SUMMARY:The Minnesota Musicians Concert Series
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook AND LADDER THEATER \n\nDoors: 7:00pm \nMusic: 7:30pm\n21+\nGA*: $5 EARLY / $10 ADV / $15 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nMinnesota Music Coalition & The Hook and Ladder Presents:\nWhalen and the Willows\, Art Vandalay\, & Abha K.\n\n\n\nHook & Ladder Theater and Minnesota Music Coalition come together to feature amazing Minnesota talent across a variety of genres. Join us monthly (Every 4th Thursday) to catch some of your favorites as well as some musicians you may not have seen yet!\n \nWith a focus on lyrics Whalen writes tales pulled from life experience and observation. Pain\, suffering\, hope\, and love are common motives looking to strike an authentic balance of the struggles and joys of life. The band uses melody\, rhythm\, and harmony to conjure an experience that is truly greater than the sum of its parts. Whalen and the Willows are a master class on soul and authenticity.\n \nArt Vandalay is a Twin Cities-based band (and sometimes solo moniker of songwriter Brandon Henry) that blends the vintage sounds of The Band and the modern vibe of The Black Keys\, creating a laid-back “Americana sound with a sprinkling of folk\, pop\, and jazz” (Mostly Minnesota). \nTheir latest album\, Champagne & Chandeliers has been hailed as a “sonic feast” (The Norman Transcript). Capturing Art Vandalay’s retro-rock sound\, the album is the perfect companion to a late-night drive and taking the long way home. The songs explore the choices made at every crossroads and how life speeds up and slows down–from the slow groove of “Traffic” to the rocking closer “If You Love Me.”  \n\nWith loose energy\, smart lyrics\, infectious grooves\, and a vibey Americana spirit\, Art Vandalay has become a fixture of the midwest Americana scene.\n \nAbha K. is a Minneapolis-based musician who brings her R&B/Soul sound to her community. She released her first single\, “Waves” in 2020 and it quickly made Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist. Following that\, she released an EP in 2021 and has over 100\,000 streams. You can catch her on stage in the Twin Cities area as well as visits to Chicago\, St. Louis\, and more. For booking inquiries\, direct message her social media accounts. Check out her newest singles\, released 08.19.2022 and 09.02.2022!\n===== \nThe only statewide nonprofit devoted exclusively to serving our independent musicians\, the Minnesota Music Coalition (MMC) is responsible for providing resources\, support and paid performance opportunities to artists of all genres.

SUMMARY:The Steepwater Band “Re-Turn Of The Wheel” Album Release
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:00pm\nMusic 7:30pm\n21+\nGA*: $10 ADV / $15 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n“Re-Turn Of The Wheel” Album Release \nThe Steepwater Band \n\nplus Joe & The Mechanics\n \n\nReal rock ‘n roll is alive and well. The Steepwater Band from Chicago are about to unleash their rockin’ sounds with an album release party at The Hook.  Upcoming St. Paul band Joe And The Mechanics kick the night off. \nRe-Turn Of The Wheel is a companion piece to the band’s previous record Turn Of The Wheel which came out at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately\, they were never able to properly support it with live shows. The new release features eight newly recorded tracks plus an acoustic version of the title track. \n\nIf the old saying about talent equaling success were true\, then The Steepwater Band would already be a household name\, rubbing shoulders with other like-minded travelers in our collective Rock ‘n Roll Fantasy. \n \nThis band leans into it\, smiling\, with everything in them\, not for brass rings and marquees\, but because they must! For them\, the music lifestyle is a calling and not some stupid costume one puts on to shake loose gold\, fame\, and groupies. In a land of caricatures\, it’s striking to come face-to-face with the real thing. And\, The Steepwater Band is the real thing!\n \n“Not only do these longhairs know their Johnny Winter and their Johnnie Walker\, they sure as shootin’ dish it out in a nuclear hoedown of dirty fuzztone lead and slide guitar riffs.” Creem Magazine\n\n\n\n\n

Once thought of as a niche novelty Marxist outfit\, the band has grown so much and is now swinging for the fences with its fifth and most ambitious album\, The Honor and Glory of The Gated Community (official release in 2023). Based in the Twin Cities and formed in 2006 in Minneapolis’s storied West Bank neighborhood\, The Gated Community is known for beautiful harmonies\, multiple lead singers\, virtuosic soloists\, and gripping songs. They are incredibly proud to bring this album into the world after the collective traumas of the past three years—including the pandemic\, George Floyd’s murder and the subsequent Uprising\, and the rise of fascism in America. Join The Gated Community for an evening of powerful music that will stir your spirits.\n \nAdvance CD + digital download copies of the album will be available for sale at the show!\n\n \n\n\n\n\n

