SUMMARY:An Evening with Shannon McNally
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe MISSION ROOM AT THE HOOK  \n\n\nDoors 7:30pm :: Music 8:30pm :: 21+\n\n21+ \n\nGeneral Seating: $24\n\n\nStanding Room Only (SRO): $18 ADV / $24 DOS  \n \n\n\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n***Unfortunately Shannon McNally’s performance on November 16th has been rescheduled for Saturday March\, 22. All tickets purchased will be honored on the new date. ***\nAn Evening with Shannon McNally\nGrammy nominee Shannon McNally’s live music career began on the jam band circuit of the 1990s with bands like Derek Trucks and Railroad Earth. Since then\, her catalog has grown to span the whole of the Americana music spectrum\, both writing original songs as well as interpreting the songs of others. She brings a soul-stirring musicality to her craft. Her honest and\, at times\, elegant voice immediately grabs one by the heartstrings. Not to mention as it turns out\, she is also an exceptional electric guitar player.\n \nMcNally has fourteen albums to her name and a string of single self-releases on her personal label\, Queen Maeve Records. Her latest album\, “Live At Dee’s\,” is a career retrospective song list captured over four nights in September of 2022 with a revolving band of Nashville musicians. Showcasing McNally’s wonderful storytelling and sense of wry humor\, the 18-song disc captures her at her most relaxed in her natural habitat of neighborhood Honky Tonk. \n \nFor those who have followed McNally’s twenty-plus-year career\, the thing that sticks with listeners the most about her is the timeless effortlessness she brings to all she does. With an impressive catalog and extensive list of collaborators with whom she has written\, recorded\, and toured; McNally continues to turn out great music across wide-flung ends of the spectrum\, defying genre-fication. At home on any stage\, from Lincoln Center to the juke joints of Mississippi—she always brings the house down.

Doug Collins and the Receptionistsare once again showing their love for the mighty CCR with their tribute group Creedence Clearwater Replayed. And Brian Just and friends present their new group The Wandering Suns which highlights the greats from California – from The Byrds to Flying Burrito Brothers\, and Neil Young to Manassas. \n\n\nCalled “one of the most brilliant songwriters to emerge from the Twin Cities in nearly two decades” by Southernminn.com\,Doug Collins and his crack band The Receptionists (which includes members of the classic Minnesota band Gear Daddies)\, are highlighted in their energetic shows\, soulful singing\, and honest\, emotional songs. As Creedence Clearwater Replayed they honor one of America’s best bands. Radio DJ and music promoter Jessica Paxton says of Collins\, “He really cares about his audiences having a good time\, and he’s got a fantastic in-between song stage banter too; he’s a super funny guy and the dapperest of dressers.” \n\n\nIn 2024\, friends Brian Just\, Clay Williams\, and Kent Militzer wanted to revisit the cosmic country and harmony vocals they had enjoyed playing in their former band\, The Blackberry Brandy Boys (2011-2015). The band solidified their lineup with the additions of frequent BBB guest Dave Boquist\, Clay’s Dieselfitter bandmate Dan Peterson\, and drummer John Sandbo\, The Wandering Suns was born. \n\nDrawing inspiration from legendary artists The Wandering Suns deliver a unique blend of original compositions and cover songs that pay homage to the rich tapestry of Americana music.\n\n\n\n—\n\n\nBOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available in The Zen Arcade During Hours of Operation. SUMMARY:John Louis and Kelley Smith
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Zen Arcade Stageat The Hook and Ladder’s Mission Room \n\n\nDoors 7:00pm :: Music 7:30pm :: 21+\n\n\n$15 (Box Office) \n \n\n\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nJohn Louis and Kelley Smith\n\nSettle in for a cozy mid-winter evening of great music with two of Minnesota’s finest singer-songwriters John Louis and Kelley Smith.\n \nCountry troubadour John Louis wanders around this Twin Town of music\, writing and singing heart-worn country folk songs. John’s that guy on the bus who sits quietly\, looking tired like the rest of us. The difference is he is sitting there composing a song about your life and those painful poignant moments you dust off on the way home between life’s chores. His songs show us our lives and the subtle but important things that become universally important hallmarks of our Midwestern journey.  \n\n \nJohn glimpses it all through a poet’s heart. When he stands bravely on a stage with a guitar and begins singing\, we get to see it too.  \n\n \nThe songs John writes keep winning awards from prestigious songwriting showcases. Including the Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk competition\, Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriter Showcase\, and the Great River Folk Fest songwriter contest. (That’s some hot sh-t folks!)\n \n“Rootsy singer/songwriter John Louis [is] equal parts John Prine and Robert Earl Keen.” – Minneapolis StarTribune  \n\n \nFolksinger-songwriter Kelley Smith is a hopeless romantic who fancies old poetry and grandpa sweaters. All at once whimsical and haunting\, Smith delivers deeply affecting lyrics with wry charm and a time traveler’s voice. Prone to melancholy and daydreaming\, Kelley spent her childhood roaming the woods of Minnesota and singing to forest animals. To this day\, her longing for that landscape runs deep and seems to find its way into her songs in one way or another.\n \n Since 2022\, Kelley has had the honor of sharing stages with folks like Charlie Parr\, Dave Simonett\, Alan Sparhawk\, Wild Horses\, Kelly Hunt\, Drew Peterson\, Stephen Wilson Jr.\, Molly Maher\, and more. Most often performing solo or as a duo\, Smith interprets old folk songs on guitar and banjo\, in addition to her original music.  ”Her authentic\, rootsy sound\, falling somewhere between country\, folk\, bluegrass and old-time music\, is a pitch-perfect vehicle for the themes she explores...” – Adventures in Americana

