SUMMARY:Billy Iuso
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n‘Hook after dark” at The Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 9:30pm\nMusic 10:00pm\n21+\nGA*: $15 ADV / $20 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nBilly Iuso\n\nWhen a music maker finds their calling\, little can stop them from sharing their gift. It’s the passion for the song\, the fire in the music\, the drive to make other people smile that keeps musicians going even through the toughest times. It’s what motivated Billy Iuso for the past 30+ years of playing\, what saved him during the pandemic\, and what has encouraged him to stay singing.  \n \nLike many other musicians during the challenging year that was 2020\, Iuso turned to live streaming and eventually had a weekly show that earned him enough tips from his generous fans to compare with his regular income. He ended up playing over 350 different songs during this series\, including a whole slew of new tunes that sparked a new record.   \n \nFeaturing songs like “My Getaway” and “More to the Island\,” it’s easy to see how this album was lockdown-inspired. But he also had a chance to reach back in his catalog and revamp tunes from his teens\, like “Shine On and Look Inside\,” which indeed became apt for the time.  \n \nThe new album features the legendary Reggie Scanlan (The Radiators) on bass\, long time drummer Eddie Christmas (New Orleans Suspects)\, and Joe Ashlar on keys\, with additional vocals by Sari Jordan and Renée Gros.  \n \nAs a New York native\, Iuso spent his first decade in music playing with his band Brides of Jesus. Growing from the jam-driven Wetlands scene\, they were touring with the likes of Blues Traveler\, Widespread Panic\, and Dave Matthews Band. After an opportunity to open for the Funky Meters\, Iuso’s new friend George Porter Jr. convinced him to move to the Big Easy .   \n \nIuso found his stride when he moved to New Orleans in 1996. Five years later\, BOJ released their last record and disbanded. During a break from performing\, Iuso was a Tour Manager for the Meters\, Neville Brothers\, and George Porter Jr.\, cementing those lifelong friendships & learning the business from the other side of the stage. Missing playing his own music\, he formed Billy Iuso & the Restless Natives in 2002. \n \nIuso continued recording new music under his name and touring with Restless Natives as his band. He released a number of records including “Trippin\,” which found itself on rotation at New Orleans WWOZ Radio. Over 10 years later\, “Trippin’ Over Dragons” is still regularly requested and heard on local stations.   \n \nRestless Natives played many festivals and events until 2021\, when Iuso decided to drop the band name entirely and streamline both the sound and the band. Now billed simply as Billy Iuso\, he plays with many of those band members as well as other friends and heavy hitters in the New Orleans music scene.\nhttps://billyiuso.com/

Vinyl records before the show and between sets by America’s most dangerous DJ duo: DJ Rock The Monkey \nAgent Orange are the true pioneers of surf punk\, and one of the truly enduring bands in the West Coast punk community. Formed in Placentia\, California in 1979 by guitarist Mike Palm\, The band name was a dual reference to the notorious defoliant used in Vietnam and the group’s home in California’s Orange County. \nThe Toxenes formed in 2016 by guitarist Monet Wong and bassist Ariel Dornbush after a 5 year run as L’Assassins came to a close\, soon they found their ultimate new band mate in ex-Devil Baby drummer Madalyn Rowell. The gals have released several records and toured the USA and Europe. They stay active despite Ariel relocating to Nashville in 2019\, and Mady and Monet remaining in the Twin Cities. \nLow Rats is a garage-punk-rock-and-roll group with landlocked surf rock undercurrents. The tunes are steeped in Nuggets\, and their roots are planted in 80s punk.

