A masterful Grammy Award-winning violinist\, singer/songwriter\, actor\, and composer\, Lisa has an uncanny way of taking those audiences with her wherever she goes.\n—\nRecognized for her work as violinist and vocalist for the ground breaking Jewish Roots band The Klezmatics and as fiddler for the “Downtown” Celtic band Whirligig\, Lisa is also known for her scoring\, performance\, and music direction in the two time Tony award-winning play\, Indecent. She had an on-screen cameo and compositions featured in Sex and the City; has performed in Sting’s Broadway musical The Last Ship; and her song Gonna Get Through This World – with words by Woody Guthrie – was hailed by Pete Seeger as “a piece of genius”. Lisa’s playing and stories are fun and poignant\, and her voice has been praised by the LA Times as “hauntingly emotional.”   —\nDi Bayke Klezmer Band (backing band for Lisa Gutkin) plays the energetic party music of Eastern European Jewish tradition. A supergroup made of celebrated Twin Cities musicians\, including Pat O’Keefe\, Sarah Larsson\, Josh Rosard\, Daniel Lentz\, and Anthony Afful; Di Bayke has collectively studied with master-artists from klezmer tradition\, including Lisa Gutkin of The Klezmatics\, Ethel Raim of The Pennywhistlers\, and Michael Alpert of Brave Old World. Di Bayke’s adventurous takes on beloved Klezmer and Yiddish sounds encourage audiences to get on their feet and explore family stories of journey\, roots\, and home. Bayke is Yiddish for “tall tale”\, and is an acronym for Backyard Klezmer Ensemble\, which is where the band got started: playing outside during the COVID pandemic. (say: “Dee Bye-keh”)\n—\nAhmed Yusuf & Araa Ensemble is the project of Minneapolis-based author and educator Ahmed Ismail Yusuf. Committed to revitalizing the Somali musical genre of Qaraami\, Araa Ensemble brings together star vocalists and instrumentalists from the Midwestern Somali diaspora. Araa Ensemble has played their repertoire of Qaraami\, which JD Steele describes as “Somalia’s blues\,” at St. Thomas University\, St. John’s University\, and been featured on the Twin Cities’ Jazz88. The ensemble creates an intimate\, living-room atmosphere and invites audiences in to feel like members of the band. \nhttps://www.mprnews.org/story/2025/04/04/somali-blues-and-black-soul-music-in-cross-cultural-collaboration

Their music reflects a shared passion for classic rock and pop\, psychedelia\, post punk and rockabilly. Debut LP Hearing Horns arrives in April 2025 and features ten original songs that range from punky power-pop to folky jangle and achingly pretty melancholy. \nGuitarist Johnny Wilson (Go Buttons\, Evil Sulu) is a native North Carolinian and has fronted bands in NC\, St. Louis and Minneapolis. Drummer Chris Hansen (Pioneer Son\, Clockwork) is a native Minnesotan and gigged for years around the state before forming the band Hearing Horns in 2013 with Johnny and bassist John Hile. In late 2023\, Montana transplant and veteran bassist Rob McClain (Tim Montana & the Shrednecks\, Jeremy Scared)\, met Chris by happenstance at Chris’ optical shop. Barking at Ghosts was born. \nAll three members share a background in the fine and applied arts. Johnny works by day as a freelance graphic designer after a long career designing for Best Buy Corporate. After a career in graphic design\, Chris now runs Owl Optical in Minneapolis with his wife Julie. Rob is currently working towards his BFA degree at the University of Minnesota. Before that he worked in film and theater and owned his own company for over twenty years. \nThe Long HoneymoonMinneapolis-based pop-rock band The Long Honeymoon has been filling venues and exciting fans with their high-energy shows\, featuring original songs with rich vocal harmonies\, catchy pop grooves\, and clever arrangements. Its members\, all 20+ year veterans of the Twin Cities music scene\, combine a deep love of classic pop-rock with a modern sound and joyous spirit that’s attracting music lovers of all ages. \nHaving shared bills while playing in separate bands in the early 2000s\, founding members Lee Zukor (Lee Rude\, Charlie Bucket) and Adam Marshall (The Humbugs\, The Bazillions) reconnected in 2022\, finding instant chemistry through a shared love of artists including Elvis Costello\, The Beautiful South\, Stevie Wonder\, and Teenage Fanclub. Excited by the songs they were writing\, Lee and Adam enlisted Adam’s wife Kristin Marshall (also of The Humbugs and The Bazillions) to help flesh them out. Right away\, the three knew they had something special – they just needed to find the right band. And did they ever! \nBassist Volney Hendrix (Lee Rude\, Charlie Bucket) brings unique and catchy melodies to the band’s rhythm section\, while drummer Dennis Olson (RadioSpares) anchors the band with tight grooves and smart pop sensibilities. Volney and Dennis’ combined experience includes extensive gigging with jazz bands\, cover bands\, hard rock bands\, and