Each with over a decade of performing in various bands\, these funky cats have been around the block in the Twin Cities music scene. They came together to form this hard-hitting group in 2017\, and continue to awe audiences with their hip-shaking\, head-banging sets. With Cat Tales\, the stank-face abounds. They infuse their funky tunes with elements of blues\, jazz\, hip-hop\, and rock\, intertwining genres within each track. With groovy bass lines\, jazzy keys\, complex time signatures\, and sultry saxophones\, they put on a high-energy show that is dripping with personality and spunk.\n \nHailing from the mountains of Montana\, Desperate Electric is a captivating soul-pop duo that brings vibrant energy and infectious melodies to the forefront of the music scene. Their soulful pop sound is infused with elements of funk\, R&B\, and disco\, resulting in a fusion of timeless melodies and modern production. With catchy hooks\, thought-provoking lyrics\, and irresistible beats\, their music is both uplifting and deeply resonant\, serving as a soulful soundtrack for life’s triumphs and tribulations. With their flashy outfits\, magnetic stage presence\, and unparalleled live performances\, Desperate Electric is a force to be reckoned with.\n \nVinny Franco and the Love Channel is a dynamic and soulful musical collective with a lineup that features a vibrant horn section and captivating background vocals. Their music is a fusion of soulful melodies\, infectious rhythms\, and powerful lyrics that tell stories of love\, life\, and everything in between. Rooted in the traditions of R&B and soul\, their sound is both nostalgic and fresh. Vinny Franco’s goal is to connect with people through honest\, emotional\, uplifting\, and most importantly\, groovy music. Expect lush harmonies\, groovy basslines\, and unforgettable hooks that will have you singing along from the very first note.\n \n100bees is a team of analog video artists that specialize in live projection visuals. They got their start over the pandemic\, exploring the abstract video genre\, racertrash. The hobby soon turned into a passion (they might say obsession)\, and they have since acquired a variety of new technology that allows them to create glitchy\, nostalgic\, music-reactive visuals that add pizzazz to any live show. They pride themselves on being almost completely analog\, using synthesizers to mix and generate sources by hand.

An open door to all. \n—2022 American Composer’s Award recipients\, “The Muatas” are a Minneapolis based duo formed in early 2019 who were voted by The Current (89.3FM) in March of 2022 as one of the best 10 bands to turn up\, following the release of the single and title track from their 3rd album\, “Battle Weary”. Their sound is highly emotive at times\, with lots of minor chords and dark ambient undertones\, with soul-stirring melodies that linger. All that\, coupled with hauntingly shadowy guitar makes for an interesting blend of post-punk\, trip-hop\, and electronic. The band is comprised of partners Cam Muata (guitar\, vocals\, synths) and Ayanna Muata (keyboards/synths\, vocals\, bass guitar) both former members of the band “Cold Front” (1990-1991) Their single\, “Something is Happening” was recognized by Punk Black as one of thirty singles by BIPOC artists that “Kicked Ass” in 2022\, and they are currently working on their 4th album release due in late 2024. \n*21+ Wristbands allow patrons to order/consume alcoholic beverages.

