“I’m modeling this new event with the very progressive, pre-WWII Wiemer-era German cabaret scene in mind” shares de Mars, “That was a time where identity-diversity was seen and appreciated as simply part of the then-social fabric, just before everything collapsed. With all the aggressive anti-trans legislation and rhetoric from the US Right unfolding now, especially after all the progress we made in my lifetime, it feels as if we’re now approaching a similar social precipice. I’d like us to celebrate that progress; who we are and how far we’ve come. Hopefully establishing a safe-place for us to simply be, no matter what possible changes might unfold.” – Venus De Mars
Der Blaue Engel – its title inspired by the nightclub in 1930s film staring Marlene Dietrich as Lola Lola – will make it’s debut appearance on Sept 7th at the Uptown VFW.
