SUMMARY:Barbara Cohen & Little Lizard Reunion Concert With Special Guests Adam & Ava Levy
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 6:30pm:: Music 7:30pm :: 21+\n$20 ADV (Box Office) / $25 Door\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n***This show was previously scheduled for December 28\, 2024. All Tickets purchased for that date will be honored on new date of March 1\, 2025.***\n \nBarbara Cohen & Little Lizard Reunion Concert\nWith Guests Adam & Ava Levy\n\nBarbara Cohen & Little Lizard\, the acclaimed 1990s’ band led by singer-songwriter Barbara Cohen performing with Twin Cities’ musical luminaries cellist Jacqueline Ultan\, guitarist Jeremy Ylivisaker and percussionist Marc Anderson\, reunites for a remarkable Dec 28th concert at the Hook & Ladder Theater with special guests\, father-daughter duo\, Adam and Ava Levy.Little Lizard offers a fresh and original\, free-ranging blend of world-folk music\, Americana and cinematic soundscapes. The ensemble revives fan favorites from Cohen’s previousindependent solo albums California and Black Lake\, as well as offering new songs including her single “Let It Out” now available on Spotify. \n“The really amazing thing about working together now\, 25 years later\,” remarked Cohen\, “is that we still have this easy connection\, but everyone’s artistry has jumped up twenty/thirty-fold. It’s such a blast to hear everyone’s ideas and sink into the sound that’s being created.” \nBarbara Cohen blends musical genres from folk to electronica\, and world to modern-classical. She recently returned to Minnesota after a decades-long sojourn in Los Angeles where she found success as a performer\, recording artist\, music educator and as an award-winning film composer. The initial L.A. move was prompted by a Virgin Records’ recording contract for Brother Sun\, Sister Moon\, a trip-hop duo she founded with Paul Robb (Information Society). In addition to solo albums\, Cohen collaborated on hit singles with England’s prestigious band Orbital\, and the French electronic duo Air. Before forming Little Lizard (TRG Records)\, Cohen earned an enthusiastic Midwest regional following with her debut group Farm Accident (Red House Records). \nUltan\, Ylivisaker and Anderson are some of the area’s most talented and sought-after musicians. With decades of accolades and experience\, each is known for an eclectic musical range. To name a few collaborations\, Ultan has performed with Dan Wilson\, Ondara and Soul Asylum; Ylivisaker with John Prine\, Bon Iver and Bruce Hornsby; and Anderson with Max Roach\, Angelique Kidjo\, Steve Tibbetts and Taj Mahal. \nAdam & Ava LevyFather and daughter Adam and Ava Levy are songwriters. Adam has led the Honeydogs for over thirty years\, as well as his recent psychedelic country three-part harmony group Turn Turn Turn. Ava has released a few singles\, writing thoughtful tunes that employ her gorgeous\, breathy voice with a mix of femme punk and Nick Drake guitar. They’ve shared a stage for years in the family music band Bunny Clogs. More recently they share songs and stories on stage as a duo\, occasional covers\, culling from dad’s deep catalogue and Ava’s fresh sounds.

