Local indie pop band KYM and the Kick invites you to celebrate the release of their energetic freshman album “The Gift of Feeling.”  This ten-track album is the band’s ode to feeling deeply in a culture that suppresses our feelings at every opportunity. Supported by Alonzo and Poison Ivy and the People\, this night is for lovers of queer pop and art as resistance! \n \nKYM and the Kick is a cheeky\, queer indie pop band from the Twin Cities\, MN. After releasing their EP ‘Not 4 U’ in 2020 under the band’s solo name\, KYM and the Kick step into their new era with equally danceable indie pop tracks. KYM’s dreamy vocals and layered harmonies are well-complemented by their band’s funky bass lines\, dynamic drum fills\, and 80s synth pop melodies. \n \nAlonzo is 3 friends who like to have fun. Their sounds range from bossa nova\, easy listening to disco to incidental television music. They enjoy being the wallpaper for any good-time event. From a beginner to an advanced listener\, Alonzo has something for everyone.\n \nPoison Ivy And The People is a five piece theatrical rock band based in Minneapolis\, MN\, and fronted by Ivy (aka Charleigh Wolf). Themes of mental illness\, profound existentialism\, big questions about the world\, and social change give listeners an inside view into Ivy’s abstract inner monologue. Ivy’s extensive background in theatre lends itself to highly dramatic performances that captivate audiences and leave them thoroughly entertained.

Their emotionally charged\, high energy performances are not to be missed. \nDavey has also toured extensively as a solo artist and as keyboardist for rock hall of famer Eric Burdon. In addition\, he has toured as a member of the San Francisco rock band The Stone Foxes. \n“Scrappy string-based freak-folk\, featuring songs like ‘Meat Raffle Mambo\,’ ‘Wisconsin Saturday Nights’ and ‘Jesus Shaves’ that both revere and good-naturedly poke fun at state culture — [The Driftless Revelers] may remind listeners of Lou and Peter Berryman or even the old Free Hot Lunch! band.” –Isthmus Magazine\, Madison\, WI. \n”It’s a little ‘out there’: Driftless Revelers release American Fork Standards –Volume One Magazine\, Eau Claire \n“Jack Black ran so these guys could stumble” — Nick\, Announcer at Sol Grass Music Festival 2024 \nThe Driftless Revelers formed in the second spring of the first global pandemic of the 21st century\, with one ear turned toward the shellac platters and Victrola virtuosos of the early to mid 20th century\, and the other ear glued to the soundscapes of the 1960’s & 1970’s American freak-folk scene. \nSince their debut tour in 2021\, the band has billed with Grammy winning bluegrass legends like Tim O’Brien & the Gibson Brothers\, toured extensively throughout the Upper Midwest performing with other amazing artists like Big Richard\, Willy Tea Taylor\, and had breakout performances at several festivals and events (Sol Grass Music Festival\,  Mile of Music in Appleton\, WI. featured in Rolling Stone Magazine). \nThese Eau Claire\, Wisconsin based weirdos have earned a cult following of devoted fans from Minnesota to Michigan who appreciate their irreverent\, highly original\, and sometimes slightly psychedelic interpretation of American roots music with a Midwest twist. Their live show banter and thoroughly entertaining sets have earned them comparisons to Ween\,  Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show\, They Might be Giants\, Tenacious D\, Cheech & Chong\, and the Holy Modal Rounders. Their debut record\, American Fork Standards (2022)\, was well received by their family members\, and a few other people who said nice things about it. Their most recent record\, Live at the Slowpoke Lounge & Cabaret (2024) captures the band’s deadpan comedy and musical chops in a lounge environment that demands a proper listen in a leisure suit with a scotch & Pall Mall.

