The band was born out of a desire to play technically challenging music derived from John’s influences ranging from Mahavishnu Orchestra\, The Dixie Dregs and King Crimson\, to name a few. Wright enlisted the aid of guitarist Dan Neale\, who brought to the table many deep Jazz influences in his advanced playing and composing style. Along with the band’s first drummer\, Mark O’Day\, the beginnings of Galactic Cowboy Orchestra were found. Soon after\, violinist (and John’s wife) Lisi Wright joined the band with her aggressive “electric guitar player plays violin” style and engaging stage presence to complete the band’s sound and look. Fast forward 16 years: 6 studio releases (and one live)\, 3 Downbeat Nominations\, a Minnesota Arts Tour Grant\, collaborations with symphony orchestras\, thousands of miles of touring and the band is just getting started.  \n\n \n2025 sees the GCO with a new studio release and a stronger than ever commitment to create the ultimate musical moment between the players and the audience with their Art Rock/Jazz Fusion creations.\n \nOVRFWRD is a four piece American band that plays instrumental progressive rock. They were formed in Minneapolis\, Mn in 2012 with drummer Richard Davenport\, guitarist Mark Ilaug\, bassist Kyle Lund and keyboardist Chris Malmgren. They came together with diverse and complex backgrounds with heavy musical influences from 70’s Prog Rock to the Jazz Rock genres. Their music is an adventurous listening experience with many paths of sonic textures and soundscapes to explore. OVRFWRD has performed and toured with King’s X\, Stick Men featuring Pat Mastelotto and Tony Levin of King Crimson\, John 5\, and in 2018 was the featured new band at North Carolina’s ProgDay Festival. Together the members of OVRFWRD have a common goal; to create\, perform and push forward their unique brand of powerful and engaging instrumental music.

This may include but is not limited to: professional recording opportunities\, vinyl pressing\, transportation needs\, theft replacement or merch. \n\n\n \n\n\nGrant recipients will be determined by a revolving panel of respected Minnesota musicians.  One grant to be made in memory of Ed Ackerson and one in the name of Paul Engebretson.  Musicians helping musicians.\n\n\n=============\n\n\nThe Suburbs are closin g in on fifty years and have continued to evolve and create up to the present. From Jay’s Longhorn to stirring up the foam on the new wave\, the Suburbs continue to bring the dance to the party.  The Twin Cities has produced more than its share of highly influential rock and roll bands. The Suburbs are counted as royalty. \n\n\n—\n\n\nScott Holt hails fro m Columbus\, TN and his guitar has taken him all over the world and to its most iconic venues. Beginning his career as Buddy Guy’s side man\, Holt spent many years touring and recording under his own name.  For the past three he has fronted the iconic blues rock band Foghat. Scott will be joined on stage by his friends The Shackletons and will host an evening ending jam session with festival participants. Scott Holt of Foghat.\n\n\n—\n\n\nThe Melismatics are the long t ime project of husband and wife team Ryan and Pony Smith (Soul Asylum/Mood Swings).  While much of their work has been featured on TV and film\, it’s as a live band that they truly shine. When this band plays\, other artists come to the show! \n\n\n—\n\n\nSleeping Jesus is the brain  child of indie rocker Nick Elstad. Hailing from Winona\, MN the band and name are synonymous with Midwest Music Fest. \n\n\n—\n\n\nOister Boy is about  as quintessential punk as Minnesota gets. It is what it is but it’s also\, dare we say? Nice. If punk should be anything\, it should be an unblinking reflection of where the band comes from. Oister Boy is us. \n\n\n—\n\n\nDevon Worley Band might be country . And it might be straight up rock and roll.  Doesn’t matter.  What matters is this is a road worn band that brings the heat. \n\n\n—\n\n\nLoki’s Folly. Speaking o f punk\, this is where it starts. Don’t let the ages fool you! This 3 piece sibling wrecking ball has been going since they were single digits.  Along the way\, they’ve been mentored by a Who’s Who of local heavyweight artists who saw something special. \n\n\n—\n\n\nThe Shackletons are the second  family band on the bill and are hosts for the day’s festivities. \n\n\n—\n\n\nYonder lays  claim to being one of the buzziest of the basement scene bands in the Twin Cities. They might claim to be a local band but they came together from one end of the state to the other\, each with some serious band pedigree. \n\n\n—\n\n\nProducts Band may call the mselves New-No Wave but most people simply know them as a guitar drenched rock band mixing cynicism and brains.