We’ll move you between what’s crisp and what’s sweaty. This one is for soft goths\, hard punks\, and hot ravers. Come into a new season. Freaks and queers to the front\, always and forever\n—Ficshe\nSolo electronic producer and singer with a focus on dark\, emotive moodiness contrasted with weird musical experiments. Sometimes danceable\, sometimes melancholy\, but always uniquely ficshe. \n—Darkling I Listen\nDarkling I Listen is a gothic post-punk duo. Synth-driven melodies and reflective lyrics create a dark and danceable sound. \n—Selfish Teammate\nSelfish Teammate is the neurotic connection between lyricist Sage “Lou” Shemroske and guitarist Allie Johnson. With Shemroske scream-speaking\, a Roland drum machine\, and Johnson on guitar\, the duo play heavy distortion and high energy shows. Balancing punk and poetry\, Selfish Teammate plays fast\, loud\, and freaky! \n—\nOri the GhostOri The Ghost is a lover of music and loud sounds that remind her of delving into a bucket filled with metal shavings. Iowa born and raised then relocated to the great city of Minneapolis\, MN. A trans and queer Latina who wants nothing more than to share her favorite songs and sounds with the world. The underground is her home and her people are found in every dark pocket of the world begging to release their inner demons on the dance floor. Ori takes inspiration from production heavy weights like Sophie\, AG Cook\, BastienGOAT\, and Black Girl/White Girl to inform her of her sound and taste. Oriana’s unique perspective touches the freaks\, loners\, and queerdos right where it counts\, the floor.\n—BOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available in The Zen Arcade During Hours of Operation. For More Information visit www.ZenArcadeTHC.comNO REFUNDS

Forming in 2000\, the Chicago natives achieved nationwide attention with their first two label-backed records\, 2006’s Knuckles Up and 2007’s Jungle of the Midwest Sea. These releases built on a heavy dose of previously established regional notoriety\, helping the band gain steam early on.—Something To Do is a long running\, great smelling rock & roll & ska band from Milwaukee\, WI! \nFounded in the cold-ass Minnesota winter of 2017\, Loss leader is the new project from three working-class dudes from Minneapolis\, MN; Tim Schumann (guitar/vocals)\, Andy Slater (drums)\, and Brandon Stein (bass). With deep roots in the Minneapolis and broader Midwest punk and indie scenes (former The Damn Choir\, Mpls Henrys\, Mad Dogs of Glory\, current The Jeffertons) Loss Leaders’ brand of earnest\, hard charging\, melodic midwest punk has earned them a dedicated and steadily growing fan base in Minneapolis and the region. \n—Formed in summer 2003\, the Virgin Whores are a punk rock band based out of the twin cities. Soxxx (lead vox)\, Tyler Bourbon (bass)\, Darnell Jenkins (rhythm guitar)\, Boogie (lead guitar)\, Rye (drums). \n— \nBOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available in The Zen Arcade During Hours of Operation. Orchestra \n\nOnce again Hook and Ladder Theater welcomes listeners and dancers to revel in the sounds of the Jazz Age! Year four of the festival kicks off with Davenport’s most famous son\, Bix Beiderbecke\, the cornetist whose genius continues to influence jazz musicians nearly a century after his death. You’ll also indulge in the hothouse music of Lee Wiley’s Cole Porter songbook. In the late 1930s\, she became the first singer to make records of all one composer. And finally\, a septet bringing you the rollicking small band sounds of Duke Ellington’s first two decades on the scene. —Southside Aces Your magnanimous Jazz Age Rumpus hosts\, Southside Aces\, are a Twin Cities institution. They’ve been performing the music of Jazz Age greats such as Louis Armstrong\, Duke Ellington\, and Fats Waller\, just to name a few\, since 2003. They’ve played for clubs\, dancers\, and festivals in the Twin Cities and throughout the midwest\, including the 50th Anniversary Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Festival in the summer of 2021. They’ve released eight albums of jazz including 2022’s Minneapolis Bump\, featuring all originals in the traditional style. \n“Some 1500 miles from New Orleans and the Mardi Gras\, and what do you think? It’s bouncing around the Mississippi River up here close to the Northern Star.” Leigh Kamman—The Jazz Image  —Maud Hixson and her Town Talkers Hailed as “gently virtuosic” (All About Jazz)\, Maud Hixson is a devoted exponent of great songs\, ranging from the classic Great American Songbook to the often unsung or forgotten compositions awaiting rediscovery. Based in Saint Paul\, Minnesota\, Maud teamed with Sir Richard Rodney Bennett in 2012 for the long-running Midtown Jazz at Midday concert series at Saint Peter’s in New York