pop bands\, and the music The Long Honeymoon plays draws on all of these influences. \nLead guitarist Mike Senkovich (Atomic Flea\, The Humbugs\, The Bazillions) and keyboard/vocalist Eric Kreidler (Atomic Flea\, Fever Pitch) have been playing catchy\, original pop songs together since the mid 90s. In addition to their “day jobs” in the band\, both are expert singers\, songwriters\, and arrangers\, drawing on a love of power-pop\, soul\, jazz\, and funk that gives The Long Honeymoon a rare sophistication. \nWith a supergroup vibe and two years of playing shows to full houses under their belts\, The Long Honeymoon is poised to take it to the next level\, with an album in the works and more gigs on the horizon. \nThe Famous Volcanoes  For 20 years Famous Volcanoes has been spewing musical lava of full on rock\, rootsy Americana\, multi-layered pure pop and traditional bluegrass.  The Volcanoes proudly wear their influences on their ragged shirtsleeves putting a Midwestern spin on a Crazy Horse meets quirk pop sound.  With three full length recordings (and another on the way) this five piece Minneapolis band have performed on stages from regional dive bars to Hollywood hotspots to back yard BBQ’s.

VIAL brings their genre-bending cascade of sound into electrifying live performances. Songs that smack you in the face: Rage-written speed runs about running over misogynists (“Roadkill”) are followed by a head bopping\, cheek-blushing queer love songs to tingle your toes (“Violet”); VIAL is powerhouse who knows how to adapt their sound\, and themselves\, allowing them to grow in new ways during 2020’s days of quarantine by creating a wide audience on TikTok and other social media while revving up to release their blossoming debut album\, LOUDMOUTH (2021). This record was highly-anticipated after the success of their debut EP\, “Grow Up\,” which hit streaming sites soon after the group’s formation in 2019. \n \nFollowing the release of LOUDMOUTH\, VIAL has made an explosive return to live music\, playing historic venues across Minnesota\, including First Avenue’s iconic main stage\, and have hit many of their favorite cities while touring with artists such as THICK\, Skating Polly\, and Jhariah. It’s not often that a band has their first tour after three years and two records released\, but VIAL is everything but your typical band.\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThank you to our sponsors\, partners\, & neighbors: \n\nSummit Brewing • DuNord Social Spirits • RKR Ganja Beverages • Nobool Presents • KFAI 90.3FM • Mpls.St.Paul Magazine • The Zen Arcade • Longfellow Rising • Lake Street Council • Minnesota State Arts Board • Moon Palace Books • Arbeiter Brewing\n\n \nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2025. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by Star Tribune readers.\n \nThe Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2025 season for our guests. Front man\, Clay Rose was raised between an outlaw\, truck-driving father in the mountains of Colorado and a country song-writing mama in the sticks outside of Nashville\, Tennessee. Clay’s penchant for open roads and trouble making are the backbone of the Gas Pops’ sound. The rest of the band consists of Don Ambory\, Scott Coulter\, “Bad” Brad Morse\, and Kevin Matthews who all come equipped with music degrees from Chicago\, Boston\, Jacksonville\, and Denver\, respectively. They each add flavors of their own background and heritage\, further diversifying the band’s signature sound.—-Clarence Tilton\, the Omaha-based band known for its sharp storytelling and harmonies to match announces the release of their latest album\, Queen of the Brawl. The record features collaborations with country icon Marty Stuart and Presley Tucker (bandmate and daughter of the legendary Tanya Tucker). It weaves together personal history\, road-worn experiences\, and a love of place into a collection of songs that “blends alt-country grit\, rich\, melodic hooks\, and evocative.” (The Country Note)—-Late-blooming Minnesota singer-songwriter Becky Kapell writes gritty\, no-nonsense songs that come from the crossroads of old-time rock and roll and country. Always walking the line between mischief and heartache\, her music doesn’t shy away from life’s truths and her own shortcomings\, and with over 50 years of life’s ups and downs\, she has plenty of material to draw from. Working with her all-star band The Fat 6\, Kapell has quickly become a fixture in the Twin Cities music scene\, sharing the stage with some of Americana’s biggest acts like Southern Culture on the Skids\, Rosie Flores\, Wayne Hancock and The Cactus Blossoms. Becky released her third album In It to Win It in 2022 which was recorded during the pandemic with partner and bandmate Paul Bergen. The album made several year-end favorite lists and mixes the raw grooves of Lucinda Williams\, the haunting sounds of Emmylou and the classic rock and roll feel of Nick Lowe.