SUMMARY:Kristine’s 70th Bday Bash Cabaret
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 6:00pm\nMusic 7:00pm\n21+\nGA*: $15 ADV / $20 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nKristine’s 70th Bday Bash Cabaret\n\n\nThe Hook & Ladder Theater is very proud to present a special evening with the return of Patrick’s Cabaret to 3010 Minnehaha Ave! This special performance event is celebrating the 70th birthday of ‘the fairy-godmother’! \n \nThis show will feature cabaret-styled performances by some artists near and dear to her\, including; The Fireroast Mountain Boys\,  Isabella Ebbighausen and Quinn Kaufman\,\nDakota Dave Hull\,\nMary Moore Easter and \nPatrick Scully\n \nFor this cabaret\, to honor her turning 70\, the Fireroast Mountain Boys will present a sample of their original tunes\, jazz/rock/folk standards and/or whatever the birthday girl wants. The Fireroast Mountain Boys are Tim Gustafson\, Dick Danaher\, David West\, Steve Sandberg and Don Browne. They are a band of Minneapolis Southsiders\, known for their unique instrumentation\, eclectic songwriting and variety of covers.\n \n\nIsabella Ebbighausen and Quinn Kaufman originally met during a contortion class at Xelias Aerial Arts School. Through their shared love of circus\, visual arts\, and (strangely) advanced mathematics\, contortion and acrobatics\, they will show some of the many ways that the art of circus can manifest.\n\n\nHailed by everyone from Dave Van Ronk to Doc Watson\, from the Washington Post to Downbeat\, Dakota Dave Hull’s guitar style spans a wide musical geography to create an infectious\, uniquely personal blend of jazz\, ragtime\, folk\, blues\, Western swing\, and vintage pop. Dakota Dave is a restlessly curious\, adventurous traveler along the broad highway of America’s music. In his playing the masters speak\, but in a vocabulary that is Dave’s alone: alternatively mirthful and moving\, always melodic.\nA gifted composer as well as a strikingly original interpreter of older tunes\, Dave calls what he does “classic American guitar.” Folk legend Van Ronk called Dave “one of the best guitarists in the world.”\n \n\n\nMary Moore Easter reading  poems and other writings. Mary is a writer\, dancer\, choreographer\, teacher\, mother\, grandmother….  Appearing in this cabaret as a poet\, Mary danced a long time and still does a bit. She established the dance program at Carleton College\, where there is now a dance studio named after her. Her collection\, The Body of the World\, was a Finalist for the Minnesota Book Award in Poetry 2019. She also performed at Patrick’s Cabaret way back in the early days! She’s a recipient of a 2020 MN State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant for Free Papers: poems\, a chapbook\, (soon-to-be-performance) sprung from the testimony of Eliza Winston\, an enslaved woman who escaped to freedom in Minnesota in 1860 Free Papers has been accepted for publication by Finishing Line Press.\nMost recently\, her poetry was featured in a concert\, From the Flutes of Our Bones\, an evening of eight premieres by MNSong Composers\, performed by eight MN Duos\, highlighting her poetry.\n\nRecognizing that the fairy godmother has generally found modern dance to be inscrutable\, Patrick Scully will present Remy Charlip’s Ten Imaginary Dances. He will also be the Master of ceremonies for this special home-coming evening. \n \nPatrick Scully is a Minneapolis based choreographer/dancer and performance artist. He began dancing in 1972 as a college freshman. In 1976 he co-founded Contactworks\, a Minneapolis based dance collective focused on contact improvisation. In 1980 he left Contactworks in search of a way to bring his voice as a gay man into the work he was creating. This eventually led him to Remy Charlip’s Naropa East workshop in 1984\, Meetings with Remarkable Women. That led him to dance with Remy\, beginning with Remy’s Ten Men show in BAM’s Next Wave Festival in 1984. In his heart\, and daily life\, Patrick is still dancing with Remy. Patrick’s most current project is Leaves of Grass – Illuminated\, about Walt Whitman. In addition to his performing work\, Patrick was the founder and long time director of Patrick’s Cabaret\, in Minneapolis. \nMore complete information is available at www.patrickscully.org

Let’s dance! \nGenre-bending original music form the Midwest! Feed the Dog melts and swirls bluegrass\, jam\, rock\, folk\, Americana\, and soul. Hold on to your face and get ready to tap your toes.. https://feedthedogband.com/ \nDust from the years of performing with many groups and musical styles has coalesced to form Buffalo Galaxy. Each member brings with them a tradition of Bluegrass and American music as their bedrock. Buffalo Galaxy embarks to explore deep space with lightspeed bluegrass. The gravity of their songwriting pulls at our humanity\, while time becomes relative when improvisations and jams atomize\, allowing the listener to float weightless in  musical space. Bringing a mass of energy that only time can accumulate\, Buffalo Galaxy burns bright in the bluegrass universe! https://www.buffalogalaxy.com/ \nNearing eight years and five-hundred shows together\, the ever-evolving Americana outfit Gin Mill Hollow has been showcasing their unique approach to string-band music throughout the midwest and beyond. Born as an acoustic duo at the Up North Bar in Madison\, Wisconsin\, the group found traction in the area after adding mandolin and eventually percussion to the mix. As a four-piece band\, Gin Mill Hollow’s performances sound more like a rock show\, often with electric guitar and effected mandolin solos soaring over driving rhythm and harmony. Blending genres like bluegrass and folk with jazz and blues\, the live experience is enhanced by an engaging lighting display\, syncing the aural and visual senses. https://www.ginmillhollow.com/  \n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n