Russ\, bassist Mike Lane\, and ace guitar wizard Steve Brantseg (Suburbs\, Bash and Pop\, Phones) went up to the Iron Range to Rich Mattson’s Sparta Sound studio in 2021 to lay down basic tracks\, augmented by guest appearances from John Eller and Peter J. Sands (keys) and Katie Gearty and Colleen Martin-Oake (vocals).   \nSeriously\, Dan’s 17th studio release\, offers up pointed and poignant commentary for troubled times\, with hooks aplenty and some new and surprising turns and twists.\nDan’s pals\, the always entertaining St. Dominic’s Trio (featuring Terry Walsh and other members of The Belfast Cowboys)\, kick off the party with rowdy versions of Van Morrison songs along with other rock gems from a wide-variety of artists.\n\n\n\n\n

Through the ‘70’s and ‘80’s\, LRB enjoyed huge chart success with multi-platinum albums and chart topping hits like: “Reminiscing\,”  “Cool Change\,” “Lonesome Loser\,” “The Night Owls\,”  “Take It Easy On Me\,”  “Help Is on Its Way\,”  “Happy Anniversary\,”   “We Two\,”  “Man On Your Mind\,”  “The Other Guy\,”  and “It’s A Long Way There.” Worldwide album and CD sales now top 30 million. And in 1982 LRB set a record for having had Top 10 hits for 6 consecutive years – In fact\, they were the very first band to achieve that remarkable plateau! Bringing their vocal and musical energy along with great arrangements to their timeless classic hits\, each show creates new memories for the audience.  The band enjoys watching their fans fall in love with the songs all over again as they are swept up by the show’s powerful performance and the volume of hits from LRB’s history. With over 100 dates scheduled or being scheduled for their 2021-22 tour\, Little River Band is hotter than ever – selling out shows and making music from coast to coast – continuing their legacy of being “the best singing band in the world.” https://reallittleriverband.com\n \nThe 70’s Magic Sunshine Band is a high-energy live concert experience that plays the biggest top 40 AM radio hits from the 1970s\, tailor-made to fill the dance floor! Cindy herself has regrouped with a new band and recently released a smoking’ new EP.   https://www.facebook.com/cindy.lawson.545\n \nThe 99ers have been pumping out melodic punk/pop rock for over a decade. As well as playing live shows across and beyond the Twin Cities\, The 99ers have released five albums on Spinout Records. They love playing live because “punks just wanna have fun”. They have 3 rules as a band: KEEP IT SHORT !!  BANG IT OUT !!  NO MESSING ABOUT !!   https://www.facebook.com/The99ers\n \n \nFor the last 10 years\, The Silverteens have thrived by combining ’60s-influenced Garage Rock with their own hard-charging brand of Punk/Power Pop. The band members — mainstays on the local scene since the 1980s — include Terry Isachsen (Flamin’ Oh’s)\, Steve Olson (Laughing Stock)\, Jerry Johnson (MezzoFist)\, and Mark Engebretson (The Whole Lotta Loves). https://www.facebook.com/TheSilverteens\n\n\n\n \n\n\n

He represented the fourth generation of country music’s most legendary family — hence his nickname\, “IV” — and the pressure to launch his own career was enormous. Although Coleman would eventually make his mark with Southern Circus — the genre-bending debut from his band\, IV and The Strange Band\, combining southern storytelling and country textures with 100-watt guitar amps and DIY attitude — he needed to break free first and discover his own musical approach along the way. Southern Circus is his homecoming: an album that finds him not falling into a legacy\, but earning it. \nMinneapolis locals Pleasure Horse play beer-soaked country music with heartbreak\, twang\, a little Tex-Mex and a little rock n’ roll.\n \n\n\n\n\n