City\, and debuted her show\, Skyscraper Wits\, in London and New York in 2015. She has made three appearances at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall for the New York Cabaret Convention\, presented by the Mabel Mercer Foundation. Her newest recording is devoted to the music of her mentor\, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett\, which earned a 2024 Bistro Award. Pianist Rick Carlson is the instigator of the Town Talkers accompaniment in presenting the Lee Wiley Cole Porter songbook. —Tony Balluff and The Four A.M. Orchestra Jazz Age Rumpus and the Hook and Ladder Theater has the pleasure of the world debut of Tony Balluff and The Four A.M. Orchestra\, dedicated to the swinging small band Duke Ellington records of the ‘20s through the early ‘40s. Duke’s unique\, crepuscular composing changed the world of jazz forever. The band is led by clarinetist Tony Balluff\, with the piano bench occupied by the inimitable Rick Carlson. The rest of the Four A.M. Orchestra: Dan Eikmeier—trumpet Eric Johnson—trombone Brad Holden—alto saxophone Dave Michael—drums Steve Pikal—string bass.—Rick Carlson taught himself to play the piano by studying the vast works of Count Basie and Duke Ellington and capitalizing on a long string of happy accidents. He has performed on concert stages in London and New York City\, and along the way appeared with Count Basie drummer Butch Miles\, horn stars Warren Vaché\, Delfeayo Marsalis\, Evan Christopher and Wycliffe Gordon. He has been the pianist for the Wolverines Big Band since 1980. \nTony Balluff Tony has been playing clarinet most of his life. He received his higher education in traditional jazz from local legends\, The Hall Brothers Jazz Band\, including Charlie DeVore and Butch Thompson. He leads many bands featuring early jazz\, is a composer of jazz\, and is a founder and director of Jazz Age Rumpus. —BOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available in The Zen Arcade During Hours of Operation. For More Information visit www.ZenArcadeTHC.comNO REFUNDS

SUMMARY:Martha Wainwright "20th Anniversary Tour"
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 6:30pm :: Music 7:00pm :: 21+\n\nReserved Seats: $34 ADV (Box-Office) \n\n\nGA: $24 ADV (Box-Office) \n\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nMartha Wainwright\n“20th Anniversary Tour”\nwith guest Brad Barr \n—– \n\n\nThe Hook & Ladder is please to present acclaimed artist  Martha Wainwrightin concert.  To celebrate the 20th anniversary of her seminal eponymous debut studio album\, Martha Wainwright announces the 20th Anniversary Tour. \n \n2005’s ‘Martha Wainwright’ showed an artist of considerable depth and vision and secured herself a place as one of the finest songwriters of her generation. \nWith an undeniable voice and an arsenal of powerful songs\, Martha Wainwright is a beguiling performer and a refreshingly different force in music. \nBorn in Montreal to parents Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle\, both successful singers and songwriters\, Martha Wainwright was immersed in music from birth. Singing or performing on-stage and in the studio at an early age\, she became disenchanted at the thought of a musical career during high school. Shunning music\, she decided to study drama at Montreal’s Concordia University instead.\n \n\nSoon after starting her studies\, however\, she began composing her own material and performing in clubs and coffeehouses around Montreal. She also began touring with her older brother\, Rufus Wainwright\, as a backing vocalist and musician. Moving from Montreal to New York\, Martha was cast in a stage musical called Largo.  She also released a self-titled EP\, as well as a four-song EP. In February 2005\, Wainwright issued another EP called Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole (said to be inspired by her sometimes rocky relationship with her dad)\, followed by the self-titled Martha Wainwright\, her full-length debut album. \nMartha Wainwright’s role as an artist has always been to embrace her wildness and sketch out her raw depth. This edge is what makes Wainwright uncompromisingly herself and continues to draw in an audience two decades on. \n \nOver a career that spans three decades\, Brad Barr has cultivated a uniquely visceral\, disarmingly intimate approach to the guitar. If you’re already a fan of the Montreal-based Barr Brothers\, or the legendary improv-rock trio The Slip\, then you already know — it’s futile to try and categorize his ongoing experiments in sound and songwriting.\n \nHis musical journeys\, almost always in lockstep with sibling drummer Andrew Barr\, have taken them on chimerical paths: from all-night sets at jam festivals to the main stages of Newport Folk and Montreal Jazz; from tightly focused avant-rock collaborations to atmospheric reverb-laced folk ballads. Starting in the mid-90s\, their trio The Slip built a global cult following for their wide-ranging compositions and deeply improvisational sets.