The popular rock/garage group has been on semi-hiatus since member Jim McGuinn moved to Philadelphia for a job at WXPN-FM in 2022. Named after a phrase used in St. Paul when you meet someone new and discover a surprise connection – a mutual friend\, a past lover\, bandmate or neighbor – Saint Small refers to the way everyone and everything seems to be connected. The band surfs between songs that are serious\, and songs that will seriously make you laugh or smile (or cry\, laughing). \n \n\n \n\nThe best of classic guitar-driven rock in one small package\, Little Man (Chris Perricelli) has been described as a cross between George Harrison\, David Bowie\, T. Rex\, and Jack White\, with a familiar rock sound that is somehow all his own while being heavily inspired by spiritual and Zen themes. The Little Man live rock show is not to be missed.  Exuding with passion and a rock-star quality that pulls you into a performance with a classic rock\, psychedelic and garage rock feel that is uniquely their own.  \n \n\nThe unique fuzzpop sound of The Mood Swings developed when guitarist/songwriter Ashley Ackerson joined forces with kindred spirit Sallie Watson in the early 2000s and started cutting some 4-track demos. A little punk here\, a little 60s garage there\, a lot of attitude everywhere – The Mood Swings sound melded all these ingredients into hard hitting tunes prickly with pop hooks\, sharp-witted lyrics and searing guitars. The Mood Swings released three ace albums\, all produced by the late\, great Ed Ackerson. These albums featured catchy tunes with an edge and a bit of psychedelic mayhem thrown in.

Nicole was initially influenced by her parents playing in bands and working around the KC music scene. She recalls seeing her father playing blues guitar and her mother singing with the group Little Eva and The Works and it set off a switch. With her two brothers\, Nick and Kris\, they formed the “Heavy Blues” band Trampled Under Foot\, which found initial popularity in the Midwest\, then exploded worldwide for over 10 years.  \n\nThere has been no shortage of praise; Guitar World stated\, “Danielle Nicole has won respect and admiration throughout the American blues scene for her soulful\, inventive playing and tireless work ethic.” Blues Music Magazine effused\, “Nicole brings it\, bakes it\, and serves it up blazing on a silver soul-rocking platter.” The Kansas City Star declared\, “Blues and soul vocalists tend to improve as they age. Bettye LaVette is among the artists who became increasingly believable as she matured. Danielle Nicole appears to be following in her footsteps.”

Get your tickets and don’t forget your dancing shoes!—Igor Yuzov was born in Germany\, raised in Ukraine and studied in Russia. He grew up in the former Soviet Union\, where folk music was the norm and rock’n’roll was illegal. A rebellious streak\, led him to seek out the forbidden music. As soon as it became possible\, Igor left Russia for America with his “Folk’n’Roll” band Limpopo\, and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. In 1993\, Limpopo won Ed McMahon’s Star Search and their popularity began to blossom. In 1995\, Igor dreamed that Elvis Presley came to him and told him to start playing rock’n’roll. Igor and his Russian friends became Red Elvises and gave street performances on Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade. As their crowds grew larger\, the City of Santa Monica ordered them to discontinue their street performances. Evolving over the years\, Igor’s music has been labeled “Siberian Surf Rock” which contains humorous lyrics and grooves that forces his audience to dance. Over the past 20 years\, Red Elvises have constantly toured all over the world with occasional breaks to record new music and to participate in film and television projects. \n\n \nAs an independent band\, Red Elvises have produced 12 studio albums\, two live albums\, a live concert DVD\, and a Greatest Hits compilation. Some of their most notable film contributions include music and or performances in “Six String Samurai”\, “Mail Order Bride”\, “Armageddon”\, “Skippy”\,  “Melrose Place”\, “Fastlane”\, “Penn and Teller’s Sin City Extravaganza”\, “VH-1 Behind the Music”\, and “MTV”. Red Elvises have performed for large festivals\, private parties\, and played on massive stages such as 2005’s Live 8 Benefit Concert. No matter where they perform\, Igor & Red Elvises always bring the party with them.\n \nBlack Widows are a surf-punk-psyche band from Minneapolis\, Mn\, U.S. They serve up wild surf guitar\, slick bass grooves\, mean beats\, & riot grrrl vox. BW have toured overseas & nationally from Spain to NYC & LA playing bills and festivals w/ major acts like Bombino\, Dale Watson\, L.A. Witch\, The Trashmen\, Shonen Knife\, Olivia Jean\, The Coathangers\, Death Valley Girls\, Supersuckers\, Agent Orange\, The Surfaris\, Man or Astro-Man\, Messer Chups\, The Surfrajettes\, John Waters\, & more. BW’s ‘Swamp Rock City’ EP is out now on vinyl and they’re currently working on a full length album to be released this year. Follow BW at @blackwidowsrocks for 2025 tour dates and releases.\n\n

