EVENT DESCRIPTION
KFAI’s 46th Anniversary Community Celebration
w/ L.A. Buckner and BiG HOMiE, shrimp olympics, & America y Los Sentimientos
Our friends at KFAI Community Radio (90.3FM) turn 46 this year and we’re helping them celebrate by throwing a free party. The station went on the air in 1978 with studios located in Walker Church and has been the voice of the community ever since.
KFAI has curated an entertaining evening of music and fun for their birthday bash. The entire concert is being audio and video recorded. Simply sign up for your free tickets.
L.A. Buckner is a performing musician, teaching artist, and producer from the Northside of Minneapolis. He holds a master’s degree in Percussion Performance from McNally Smith College of Music. Currently, LA serves as co-host for the two-time Webby award-winning PBS music education YouTube series Sound Field. In August 2020, LA took iTunes by storm with the release of his project BiG HOMiE, which reached the #1 Jazz position within 24 hours of its release.
Get ready to experience a historic blend of jazz, Gospel, hip hop and avant-funk. Buckner’s compositions soar and sway, blurring the line between Sunday church service and face-melting jam sessions. His artistry is full of energy, excitement, and culture.
Shrimp Olympics is the home recording project of Austin Lombardo. On stage, he is backed by a four-piece live band. The music of Shrimp Olympics follows in the tradition of home-taping heroes like R Stevie Moore and Ween, with heavy jazz, country, and psychedelic pop elements. This is easily one of the tightest bands in the Twin Cities today.
America y Los Sentimientos is a collective of musical storytellers weaving tales of passion, joy, and the universal human experience. Their bilingual repertoire spans the spectrum of pop, rock, and cumbia. With a wide range of musical and cultural influences from members from Mexico, El Salvador, Wisconsin, and Texas, they create an energetic fusion that leaves an indelible mark on the ears and hearts of their listeners.
