SUMMARY:Belfast Cowboys
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:00pm :: Music 7:30pm \n\n21+ \n\nGA: $20 Advance  / $25  Day of Show\n\n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Belfast Cowboys\n\nThe Belfast Cowboys are a nine-piece\, horn-driven band from Minneapolis that specializes in the music of Van Morrison – mixing rock\, blues\, roots and soul sounds.  They have become one of Minnesota’s (and The Hook & Ladder‘s) most popular bands.\n \nLed by veteran songwriter and guitarist Terry Walsh and powered by a four-piece horn section\, the Cowboys have flourished in the renowned Minnesota music scene\, and have consistently packed houses and wowed crowds since 2002.\n \nTerry Walsh got his start playing in various Twin Cities rock bands and toured as Slim Dunlap’s bass player in 1997\, opening for Son Volt. In 2001\, the idea to form a Van Morrison tribute band was formed\, and Terry spent the rest of the year learning Van songs and building an all-star band\, with Joe Loskota on keyboards and Vic Volare running the horn section. The band played their first show at the old 400 Bar on Saint Patrick’s Day 2002. \n\n \nMany musicians played with the band over the first few years\, and continue to do so today\, but the ‘A’ team was soon established: Dan Kowalke on guitar and backing vocals\, Joe Baumgart (bass)\, Dave Kirby and Dave Haugen (drums\, backing vocals)\, Joe Loskota(keyboards\, backing vocals)\, Paul Gronert (sax)\, Matt Hanzelka (trombone)\, Tim Martin (trumpet)\, Vic Volare (sax\, flute) and Terry Walsh (lead vocals\, guitar\, harmonica\, piano). \n\n \nThe band has expanded its content over the years to include rock and soul covers along with Terry’s own originals\, which have become fan favorites. Now a beloved staple in Minnesota\, the 9-piece Belfast Cowboys averaged over 120 shows a year before the pandemic. The bar-tested troubadours are known for playing epic sets at their weekly Minneapolis gigs and drawing large crowds to outdoor festivals. Occasionally they’ll venture beyond the Midwest to play Ireland\, Phoenix\, New York’s Times Square\, and once opened for the band Chicago in front of 15\,000 people.\n

Hard rockin’ and satisfying\, these guys are excellent musicians and stars in their own right – Billy Batson (vocals)\, Ernie Batson (guitar)\, Tommy Rey (drums)\, Keith Patterson (bass)\, Adam Fesenmaier (guitar). \nThe Fret Rattles bring their own approach to the sounds of late 60’s Detroit (MC5\, Stooges)\, 70’s punk (Radio Birdman\, Sonics Rendezvous Band)\, and the 90’s underground rock revival (Hellacopters\, Dragons). The Final result is straight-forward rock’n’roll that is not retro but instead alive\, fresh\, and more relevant sounding than ever! \nLong known for their eclectic mix of cover songs — ranging from obscure ’60s garage rock to late ’70s punk and power pop — members of The Silverteens have been mainstays on the local scene since the 1970s and ’80s. The band includes: Terry Isachsen (guitar)\, Steve Olson (bass)\, Jerry Johnson (drums)\, Mark Engebretson (vocals).

Interpolating darkly shimmering layers of angular guitar and pulsating darkwave beats\, WINGTIPS sharpen their anthemic rush with an increasing penchant for melody and an atmosphere equally informed by post-punk as sweeping electronica. \n \nTheir debut full-length\, EXPOSURE THERAPY released in 2019\, is a contextualization of new romantic for post-millennial end times\, and a refreshing mix of synthpop and darkwave with hooks so compelling they are cinematic in scope. In September 2021\, WINGTIPS released their sophomore LP\, CUTTING ROOM FLOOR. The record is a momentous shift from a previous stylistically darkwave approach into a realm of maximalist dark pop\, and even techno body music\, while also maintaining many of the sonic textures from whence the band came.\n \nIn 2024\, WINGTIPS will release their third full-length record\, ON TRIAL. Featuring collaborations with the likes of TIM CAPPELLO (The Lost Boys\, Tina Turner Band)\, and the cutting edge New York-based RONNIE STONE\, the album is yet another evolutionary shift for the band into an even more advanced musical identity. Tonally\, the dichotomy between tracks marks the furthered maturity of WINGTIPS’ approach to their unique blend of dark dance music\, and texturally lush dream pop. The album also marks the first release where the entirety of recording\, mixing\, and post-production was completed by the band themselves\, maintaining a core ethos that DIY is key to precisely communicating artistic language.