In the gospel church of her childhood\, she played saxophone and drums and found her singing voice and a passion for music. \n \nChastity’s been featured on NPR’s Favorite Sessions\, CMT\, American Songwriter\, the London Times\, Paste Magazine and others. Chastity has toured the U.S. and abroad\, appearing on the U.K.’s Later…with Jools Holland.\n \nLike so many artists who endured the uncertainty of the 2020 lockdown\, Chastity’s instinct was to turn inward\, at first out of self-preservation\, and then because the new songs kept coming and coming. Since finishing her last album\, 2017’s Silhouette Of Sirens\, she estimates she’s written nearly 100 new songs\, ten of which found their way onto her latest\, 2022’s Sing To The Walls.\n \nBetween writing sessions she’s been vibing to chilled-out\, forward-thinking artists like Leon Bridges\, H.E.R.\, SZA\, and Daniel Caesar\, taking their cue to expand beyond genre and her folk/roots history to encompass her appreciation of all Black American musical art forms. “I also want to poke at what the blues is\,” Chastity reflects. “It has a lot of stereotypes like it’s mostly only played by blue-eyed white guys now. But what about Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey? I feel so closely connected\, in a pure\, undeviating lineage\, to the heritage of being a Black\, queer blues woman. I want to share this music with them\, to say that I’ve listened\, and I’ve done something new.”\n—\n\nAnna Devine is a singer-songwriter based in the Twin Cities. You may have seen her singing with local indie groups Aiden Intro and Chutes. In 2024\, Anna moved to center stage to front her solo project\, playing sold-out rooms in the Twin Cities area.\nInspired by indie folk musicians such as Adrianne Lenker\, Slow Pulp and Alex G\, Anna released her debut EP\, “Seeing the Trees for the Leaves” in April 2025. \n \n“Her first solo release\, “Year’s End\,” captures the conflicting feelings of starting anew after the holiday fanfare. Devine’s gentle\, sensitive musical touch is reminiscent of alternative folk artists like Big Thief and Aldous Harding.” —Diane Miller\, The Current (MPR)\n \n“Anna Devine’s songs carry stories of heartache and fortitude across her new EP\, Seeing the Trees for the Leaves. With subtle and gentle delivery\, Devine knows how to sculpt atmosphere on the opening song “This Time.” The minimal sound design builds with swells of warm tones and gently strummed guitar\, evolving into a beautiful tune.” —Mpls.St.Paul Magazine\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThank you to our sponsors\, partners\, & neighbors: \n\nSummit Brewing • DuNord Social Spirits • RKR Ganja Beverages • Nobool Presents • KFAI 90.3FM • Mpls.St.Paul Magazine • The Zen Arcade • Longfellow Rising • Lake Street Council • Minnesota State Arts Board • Moon Palace Books • Arbeiter Brewing\n\n \nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2025. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by Star Tribune readers.\n \nThe Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2025 season for our guests. The Combo will be performing a FULL night of music from these two iconic funk artists. \nWorld renowned Dr. Mambo’s Combo has been performing weekly at Bunkers Music Bar & Grill since 1987 — one of the longest running weekly residencies anywhere in America. The band quickly became Prince’s favorite — playing soul\, rock\, and r&b music with unmatched passion and fire – and audiences have flocked to their weekly performances ever since. In addition to Prince\, many national touring artists often stop by to sit in with the band after their own show —including John Mayer\, Sheila E\, Questlove\, Stokley\, Larry Graham\, and Bonnie Raitt. \nDr. Mambo’s Combo’s ‘Let Me Have it All’ features a diverse collection of songs across the many eras and styles of these amazing trendsetting artists. Sly Stone rose to popularity with Woodstock era hits ‘Everyday People’ & ‘I Want to Take You Higher’\, and took a surprise turn in the early 70’s with the genre defining funk of ‘Family Affair’ and ‘If You Want Me to Stay’. \n\nRufus and Chaka Khan were one of the most popular and influential funk bands of the 1970s\, with four consecutive number-one R&B albums\, ten top 40 pop hits and five number-one R&B singles including ‘Tell Me Something Good’\, ‘Sweet Thing’ and ‘Ain’t Nobody’.\n \n\nThe current band lineup features Julius Collins and Margaret Cox on lead vocals\, Sonny Thompson on bass\, Brian Ziemniak on keys\, Geoff LeCrone on guitar and Peter Suttman on drums. SUMMARY:LETDOWN. with YOUTHYEAR\, LUCHIANO
