents • The Zen Arcade  • Longfellow Rising • Lake Street Council • KFAI 90.3FM • Firehouse Perfroming Arts Center • Moon Palace Books • Arbeiter Brewing   \n\nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2025.\n \nThe Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2026 season for our guests. Multi-part vocal harmonies and elevated musicianship inspires audiences to dance\, groove\, make love or just stand there with goose bumps. \nThe Nth Power’s electric live performances have been flooring audiences ever since the group first aligned in New Orleans during Jazz Fest. After the band’s breakout 2013 EP\, Basic Minimum Skills Test\, The Nth Power went on to release two acclaimed studio albums and two live albums – garnering national coverage in Relix\, Modern Drummer\, Huffington Post\, Glide\, Consequence\, Okayplayer\, Paste and Sirius XM Radio.\n \nThe trio’s individual music credentials include collaborating with artists like Beyonce\, Snarky Puppy\, Maceo Parker\, Dumpstaphunk\, Big Daddy Kane and John Brown’s Body. “It’s my dream team\,” said bandleader and drummer Glaspie. “Each one of us is a songwriter\, so when we get together\, everything becomes that much stronger. With a dual guitar attack\, tight rhythm section\, and standout horn work\, their live shows are built for movement and energy. \n——————The Burroughs have spent the last decade evolving from a soul cover band in Greeley\, Colorado into a powerhouse 9-piece known for their signature “sweaty soul music” and electric live shows. Led by frontman Johnny Burroughs\, whose vocals and stage presence drive the room into a full-on frenzy\, the band delivers tight grooves\, blazing horns\, and a rhythm section built to move bodies. ——————The BZ3 Organ Trio stands as a high-octane powerhouse that injects a modern\, edgy funk aesthetic into the classic organ trio format. Together\, they defy simple categorization\, seamlessly fusing jazz\, deep funk\, soul\, and R&B with a commitment to dynamic\, spirited improvisation. Known for their impassioned live performances and a focus on collective chemistry—a “symbiotic whole”—BZ3 has been aptly described as “Two Parts Elegant\, One Part Savage\,” delivering sophisticated musical journeys punctuated by undeniable\, feel-good grooves that honor the legacy of the genre while driving it toward an exciting future.——————Hipshaker MPLS | Heavy Funk & Rare Soul Dance Party with DJs Brian Engel\, Greg Waletski\, George Rodriguez spinning Original Vinyl 45s!\n\n———\n\nThank you to our sponsors\, partners\, & neighbors: \nSummit Brewing • RKR Ganja Beverages • Nobool Presents • KFAI 90.3FM • Mpls.St.Paul Magazine • The Zen Arcade • Longfellow Rising • Firehouse Perfroming Arts Center • Lake Street Council • Moon Palace Books • Arbeiter Brewing\n\n \nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2025.\n \nThe Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2026 season for our guests.
