Annie Humphrey 

w/ Jeremy Ylvisaker, Laura Hugo, & Aida Shahghasemi

 
Annie Humphrey lived most of her life on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation.  At age 23 she found her way off the Rez by enlisting in the United States Marine Corp.  She enlisted for many reasons…she is pro-homeland not pro-government.
Annie teaches her grandsons how to live with the Earth as her parents taught her.  She is the family sugarbush camp boss (a position appointed to her by her father) She nets walleye and cleans her own catch alongside her daughters.  She is a medicine gatherer and a wild rice harvester. Annie’s goal is to teach her grandsons to live without Walmart and Amazon.

Jeremy Ylvisaker is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, teacher, video artist who has worked with John Prine, Bon Iver, Grace Potter, Bruce Hornsby, Jenny Lewis, Andrew Bird, Sandra Bernhard, Damo Suzuki (Can), Anais Mitchell (Hadestown), Gaelynn Lea (MacBeth on Broadway), Prince’s original New Power Generation members in tribute after he passed, Mouse on Mars, Aida Shahghasemi, Swamp Dogg, Shahzad Ismaily, Eyedea, Merce Cunningham dance company, and many others playing in venues such as the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall and on television programs such as Late Night with David Letterman and The Colbert Report. He has put out 2 solo records as well several as a member of the group Alpha Consumer. For fun he makes even more art with his family and friends. 

 
Aida Shahghasemi is a Minneapolis based musician with roots in Iran. She studied Psychology and Anthropology at University of Minnesota with a focus on the cultural aspects of Persian Classical Music and the restrictions imposed on the voices of Iranian female vocalists. She received her Masters degree from New York University in Arts Politics where she also served as an adjunct instructor teaching a course she developed on arts activism in Iran. She has worked with a number of different Art and Social Advocacy groups in New York and Minnesota as a musician, graphic designer, and developer and has served as an Assistant Program Coordinator at Hamline University’s Making Waves Social Justice Theatre Troupe. She has been a touring member of Iron and Wine and Marketa Irglova’s band while also being a recording artist on two of Glen Hansard’s albums. Her three albums are “Wind Between the Horse’s Ears,” released in 2015, “Cypress of Abarkooh,” released in 2019 and “Chashmandaaze Rooydaad,” released in August of 2022. She is a McKnight Music Fellow and serves as an adjunct faculty in the MFA program at Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Aida is a mental health therapist at CAREFree counseling and works primarily with adults and couples dealing with trauma.

Laura Hugo is an Indigenous singer/songwriter from Teec Nos Pos, AZ located in the Navajo Nation. She moved to Minnesota in 2010 to pursue her music and has since played all over the Twin Cities and around the Midwest. She has used her experiences with grief, mental health and general confusion about her place in the world to write honest and relatable songs.