He began releasing his own albums of roots-drenched music in 2000 and would go on to spend the next two decades amassing a litany of critical acclaim as he worked his way up from playing street corners and tattoo parlors to sharing bills with luminaries like Ray Charles\, Etta James\, Dr. John\, and Mavis Staples. When he’s not on the road\, La Botz can be often be found onscreen (he’s appeared in everything from True Detective to On The Road and even starred in the stage musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County\, written by Stephen King and John Mellencamp) or teaching meditation in prisons\, Buddhist Centers\, and living rooms around the country. \n \nBalancing the wisdom and patience of two decades of Buddhist training with the grit and vigor of a rough and tumble Chicago upbringing\, Jake La Botz’s captivating new album\, Hair On Fire\, is at once unabashedly vintage and decidedly present. The writing is raw and direct\, cutting straight to the heart of things with honesty and urgency\, and the performances are similarly unvarnished\, fueled by lean\, spacious arrangements centered around La Botz’s well-worn vocals. Add it all up and you’ve got a spiritually enlightening dose of American roots-noir from a master of the craft\, an alternatingly dark and hopeful collection that wears its soul on its sleeve as it ruminates on compassion and vulnerability\, strength and surrender\, growth and redemption. \n \nOver the years\, Jake’s work has been praised by Rolling Stone\, World Cafe\, No Depression\, Folk Alley\, Atwood Magazine\, American Songwriter\, PopMatters\, Glide\, Bluegrass Situation\, and many more.\nhttps://www.jakelabotz.comhttps://www.facebook.com/jakelabotzfanpagehttps://twitter.com/reeljakelabotzhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxJvxE7SY4VjN-e-EZ7khww/videoshttps://www.instagram.com/jakelabotz/\n\n\n\n\n

The crowd response was so overwhelmingly positive that radio deejays started spinning it and an enterprising record distributor bootlegged it\, selling 80\,000 copies in ten days. By May of 1966 “Hanky Panky” was the number one record in Pittsburgh and Tommy James was a sensation. Tommy James promptly followed “Hanky Panky” with two more million selling singles – “Say I Am (What I Am)” and “It’s Only Love” – and the Hanky Panky album\, which went gold just four weeks after its release. With three hits under his belt\, Tommy brought in producers Bo Gentry and Ritchie Cordell\, and the three produced seven back-to-back smash singles: “I Think We’re Alone Now\,” “Mirage\,” “I Like The Way\,” “Gettin’ Together\,” “Out Of The Blue\,” “Get Out Now\,” and the party rock rave-up “Mony Mony.” The Gentry/Cordell/James team also produced three platinum albums.\n \nReleased in early 1969\, it went multi-platinum\, and spawned two more monster hits: “Do Something To Me” and “Crystal Blue Persuasion.” A fourth song from the LP\, “Sugar On Sunday\,” rose high on the charts in a cover version by The Clique. Tommy followed up the Crimson and Clover album with Cellophane Symphony\, which featured the newly developed Moog Synthesizer and included yet another Top Ten single\, “Sweet Cherry Wine.” Tommy James was on a roll! Not only did the total sales of his four 1969 hits top those of the Beatles that year\, his second volume of greatest hits – The Best Of Tommy James and The Shondells (featuring “Ball of Fire”) – also appeared and ultimately sold over 10 million copies.\n \nTo date\, Tommy has sold over a hundred million records sold worldwide\, and has received five BMI “Million Air” awards in recognition of 22 million broadcast spins of his songs. Today Tommy is still rockin’\, performing his many timeless hits to sellout crowds across the country\, and celebrating his 50th year in the music business by recording a new album.\n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n
