SUMMARY:Dany Laj and The Looks\, The Boot R&B\, Hot Press
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nUptown vfw \n\nDoors 7:30pm\nMusic 8:00pm\n21+\nGA: $10 ADV / $15 DOS\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n\nDany Laj and The Looks\, The Boot R&B\, Hot Press\n\n \n\nThe Boot R&B is a special blend of Dutch Beat\, Freakbeat\, Minneapolis Rock—Hot Press is a Minneapolis hard edged\, melodic and tough post punk duo featuring Laura F. Bennett – drums\, vocals\, & Darren D. Harff – guitars\, vocals—-Dany Laj and The Looks is a vibrant power pop band hailing from Montreal\, known for their infectious melodies\, high-energy performances\, and a distinctive sound that blends garage rock sensibilities with modern flair. Led by the charismatic Dany Laj\, whose songwriting prowess and distinctive vocals drive the band’s creative vision\, they’ve earned a reputation for their electrifying live shows and compelling studio recordings.\n \nFormed in 2010\, the band quickly made a name for themselves with their constant touring\, showcasing their knack for crafting catchy hooks and singalong choruses. Their music draws inspiration from the golden era of power pop\, as well as punk and garage rock\, resulting in a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh. \n\n \nLaj\, originally from the small Northern Ontario mining town of Kirkland Lake\, has been honing his skills in songwriting and guitar in various bands since his teen years\, culminating in the razor sharp\, edge-of-your-seat songs the Looks are known for. \n\n \nThe Looks—featuring Jeanette Dowling on bass\, David Laplante on guitar\, and Alex Pauzé on drums—complement Laj’s vision with tight rhythms\, quirky guitar riffs\, and an undeniable sense of fun. Over the years\, they’ve released a series of well-received albums and singles\, each marked by their signature blend of upbeat tempos\, heartfelt lyrics\, and an unrelenting passion for their craft. \n\n \nWith a growing fanbase and critical acclaim\, Dany Laj and the Looks continue to push the boundaries of power pop\, making their mark as one of Canada’s most exciting and innovative bands. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer to their sound\, their music promises an exhilarating experience that celebrates the joy of pure rock and roll. \n\n \nPRESS QUOTES:\n“Dany Laj writes the kind of tunes full of yearning: for love\, for commitment\, for purpose\, for getting the hell out of town. Fortunately he wraps this angst in the kind of tuneful confections that make fast friends on one spin.” – Big Takeover Magazine\n \n“Dany Laj And the Looks are becoming a tour de force in the world of power-pop and old school rock’n’roll and deserve to be heard by a much wider audience.”  Louder Than War \n \n“Combine all of the best ingredients of Power Pop into a 60’s Blender in the Garage and press repeat.” – “Boris” Boden (aka The Secret Weapon on Woody Radio) \n \n“I’ve been on the Laj train since 2017 and am pleased to find many of my favorite tracks here such as “Sweet Pretender”\, “Mister Screaming Attitude”\, “Hold For Love”\, and the terrific 2018 single “Left To Right One”. I’ve also discovered a couple of old gems in “I Know You Want Out” and “Best Thing In Town” that have immediately ascended to my favorites list. While “power pop” broadly describes this band’s music\, I’ve always appreciated how Laj has never limited himself to a specific genre. He’s a singer/songwriter first and foremost\, and his songs reflect the influence of everything from punk to folk to indie rock to classic pop & rock and roll. There’s more than a little Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello in his musical DNA!” – Faster And Louder