Caitlin’s writing straddles the feelings of open prairie skies and hurried metropolitan energy.\n \n*Splash!*: With heartfelt\, literary lyrics and captivating melodies delivered in a soaring tenor range\, *Splash!* brings you musical reflections inspired by philosophy\, mysticism\, and spiritual practice. His unique warmth provides a balm for your weary soul.\n \nDitch Pigeon: Ditch Pigeon (Hayley Anne) has been actively performing for several years as a solo artist and a part of bands. With influences ranging from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits\, the band is converting audiences one show at a time\, from Vancouver to Miami and across Europe.\n \nMuch like the music\, the story spurns era\, expectation\, and classification. The often unbelievable\, sometimes harrowing\, and wholly inspiring journey of Davina Sowers gave birth to her eponymous band Davina and The Vagabonds in 2004. As the tale goes\, she grew up in the economically depressed Allegheny town of Altoona\, PA\, which she now describes as “awesome in the industrial era\, but horrible for high school.” She was adopted by her much older stepfather when he was in his 80s; he passed away when she was just 13. Through him and his Edison phonograph\, she first heard The Ink Spots\, Sidney Bechet\, Louis Armstrong and Louis Prima\, Sister Rosetta Tharpe\, and many others. “Great man. He was my angel and still is\,” she says.\n \nOn her own\, she vividly recalls hours in front of the record player where she religiously spun Led Zeppelin\, Black Sabbath\, and Simon and Garfunkel records belonging to her folk singer mom.\n \nTo this day\, Davina still refers to music as “my first and eternal love.” Despite early dalliances with classical piano and guitar\, she developed a heavy drug habit in high school\, which morphed into heroin dependency\, left her homeless\, sent her in and out of jail\, and brought on all manner of trouble. Kicking dope on the streets\, she “got clean\, started the band\, and worked [her] ass off every day since.”\n \nDavina and the Vagabonds shine every time they play. To date\, they’ve performed in forty-five states\, twelve European countries\, and two Canadian provinces. Not to mention\, they’ve earned feverish acclaim from the Chicago Tribune\, NPR\, and more in addition to performing on BBC’s international favorite late-night program Later… With Jools Holland and appearing on PBS’s Bluegrass Underground.\n—\n“Davina and the Vagabonds combat heartache with sugar and sass.”  DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE \n\n \n\nThank you to our sponsors\, partners\, & neighbors: \nSummit Brewing • DuNord Social Spirits • RKR Ganja Beverages • Nobool Presents • KFAI 90.3FM • Mpls.St.Paul Magazine • The Zen Arcade • Longfellow Rising • Lake Street Council • Minnesota State Arts Board • Moon Palace Books • Arbeiter Brewing\n\n \nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2025. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by Star Tribune readers.\n \nThe Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2024 season for our guests. SUMMARY:TELEPORT 004 - An Evening of Psychedelic Chillout Music: Ancient Fruit\, Squig\, Kitten Candy
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Zen Arcade Stageat The Hook and Ladder’s Mission Room \n\nDoors 8:30pm :: Music 9pm :: 21+\n$10 Box-Office /  $12.16 Online / $15 Door\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nTELEPORT 004 – An Evening of Psychedelic Chillout Music: Ancient Fruit\, Squig\, Kitten Candy\n— \nThis installment of Teleport differs from the previous ones in a few ways. For one\, Teleport 004 will feature ambient and downtempo music. I have long thought that a showcase of psybient and psy chillout music would be very worthwhile. There is so much variety within this heading and so much good music that only people in psytrance world seem to know about. The music programming has departed slightly from this initial picture\, all in good ways. The entire evening will feature live performance. The artists—Kitten Candy\, Squig\, and Ancient Fruit—are all dedicated\, multitalented\, experimental artists who will bring a variety and progression that is ideal for this emerging concept. \nThe event will be in Zen Arcade at the Hook and Ladder Theater\, which is also new for Teleport. The arrangement and deco plan are being worked out (as I am still pretty unfamiliar with that space)\, as is the visual programming by Kid Cuisine (who created the beautifully tailored flyer image for this unique installment). The aim is to make the Zen Arcade feel like a chill space at a music festival—relaxing\, cozy\, and wildly engaging. \n— \nBOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available in The Zen Arcade During Hours of Operation. The station went on the air in 1978 with studios located in Walker Church and has been the voice of our community ever since. Simply sign up for your free tickets! \n— \nTufawon (2 for 1) is a Dakota/Boricua singer\, songwriter\, producer\, and teaching artist from Minneapolis. His name represents his mixed identity\, and his music is an honest reflection of his life experiences\, personal struggles\, his hopes and dreams for the future\, spirituality\, connectedness to the land\, love\, and the realities of the world. Musically\, he creates a broad spectrum of styles including Hip Hop\, RnB\, Dancehall\, Reggaeton\, and Afrobeats. Her vocal range reveals the pride of her identity as a Lakota woman. \n— \nDeanna StandingCloud is a mom\, playwright\, organizer\, artist\, community leader\, pow-wow emcee\, and advocate for Indigenous people. A member of the Red Lake Nation\, an Anishinaabe or Ojibwe tribe\, StandingCloud’s role as an emcee is just one aspect of a life that intertwines both tradition and modernity. She has been entertaining audiences for years with her humor and expressive storytelling. In addition to her individual performances Trish was a third of the nationally recognized Ojibwe Comedy Trio\, NDN Way Comedy and is currently focused on kwe comedy with Ace BAE Comedy! Twin Cities artist TWAIN top-lines a night full of indie genre variety\, spanning Hip-Hop and R&B/Soul. With support from MN artists Chozen\, Don Wonne\, FreeGod Sa’Vii\, and Thee Alanna Lynn. Music by DJ Cam Jones and hosted by Ni’Cold. Sponsored in part by CONSISTENT COSMETICS™️ \n \nTWAIN\nBorn in Chicago\, IL and raised in Joliet\, IL. TWAIN has etched out a unique lane in hip-hop & the true indie music space throughout his time as a recording artist & performer\, all after once dreaming of being in music as an adolescent. Relocating to MN a year after finally becoming a bonafide musician\, he hit the ground running in and outside of Minneapolis and Saint Paul releasing underground albums and mixtapes in the 2000s\, also doing these releases online during that time as an digital early adopter-before the advent of iTunes and the streaming era (and social media). This made for a near seamless transition into officially releasing music commercially\, his first of that type of offering being his classic 2009 album Truth or Consequences. A gripping\, personal tome with a more musical soundbed\, that album became his magnum opus. In more recent years he’s released a couple of love letter projects to his region\, the ambitious CENTRAL STANDARD TIME album in early 2020\, which includes the powerful single “Changes” (feat.