\n \nWhen the two brothers moved to Montreal in 2005\, they started a new chapter with experimental harpist Sarah Pagé and formed the Barr Brothers. The ensuing three albums have each been nominated for a Juno award\, and they have shared the bill with such artists as My Morning Jacket\, Calexico\, Bela Fleck\, The War on Drugs\, Tinariwen\, Built to Spill\, The Prodigy\, Emmylou Harris\, and others.\n.— \n\n\n\nBOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available in The Zen Arcade During Hours of Operation. In 2001\, the idea to form a Van Morrison tribute band was formed\, and Terry spent the rest of the year learning Van songs and building an all-star band\, with Joe Loskotaon keyboards and Vic Volare running the horn section. The band played their first show at the old 400 Bar on Saint Patrick’s Day 2002.\n \nMany musicians played with the band over the first few years\, and continue to do so today\, but the ‘A’ team was soon established: Dan Kowalke on guitar and backing vocals\, Joe Baumgart (bass)\, Dave Kirby and Dave Haugen (drums\, backing vocals)\, Joe Loskota(keyboards\, backing vocals)\, Paul Gronert (sax)\, Matt Hanzelka (trombone)\, Tim Martin (trumpet)\, Vic Volare(sax\, flute) and Terry Walsh (lead vocals\, guitar\, harmonica\, piano).\n \nThe band has expanded its content over the years to include rock and soul covers along with Terry’s own originals\, which have become fan favorites. Now a beloved staple in Minnesota\, the 9-piece Belfast Cowboys averaged over 120 shows a year before the pandemic. The bar-tested troubadours are known for playing epic sets at their weekly Minneapolis gigs and drawing large crowds to outdoor festivals. Occasionally they’ll venture beyond the Midwest to play Ireland\, Phoenix\, New York’s Times Square\, and once opened for the band Chicago in front of 15\,000 people.

Grab a ticket before it sells out and come sing along!\n \nDrew Peterson is an independent Americana singer-songwriter who has captivated fans across the Midwest for well over 20 years. Since fronting the Minnesota-based group Forty Watt Bulb\, Peterson has spawned two other successful roots projects: the twangy\, upbeat Dead Pigeons and bluegrass-influenced Boxstore Bird. \n \nPeterson has built a unique brand that transcends the genre. With clever\, dry humor and thought- provoking lyrics\, Peterson’s music is like oil over gravel. Drawing on influences from John Prine\, Tom Waits\, Cat Stevens\, Van Morrison\, among others\, Peterson offers the world upbeat tunes with a soft- spoken gravitas that belies his years. \n\n“Front man Drew Peterson is a top-flight lyricist\, a sardonic\, scatological songwriter who tempers his mournful insights with gallows humor…Peterson’s outlook is consistently grim and sometimes gross\, but it’s always delivered with a Kris Kristofferson-esque wink that keeps things from getting oppressive.” — Ira Brooker\, Art Hounds Minnesota Public Radio

Tight horn and Rhythm section set the tone\, immediately pulling fans to engage.—–Mae Simpson “It’s impossible to stand still during a Mae Simpson Music set. Simpson’s raspy\, dynamic voice is larger than life — but not as large as her uncontainable energy that radiates from the stage.” – Colleen Cowie (Minneapolis Public Radio) \nGrowing up in South Carolina\, Mae Simpson remembers her mother wearing out the records of Tina Turner and Patsy Cline. You can hear their echo in the music of the Minneapolis-based artist. Turner can be felt in Simpson’s fiery soulful voice\, stage energy\, and rock and soul feel on songs like Tryna be Right and Why. The timeless lyricism of Cline finds its home in nostalgic ballads like Cap Guns and Monsters. \nThe band includes Jorgen Wadkins on guitar\, David Kellerman on bass\, drummer and background vocalist Aaron Silverstein\, and trumpeter Paul Pederson. In 2023 they released Chandelier & Bloom.——————–Hot Like Mars is Chicago’s funkiest\, most soulful rock band\, turning heads with their exhilarating live performances and consistently compelling studio releases. The dynamic quintet – Anthony Perry (Lead Vocals / Keys)\, Frank Minella (Guitar / Vocals)\, Patrick Walsh (Guitar)\, Lamontae Norwood (Bass / Vocals)\, and Wes Julien (Drums / Vocals)\, has earned regional acclaim in recent years\, delivering high-energy\, genre-bending live shows that leave audiences spellbound. Leading with exceptional song craft\, intrepid improvisation\, and world-class instrumentation\, the group’s uplifting presence has earned them a reputation as one of the most exciting bands on the circuit today.