Biram / Joseph Huber\n\n\n\n\nScott H. Biram aka The Dirty Old One Man Band is an American blues\, punk blues\, punk\, country\, heavy metal musician\, record producer\, and ordained minister. His music has been featured in many television shows and films\, and he has appeared on national television shows such as NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He has also appeared as himself in several films and documentaries. The Dirty Old One Man Band has continuously toured in the U.S.\, Canada\, and Europe since 1998. \nJoseph Huber hails from the state of Wisconsin\, and seems to bring forth the varied voices of whatever it may be that lies dormant within either the fertile soil or the callous concrete of that world. It has been said\, “You don’t just like Joseph Huber’s music. You feel it’s something that the rest of the world needs to hear\, and how criminal it is that it isn’t spreading far and wide.” That sentiment could be related to the fact that the voices which Huber unearths are subtle and take more than a hurried listen to truly absorb. A person who appears reserved and matter-of-fact in everyday speech brings forth songs that are anything but that. \n\n\n7:00 – Doors \n7:30 – Joseph Huber\n8:45 – Scott H. Biram \n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:An Evening with Jim Lauderdale
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder mission room \n\nDoors 7:30pm\nMusic: 8:00pm\nGA Seating  $35 ADV / $40 DOS\nSRO (Standing Room Only): $25 ADV / $30 DOS\n21+\nTickets On-Sale Friday\, Oct 7 at 10am\n \n \n\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nAn Evening with\nJim Lauderdale\nAt any given time\, you’re likely to find Jim Lauderdale making music\, whether he’s laying down a new track in the studio or working through a spontaneous melody at his home in Nashville. And if he’s not actively crafting new music\, he’s certainly thinking about it. “It’s a constant challenge to try to keep making better and better records\, write better and better songs. I still always feel like I’m a developing artist\,” he says. This may be a surprising sentiment from a man who’s won two Grammys\, released 34 full-length albums\, and taken home the Americana Music Association’s coveted Wagonmaster Award. But his forthcoming album Game Changer is convincing evidence that the North Carolina native is only continuing to hone his craft. \n \nOperating under his own label\, Sky Crunch Records\, for the first time since 2016\, Lauderdale recorded Game Changer at the renowned Blackbird Studios in Nashville\, co-producing the release with Jay Weaver and pulling from songs he’d written over the last several years. “There’s a mixture on this record of uplifting songs and\, at the same time\, songs of heartbreak and despair—because that’s part of life as well\,” he says. “In the country song world especially\, that’s always been part of it. That’s real life.” \n \nLauderdale would know: He’s been a vital part of the country music ecosystem since 1991\, when he released his debut album and began penning songs for an impressively long roster of country music greats. “When I was a teenager wanting to be a bluegrass banjo player\, I never would have imagined that I would get to work with people like Ralph Stanley and Robert Hunter and George Jones and Elvis Costello and John Oates\,” he muses. “Getting to work with them inspires me greatly to this day\, and I know it always will.” \n \nFrom rollicking guitar riffs on “That Kind of Life (That Kind of Day)” to the slow\, sweet harmonies of “I’ll Keep My Heart Open For You\,” Game Changer shows off Lauderdale’s ingenuity as a singer\, songwriter\, and producer—while reestablishing him as one of Americana’s most steadfast champions.  “Country music is constantly evolving\, but I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for steel guitar and a Telecaster\,” he says. “I have done my job on this record if people who love classic country feel like they can put it on\, or have it in their collection\, and it would fit right in.”\n \nRespecting the past doesn’t mean he’s not breaking new ground. “We’re All We’ve Got\,” a co-write with Mary Gauthier and Jaimee Harris\, offers a timely message about healing torn relationships at home and across the world. And “Friends Again\,” a grinning number about rekindling a friendship\, is fresh and forward-looking. At every turn\, Lauderdale’s collaborative spirit and genuine love for the creative process reveal themselves in thoughtful\, well-crafted songs sure to stand the test of time. “When everything works right\, it’s just magical to be able to hear them back\,” he says. “You feel\, at least for those three-and-a-half minutes\, like life makes sense.”\n\n\n\n \n\n\n

I’m Dixieland Delighted to announce a side project with my band we’ve been working on. An Alabama Tribute called “Songs Of The South”. We’ve had an Alabama medley in our set for quite some time that we love to perform and audiences enjoy. I’ve always admired Alabama’s timeless down home songs and sweet harmonies and thought it would be great to put together an entire set of their music. It feels right at home when we sing one of their many hits and fits right in our wheelhouse with all the vocal harmonies. Adding to the band\, I’ve recruited a top notch fiddle/utility musician to get the full Songs Of The South sound.\nBe on the lookout for this Alabama tribute show taking the stage across Minnesota and the Midwest and come on out and sing along to some Mountain Music and all the songs you know and love.