As noted by The Current\, LeBlanc’s music is “so delicate\, understated\, and careful in its construction that you forget it’s taking apart how to live in such an unstable world while giving solace and a place for rest.” Luke’s music has received critical acclaim from numerous music magazines\, including Bluegrass Situation\, Americana Highways\, and Glide Magazine\, and he has shared the stage with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band\, Charlie Parr\, and Grammy-Nominee Amythyst Kiah. His newest record\, Places\, was produced by Erik Koskinen and is his debut album for Real Phonic Records.\n \n\nWeeping Covenant\nBased in St. Paul\, MN\, The Weeping Covenant is headed by vocalist and songwriter\, Michael Beatrez. Writing from a lyrically driven perspective\, he generally touches on themes of hope\, vulnerability\, and love. Beatrez leans into his comfortable sweet spot by singing over soft fingerstyle guitar ballads and rock songs that drive with measured intensity. \n\n\n \n The music of The Weeping Covenant is rooted in Americana\, with pop sensibilities akin to Jeremy Messersmith\, piercing storytelling of Jason Isbell\, and spacious\, sustained vocals that melt into reverb like the ballads of John Denver.\n

After 10 years we celebrate a new album from Jason Streitz. If the weather is nice we can open up the garage door and hang inside and under the stars! \nJ Streitz and the Long Odds \nWhile playing bass in several Minneapolis bands spanning over two decades\, Jason Streitz quietly wrote country\, bluegrass and folk songs in his spare time. These songs\, along with a handful of new tunes would become the foundation for The Long Odds. Operating now as J Streitz and the Long Odds\, the band has completed their second full length album. Light Again was recorded at Zoo School Studio in St Croix Falls\, WI and is set for release in August of ‘24. \nJ Streitz and the Long Odds have shared the stage with a wide range of national and regional acts including Sarah Shook and the Disarmers\, Nathan Kalish\, Invisible Boy\, Kind Country\, Gabe Barnett and Them Rounders\, Bruise Violet\, Jay Lenz (Pert Near Sandstone) at prominent midwest venues such as The Parkway Theater\, Turf Club\, Icehouse\, Lee’s Liquor Lounge\, The Cabooze\, Como Dockside Pavilion\, The Aster Café and Brickyard Pottery. \n““Traces of early Uncle Tupelo and Jayhawks trickle into this fiddle-spiked Twin Cities alt-twang quintet’s promising debut album “Level Ground”\, recorded at Pachyderm Studio with a guest spot by Yonder Mountain’s Allie Kral” \n— Chris Riemenschneider – STAR TRIBUNE—————The Union SuitesThe Union Suits are an original midwestern Americana band from Minneapolis\, MN via rural Wisconsin. Stepping in to fill the shoes of regional country heroes Redwing Blackbird after their guitarist Buddy got rung up on a three-month bid in Ramsey County\, Union Suits are a hot-shooting country-rockin’ outfit with songs that are pretty enough to make ya cry into your Lone Star.—————Eli GardinerEli Gardiner is a songwriter from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan\, currently located in Minneapolis Minnesota. He writes music that can be described as Americana\, Heartland Rock\, and Folk. Coming of the 2020 release of his album\, The Fire and The Medicine\, he formed his full band comprised of drummer Greg Schutte (Mickey Hart\, Ryan Bingham) lap steel/electric guitarist Dan Schwartz\, keyboardist Kevin Gamble and bassist Nick Salisbury (Ryan Bingham\, Brian Fallon). Eli’s music is always changing\, morphing to the mood and groove. It can be described as Americana or Rock\, but the themes are deeply rooted in our lives in present day\, what it means to be a human and to be sympathetic to other people. It’s about our connection\, how we are all the same and crave that understanding that music can bring at its most transcendental times.