Bennett – drums\, vocals\, & Darren D. Harff – guitars\, vocals—-Dany Laj and The Looks is a vibrant power pop band hailing from Montreal\, known for their infectious melodies\, high-energy performances\, and a distinctive sound that blends garage rock sensibilities with modern flair. Led by the charismatic Dany Laj\, whose songwriting prowess and distinctive vocals drive the band’s creative vision\, they’ve earned a reputation for their electrifying live shows and compelling studio recordings.\n \nFormed in 2010\, the band quickly made a name for themselves with their constant touring\, showcasing their knack for crafting catchy hooks and singalong choruses. Their music draws inspiration from the golden era of power pop\, as well as punk and garage rock\, resulting in a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh. \n\n \nLaj\, originally from the small Northern Ontario mining town of Kirkland Lake\, has been honing his skills in songwriting and guitar in various bands since his teen years\, culminating in the razor sharp\, edge-of-your-seat songs the Looks are known for. \n\n \nThe Looks—featuring Jeanette Dowling on bass\, David Laplante on guitar\, and Alex Pauzé on drums—complement Laj’s vision with tight rhythms\, quirky guitar riffs\, and an undeniable sense of fun. Over the years\, they’ve released a series of well-received albums and singles\, each marked by their signature blend of upbeat tempos\, heartfelt lyrics\, and an unrelenting passion for their craft. \n\n \nWith a growing fanbase and critical acclaim\, Dany Laj and the Looks continue to push the boundaries of power pop\, making their mark as one of Canada’s most exciting and innovative bands. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer to their sound\, their music promises an exhilarating experience that celebrates the joy of pure rock and roll. \n\n \nPRESS QUOTES:\n“Dany Laj writes the kind of tunes full of yearning: for love\, for commitment\, for purpose\, for getting the hell out of town. Fortunately he wraps this angst in the kind of tuneful confections that make fast friends on one spin.” – Big Takeover Magazine\n \n“Dany Laj And the Looks are becoming a tour de force in the world of power-pop and old school rock’n’roll and deserve to be heard by a much wider audience.”  Louder Than War \n \n“Combine all of the best ingredients of Power Pop into a 60’s Blender in the Garage and press repeat.” – “Boris” Boden (aka The Secret Weapon on Woody Radio) \n \n“I’ve been on the Laj train since 2017 and am pleased to find many of my favorite tracks here such as “Sweet Pretender”\, “Mister Screaming Attitude”\, “Hold For Love”\, and the terrific 2018 single “Left To Right One”. I’ve also discovered a couple of old gems in “I Know You Want Out” and “Best Thing In Town” that have immediately ascended to my favorites list. While “power pop” broadly describes this band’s music\, I’ve always appreciated how Laj has never limited himself to a specific genre. He’s a singer/songwriter first and foremost\, and his songs reflect the influence of everything from punk to folk to indie rock to classic pop & rock and roll. There’s more than a little Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello in his musical DNA!” – Faster And Louder

Since 2016 they have delivered two EPs and three full-length albums\, including their most recent release\, “Family Over Everything\,” which dropped in July of 2021. Their efforts have been rewarded with invitations to play on prestigious stages like Super Bowl Live\, NAMM\, SXSW\, and Prince’s famous estate Paisley Park. \n— \nGoon Tribune is a hip-hop\, G-Funk\, and electronic jazz band led by artist Ian McCarthy and bassist Nick Benish\, combined with a tight group of musicians: Andrew Tomten (Purple Funk Metropolis\, Tabah\, Wry Samurai) on Saxophone\, Tarek Abdelqader (Purple Funk Metropolis and A.P. Simpson) on drums\, Colin Peters (Willows and Dawn of Time) on Guitar\, and Andy Colburn (Boats & Bridges and Witch Hunter General) on keyboards/synthesizers\, started in the basements of Como and working their way through the Minneapolis music scene. This band makes for exciting live shows\, combining refined story-telling lyrical content with a sound influenced from old school hip-hop loops of Dr. Dre and J-Dilla and jazz funk like Herbie Hancock.
