Join us as the Pistol Whippin’ Party Penguins return to the Hook & Ladder for their annual Yuletide Sweater Ball! Special guests Katey Bellville & The SOBs, Potluck String Band, and Frog In The Bogwill be joining in on the festivities. These four talented groups will keep the holiday party jumping throughout the evening.
Don’t let the name fool you! The Pistol Whippin’ Party Penguins are not a violent group of flightless aquatic birds looking for a party – rather they’re 5 self-proclaimed gentlemen with 2 guitars, a mandolin, a bucket of fiddles, an upright bass, a banjo, and 4-part vocal harmony, combining folk, rock, blues, bluegrass, and some fully-loaded stage banter. Their combination of folk, rock, blues, bluegrass, and stage banter creates an experience that everyone can enjoy!
With a nostalgic appreciation for old time tunes, Katey Bellville inevitably pines for traditional sounds while composing contemporary songs. Raised both in the rolling hills of the country on horseback and deep in the heart of the city of Minneapolis – she has always stirred a brew of reverse passions. Dedicated listeners describe her original songs as “unforgettable”, blending modern pop sensibilities with fundamental bluegrass instrumentation.
Potluck String Band are an organically grown band of festivarians that play in bluegrass festival campgrounds and numerous venues and events in the Midwest and Colorado. Jimbo Miller, a member of the band, explains the name, saying, “we started a ‘Friday Potluck’ at my house where people would bring a dish to share, a bottle or six-pack to share, and an instrument to play. There was no intention of forming a band, but once it came to be, it felt right to pay homage to the band’s origins.”
