EVENT DESCRIPTION

50 YEARS OF T-LA :: T La Shawn | Arvell Genius | Jada Brown | Mike The Martyr | Sole2dotz | Big Wiz

T-LaShawn grew up in south Minneapolis where he was known and respected by many of his peers. His style is a combination of Diamond D, ATCQ, De La Sol and Wu Tang Clan. He is an ambitious artist that pours his heart into every track he writes and records. He started his rap career in 1998, which opened many doors for him.

In 1998 he and his friends who shared similar ambitions formed a crew named Northern Darkness. They started doing shows locally and even opened up for Hieroglyphics. After spending 4 years together perfecting their craft, Northern Darkness disbanded and T-LaShawn went in a different direction.

In 2002, T-LaShawn released an album with another local artist who goes by Marrocco and named it “Ambush Killa’s” which launched his popularity in the Minneapolis area. They opened up shows for various artists such as A.G. Twista, Breed, Alcoholics, and Greg Nice. Morrocco and T-LaShawn then split to do their own solo projects in 2006.

In 2006 he had released his first solo album titled “Feelin Minnesota” under the label One Mic Productions. By that time he was already established and every known artist wanted to work with him. He started collaborating with various artists from the Twin Cities such as Big Wiz and Tony Bones who were the founders of Long Doe Records. The buzz he and his peers achieved had them performing with some of the best of their generation such as Tech 9, Busta Rhymes, Baby Bash, 2 Live Crew and Talib Kweli.

In the past 7 years he released and collaborated on 3 more albums with several artists in many parts of the Twin Cities. One of the albums was “The Lost Files E.P.” which he worked on with AbhiNav and One Mic Productions. The second album was “Anchormen Southside Action News” which he, Big Wiz and AquaFresh had collaborated. “The Book of T’La” was his third album which he had completed with Cherry Sky Studios, where he is doing a majority of his work.