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nUptown vfw \n\n\nDoors 7:00pm :: Music 7:30pm :: 21+\n\n\nGA: $18 Box-Office / $20.93 Online / $23 Door\n\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n\nLETDOWN.\nwith YOUTHYEAR\, LUCHIANO \n\n—\n\n\n\n\nLetdown. is ready to embrace the positive. The Texas-born\, Nashville-based alt-rocker\, singer\, and multi-instrumentalist has tackled a slew of personal demons—many of which turned up on his catharsis-packed debut EP\, 2023’s Crying In The Shower—in order to come out on the other side\, stronger than ever. \n\n \nThe prolific artist’s latest batch of songs\, which he is constantly churning out as a therapeutic way to process daily life\, are upbeat\, hook-packed anthems that invite audiences to shout along in unison. \n\n \n“I think I’m at the end of writing about my problems\,” Coddington muses. “I’ve been putting myself through emotional music therapy for three years now\, and it’s working. I’m finally looking back and laughing for the first time. I consider it the upswing of the depression. I’m about to enter this whole new phase in my life. Everything feels new again for the first time.” \n\n \nEver since he first began releasing music in 2020\, Letdown. (real name Blake Coddington) has poured his soul into crafting soaring rock anthems that vulnerably chronicle his mental health journey and sonically intersect with punk/emo\, electronic\, and pop. \n\n \nPosting a series of unguarded videos to TikTok\, Letdown. has seen his following grow to more than 675K\, nearly 1M monthly listeners on Spotify\, and over 100K on Instagram—not even counting the 200M total streams his songs have earned. This growing popularity has led to extensive nationwide and European touring\, allowing Letdown. to connect with fans across the globe. \n\n \n“That’s the greatest part of this\,” Coddington says of his more buoyant direction. “We’re all dancing around the studio. It’s the most natural writing I’ve ever done…” \n\n \nThe song “Hate Myself”—his collaboration with producer Carlo—became his second Top 25 single at Alternative radio\, signaling his rising profile and the impact of his emotionally honest songwriting. \n\nHe continues to unpack tough emotions in tracks like:\n\n“Be Ok” (featuring LØLØ) – written near the end of a serious\, unhealthy relationship.\n“Dead Right” – a fun\, catchy tune created without overthinking.\n“Crying In The Shower” – a Top 20 hit detailing heartbreak\, fleeting highs\, and emotional numbness.\n“Go To Hell” – a defiant\, crowd-moving anthem about the painful complexity of leaving an abusive partner.\n“Young Broke (2025)” – a self-reflecting song about the reality of his life\, and his future\n\nIf anything unites Letdown.’s debut album\, it’s his ability to mix audible joy with emotional darkness\, creating cathartic\, uplifting music that turns hardship into healing. \n\n \n“The music I’m writing currently has been a lot more fun than it ever has been\, and a lot less depressing. This is what’s been handed to me—now I’m gonna have to make something awesome.”——YOUTHYEAR is the moniker of Eric Paquette\, a Nashville based artist\, songwriter\, and producer hailing from Western Massachusetts. YOUTHYEAR’s upcoming releases and sound are an alt-rock collection of post-party/post-relationship songs with elements of 90s nostalgia\, hip-hop\, nü-school pop-punk and also draws influence from the more melodic side of grunge. Themes of self-sabotage and struggling with sobriety are juxtapositioned with bright colorful melodies and are a reflection of Eric’s own experience with addiction and the darker corners of his recovery journey.

Later that same year\, “Let Your Love Flow” hit number one in the United States pop charts as well as in more than a dozen countries.\n \nThey soon moved towards the country music genre and “If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body Would You Hold It against Me” became the first of twenty number one hit country singles in the years to follow\, along with more than fifty hits overall on the charts.
