“Transition”: A concert of queer and trans Pride and Wrath with Emily Boyajian, Sister Species, and Kay Jay Olson.
A night of music entirely by queer and trans artists, culminating with “Transition,” a operatic medley about the joyous and the difficult parts of the transgender experience!
Emily Boyajian is a pianist and classical music composer living in Uptown, who uses her strong background in music theory to write music that is intellectually stimulating and emotionally captivating. Her song cycle “Transiton” explores the complexities of navigating transition and change, particularly gender transition and finding one’s true self in a gendered world.
Kay Jay Olson is a Minneapolis, MN based artist originally from Eau Claire, WI. Openly genderqueer, they are focused on bringing queer issues to light through music. Their music is an eclectic mix of indie alternative, musical theatre, with a shot of atmospheric choral and a bite of social justice.
2/3 of local interstellar space-pop trio Betazoid, Emily Kastrul (Sister Species) & Lisa Harrigan (Blue Tree Music Education) come together for musical storytelling, puppetry and the occasional big mood.