Hamell on Trial is the musical alias of New York-based folk punk hero Ed Hamell. A one-man explosion\, he is loud-as-war one minute\, stepping off the microphone to whisper to an enthralled audience the next. This is a dynamic performance informed by politics\, passion\, intelligence and the all-important sense of humor. \nHis caustic wit and devil-may-care attitude have long been a favorite of anti-establishment icons Aesop Rock\, Kimya Dawson\, Ani DiFranco\, and the critical elite inciting Rolling Stone magazine to call him “Bald\, bold\, and superbad!” Henry Rollins says “Hamell is a one-man rock show!” He has been described as “Bill Hicks\, Hunter S. Thompson\, and Joe Strummer all rolled into one” by Philadelphia Weekly and a “one-man Tarantino flick: loud\, vicious\, luridly hilarious\, gleefully and deeply offensive” by the Village Voice. \n“He plays a 1937 Gibson guitar with a jackhammer force that makes you wonder how it doesn’t fall apart. The powerful\, profane\, hilarious\, one-man wrecking crew known as Hamell On Trial.” – Brian Cornish \nHamell tours the world constantly\, seemingly enjoying every performance challenge. From larger stages and theaters\, winning the coveted Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival\, to house concerts and DIY underground spaces\, this is a man who clearly loves to play. Armed with a battered 1937 Gibson acoustic guitar that he amplifies mightily and strums like a machine gun\, a politically astute mind that can’t stop moving\, and a mouth that can be profane one minute and profound the next\, with Tackle Box\, Hamell sets his sights on the new America and issues personal and spiritual. His performances invoke thoughts of the great\, rebellious satirists and social commentators of the past: Lenny Bruce\, Richard Pryor and Bill Hicks. Hamell is a great mind with acoustic punk rock mixed with a seeker’s soul. There’s no way around his obscenity but in that is a willingness to fight for the free thinkers of the world. Don’t we need that now more than ever? \nRuth Theodore has just signed an exciting record deal with Ani Difranco’s Righteous Babe Records in the USA and is on her debut tour of the US this spring to celebrate the release of her highly anticipated 5th studio record – ‘I Am I Am’ \nShe’ll perform from the new album which is the fruits of her ongoing collaborations with Grammy and Tony award winning bassist/producer Todd Sickafoose (Hadestown) and Swiss American percussion virtuoso Mathias Kunzli (Regina Spektor)\, recorded in upstate New York by Eli Crews (Tune-Yards). \nTheodore will also perform tracks from her critically acclaimed back catalog\, archived in the British Library for its contribution to British music. Theodore is an enigmatic performer and has performed her music in iconic venues in the UK including the London Palladium and Glastonbury Festival. \n“The last time I played the London Palladium Ruth Theodore was on the bill with me. I watched from the wings inspired by her authenticity\, her connection with my audience\, and her free artistic spirit. That night I saw her as a true Righteous Babe. Last fall\, when she reached out with her new album\, it seemed the perfect time to reunite and help introduce her to North America.”— Ani DiFranco“Britain’s answer to Ani DiFranco”- Red Guitar Music \n“Her tales leave you breathless” ★★★★ Mojo

One funny a$$ night. Bring a date\, bring your crew\, or come alone. Grab your tickets before they sell out!\n \n\nIra Ford\, from Maryland\, was a lyricist before he followed his passion of comedy. He was always amazed at how a comedian could hold so many people’s attention. Now based in Minneapolis\, he is an open book who talks about life experiences ranging from drugs to family. He unapologetically says what he thinks. His unique and hilarious stories earned him a semifinalist finish at The Funniest Person with a Day Job Contest at Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy\, and had his own wildly popular monthly showcase which he hosted and curates “Laughs and Legends” at Lakes and Legends Brewery in downtown Minneapolis. He is currently a paid regular emcee at the hottest comedy club in Minnesota Acme Comedy Company.\n\n\nEll-Emaj Hill\, an up & coming Minneapolis based stand up. Who spent much of his first year in comedy spinning the blocks of the Seattle comedy scene. The observational storyteller went from open mics\, to featuring to headlining\, while also winning the Sessions In Place Stand Up competition. Now he has returned home to join in the battle against landlocked nepotism. Will he prevail? Or nah.\n \nMahdi Gotti is an up and coming stand-up comedian with a story telling style of comedy from North Minneapolis . He is a regular at MNCS that takes place at the Spring Street Tavern. When Mahdi is not on stage\, you can find him applying for jobs he’s 100% not qualified for. Look them up!\n \nDaryl Horner from Minneapolis MN by way of Daleville Alabama\, uses nearly 30 years in entertainment to give a varied performance every night. No two shows are ever alike but every one is a  mix of wholesome nostalgia combined with the “for mature audiences only” antics of a man who missed the bus to adulthood.\n \nJohn X Yo\, check it: Meet John X\, the comedic boss of the block. With a rap sheet of wild escapades and a knack for flipping life’s struggles into straight-up jokes\, he s the don of humor. Roll with him and prepare to crack up\, no cap!

Debbie Center is known for her signature #classicalrock grooves\, reworking classic rock tunes into symphonies for two hands on her piano. Some of her favorites are the Grateful Dead\, Beatles\, Jethro Tull\, Led Zeppelin\, Queen\, Moody Blues\, Stevie Wonder\, Elton John\, Billy Joel\, and many more. She performs with numerous other musicians throughout Minnesota in addition to her solo piano concerts. Debbie also composes original piano music inspired by the wildlife\, scenery\, and northern lights of her beloved home in Nevis\, Minnesota. \n“Debbie Center is one of my favorite musicians to work with. She always has such amazing energy and it shines wildly through her music. Classical piano roots to improvisation of the highest accord. It’s very rare to find both qualities in a musician and usually it’s one or the other\, Debbie does both with ease. Her kind and positive attitude paired with her musical ability also continues to elevate her into new musical heights\, I’m excited to see where her musical journey will lead! I’m a big fan.”  – Mark Joseph (The Big Wu / The Dire Wolves)
